pregnant and running

Quote  |  Reply
so i am newly pregnant and my dr said that i can continue to run 3miles 4x per week if i feel up to it. but as the day goes on and getting time for the gym, my energy is zapped, way more than it usually is. i still want to work out and burn calories b/c just b/c preggars not going to let self go but the thought of running sounds awful. is it ok to do elyptical as long as burn same amount as usually do on treadmill. i mean it does not matter what kind of cardio do as long as burn cals and get good work out right???

actually the elliptical is just as good; and for some is better it does the same thing as the treadmill but has less impact on the knees and ankles. if you dont feel like running tho, try swimming i work at a fitness center and i use to work at a pool. they offer really good water aerobics classes at almost any public pool ( that is alot of cardio right there... let me tell ya!) . just the the instructor know you are pregnant, that is if you can tell yet. that way if there is something you shoulndt do they can offer something different but just as good. but most definately the elliptical is just as good.
i feel the elliptical does not require as much extersion as treadmill so i dont feel as good but i will try it. sorry, i would love to do water aerobics but they dont have a pool at my gym. i does want to keep my pregnancy gain to healthy minimal and i just feel too tired to run.

You are pregnant. If you feel too tired to run, it's a sign that your body does not want you to anymore. Why fight it?
i am so used to pushy myself and do it that i feel i am slacking. i am only going to do what right for my baby now and keep me healthy too but i dont want to use it as excuse, but i am exhausted!
hey daisyg!  well congratulations!  i too am pregnant 18 weeks.  I started out running and than like you felt too tired to do anythign after work.  i have been slack for about a month or so now, so but i watch what i eat and have only gained about 7 pounds so far.  i keep telling myself today will be the day i get on the treadmill and walk at least, but that day has not comeyet.  maybe soon though!  anyway i think as long as you listen to your body you will be fine.  the elliptical should be fine to substitute instead of the treadmill.  and on days you just feel too pooped just relax and try again the next day.  your body is busy making another person so give it some slack and enjoy it!  best of luck to you!
congrats to you too!!!! i am very happy for you and me!! i will listen to my body. i think even before preggars i was burning out on running so now may be good time to try something else...

I can't believe people over 13 actually say "preggers" lol
Ypu body is so tired, cause u are in your frst trimester, always the most tired, make sure u are getting enough calories....when yoou are pregnant u need more food, food=energy..

your body wont get all messed up unless u are eating BAd foods, keep muching all day. give it a few weeks and u will be feeling much more energetic!!

I never gained more than 20 pounds with any of my pregnancys, until AFTER my third child, i got depressed, then fat, now i am here!!
Daisy - First and foremost, congratulations!!!  You are on your way to a very interesting journey . . .

Ditto with the other posts that suggest that you listen to your body -- Your body is defintely much different now that you're pregnant and it's rapidly undergoing a lot of hormonal and physiological changes.  You should, in no way feel, that you are slacking!  It's quite normal to feel exhausted, even in the first few months of pregnancy.  Gosh, for my first pregnancy, all I ever wanted to do is sleep *all the time*!

Congrats again, enjoy your pregnancy, and take good care of yourself and your baby =)
