Prenatal vitamin poll - what brand are you taking? Do you take DHA?
Spin off from another thread ... what prenatal vitamin are you taking? Do you take DHA also?
I am taking Prenate Elite. But because they are prescription they cost me a pretty penny.
I took generic prenatal vitamins with my son, they were about 10 bucks (Target brand) for a few months worth, vs. 150 dollars for the prescription ones. I never researched the difference but really couldn't afford the other ones. I had a good diet and took DHA (Expecta Lipil I think?). I also tried not to freak out about all the pregnancy stuff...even ate lunchmeat a couple of times :) My son is almost 2....gorgeous, incredibly healthy and extremely smart....best of luck to you!
I took the grocery store brand prenatal vitamins. My ob said they were just as good as the prescription, and to keep taking them since they didn't make me nauseous.
As for DHA, I got several Expecta Lipil samples. I asked my ob if I should be taking them throughout pregnancy, and he said it wasn't necessary. He said it was more important to take them while nursing. According to him, the baby would get more benefit when nursing than when in the womb. He explained the reasoning, but I'm sorry, I can't really remember what he said exactly. It's been too long since I had my baby. :)
hi, well make sure u take folic acid, confolic is a brand folic acid is shown to decrease the prevelence of cerebral palsy in babies
also keep your iron and vitamin b levels up, make sure you consult your pharmacist and tell him u are pregnant because most drugs perhaps not vitamins are not suitable especially in second/third trimester.
best ask your pharmacist and forget about consulting us lol
besta luck,

Yes, what I take is prescription, so don't worry, the doctor is in the loop. Just checking to see generally what everyone is taking!
I actually take Life Fitness. Its a double medication- one with prenatal vitamins, calcium, etc. and the other with DHA.
I take a generic brand too - my ob said it was just as good. I also take about 3 capsules of pharma-grade salmon oil (no PCBs or mercury), which works out to about 300 mg of DHA, and a calcium tablet daily. I took salmon oil and calcium before i got pregnant and my ob said continuing with them at those doses is fine.
I take 2 Chewable Flinstones Complete a day (2 meets all the requirements of pre-natals). Did for my first child and do the same for this one...doctor says it's a more than acceptable alternative to pre-natals, which made me feel like crap all day long.

Just got a 5 day starter pack of CitraNatal Assure. Comes with 300 mg DHA (plant based). I was taking store brand. I can't remember what I took with my son.
I take the generic store brand. There seems to be no difference. My doctor told me that he just wanted me taking a folic acid supplement and that it was my choice if I wanted to take vitamins.
