iv been making my own dinner for a few years now, i started eating healthily and my parents didnt want to eat it with me lol. however, offering to cook for everyone helps too. then you get to cook what you want to eat, know exactly what goes in it AND can eat it when you want it ready, if people arent home then they can warm it up. well, thats what we do in my house anywho. :)

I just told my mother that I didn't want her cooking for me anymore. LOL I wasn't that harsh, but she was always pretty supportive of me and told me it was fine. I got one of those small george foreman grills for meat and stuff, and I plan my meals out so at the beggining of the week I give her a list of what I'll need. I think if you make it clear you are doing this to fit it more with your scehdule aand lifestyle rather than telling her that what she;s doing isn't working for you.. it should be fine.

I started cooking my own meals when I became vegetarian. My family always eats meat in some form or another for supper, so they completely understood why I wanted to cook for myself. Not to mention I told them I was analyzing the nutrition of my meals, so I needed to have a hand in my own preparation.

I used to eat with them sometimes, because my mum would leave the meat out of a helping of the main dish. That was cool, but my tastes have turned upside-down since then, and I doubt if I'll be able to go back to my family's cooking, lol.

When I started eating on schedule, (before 8 p.m.) my family would laugh and accuse me of being loner. I learned to eat my food when I wanted, and eventually they left it alone. I still attempt to eat when they do, however, and they are usually complimentary. They make jokes about the vegan foods I eat, at times, but I take it with humor. I doubt they are trying to be mean. ^^

I suggest not telling your mum and just doing it. Maybe, if she asks, you could tell her the truth. Like,"I wanted to eat a little earlier fom now on," or "Eating earlier fits into my schedule better."

ooh, great post, so does anyone have any quick meal ideas that they like to make?  i hate cooking!

thanks!

I make pigs in a blanket with fat free hot dogs and reduced fat pillsbury cresent rolls. YuM!

I'll make bean/chicken enchiladas sometimes...

I get most of my recipes from Hungry-girl.com

thanks for the recipes!  i just hate cooking, the time and all, and live on sandwiches and cereal!? eek

I usually do too - but those foods get so tiring and once you find some quick/easy recipes, it gets really fun to make yummy localorie foods =)

eggs are the perfect dinner! mmm... you can microwave them with milk (more protein) with or without the yolks. you can add cheese, beans, veggies or turn it into a sandwich with a 100 calorie english muffin! I love how versatile eggs are! mmm... eggs whites are even good microwaved with canned pumpkin and splenda or with oats and cut up apple for a healthy dessert!

I've been making my own and my family dinners since I think I was around six, but that's a cultural thing really (being the last girl to live with the parents means being domestic pretty darn early). So, It's kind of expected I know how to cook. So, I guess you can say I've been cooking dinner for about 11 years now with few breaks between.

But anywho, Just tell your mom that you want to eat your dinners earlier, and that you feel too hungry to the point of being sick from waiting so long. I don't think your mom should be offended if you want to eat dinner at six (I read your other bulletin, 9 is TOO LATE to be eating, in my opinion, hahah)

If you want something easy to cook, try white fish and some steamed veggies (30 minutes in the oven @400 deg F for the fish, steaming veggies varies). Or BOCA or beans are good for protein if you're a vegetarian or vegan.

I wish you luck with your dinners :)
