How can I prevent acid reflux?
Asked by macky_miro on Feb 17, 2009 in Health Conditions

I get acid reflux due to my small diet.  I used to eat big, like 2 to 3 serving per meal,  but now, I eat almost less than 1 serving per meal.  How can I prevent reflux without medication?

Answer

Eating large meals, not small meals, triggers acid reflux because a full stomach increases the likelihood that food and acid will reflux into the esophagus.  Perhaps the problem is what you intake in-between meals.  Smoking and alcohol universally promote acid reflux, while carbonated beverages, peppermint, citrus juice, tomato, and chocolate may trigger symptoms in certain individuals.  For acid reflex, the recommended diet is small, frequent, regular meals.  Divide your calories into six small meals, eat every 2 to 3 hours, and eliminate the trigger substances from your intake.  If that doesn’t help, consult doctor for treatment.
