How can I prevent myself from binging and purging?

Quote  |  Reply

I'd been bulimic for the past four years or so. A couple months ago, right before I started my diet, I decided, "That's it. No more," and shed myself of the mentality that this was something I'd have to deal with and think about forever. My recovery (helped along with my new diet) has been going well overall, but the urge still comes back every once in a while. I'll have just eaten a light snack, won't be hungry, and start eying foods laying around the kitchen. Foods I don't even really like or want to eat. It's like I just want to get rid of it, rather than consume it, hence the old pattern of binging and purging.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to deal with these urges? I have enough self-discipline to suppress them, but like I said, I've had slip-ups and want to prevent them in the future.

I know ur struggle girly....  i have had issues with COE and Binging and purging... I havent done it since i joined this site in August.. My main thing is not buying anything sweet or any types of chips.. If i see it, I will eat it.. so i keep it out of my house period... also i try to express my emotions more, rather its in a blog or a journal, or a poem or talking.. or whatever.. and i try to keep my hands busy and my mind oppucied on something.. internet, reading, listening to music.. I even get up and dance to the radio...  another thing that has helped is... saving alot of my cals intil the night.. in the past i binge eat at night so i make sure i have at least 800 cals to eat.. and i pile my plate with alot of veggies and pig out.. lol...   i get the effect and i get full... hopefully some of this helps you out!!!  good luck

Thanks. I live with my family so what food is in the house isn't up to me, but my problem has never been self-control. It's more of a coping mechanism, because I tend to suppress my anger. You're right about expressing my emotions...I think that would help a lot.
