Privacy please

I've just realised that if I type my username into Google my CC profile is the first result. I am not ok with this! I have ticked the box which supposedly prevents my profile being indexed by search engines, so why is this happening?

How long ago did you tick the box?  if it was recently, it will take a while for it to fall off of google.

This is the internet-- nothing, not a single thing, is private on here, no matter how many boxes you check.  If you have information you would rather not be disclosed to your boss or your mother in law, delete it and be more circumspect in the future.

It's been ticked since I joined CC which was last April.

Send an email to customer service-- I just checked and it (your profile for your name) was the first response for me as well.

Edit: my list of forum topics came up second result (never seen that before) and my profile (with the box checked since the box checking was available, been here with an active profile since April 2006) is now the next result.  What is going on here?

OK so I screwed around with it for a sec-- if you log out, you cant see the profile when you go to it-- but you can see the list of topics and posts.  It does however tell you to go log in to Calorie Count or become a member so that you can see the profile.  I am not sure I dig this direct access to the profile.... hm.  I guess it  doesnt make that big of a deal but still.

right -- if you are logged into CC when you try to google and view the results, you will be able to see your profile, as will anyone else who is logged into CC and googling your profile.

However -- if you are not logged in, you will not be able to get there -- just the posts/threads.  If the "do not index" is clicked, you will not be able to view profile or journal entries.

As your profile is already visible to anyone already logged into CC -- there is really no change

I found this it about one month into my c-c membership and changed my user name.  Before I was using my real name.

If you goggle my name, not much comes up.  You get some crazy lady with a name somewhat like mine.  No one in real life knows my c-c name.

 If you want to change your username, send an email to ccsupport@about.com and give us your three favorite names, in order of preference.

Thanks, Sheila - I posted this in the Lounge when I realized I was asking a question in the wrong location.  I was told me the same thing there...only I didn't realize I should submit 3 names.  Going to email again...thanks!

I just tried it and found that there is someone who uses the same username as mine on a bunch of gun related sites.  If someone googles me, they are going to get the wrong impression!

OMG, wow!  It's funny...but at the same time, not funny!

This is very disconcerting, just applied to change my username.

I remember seeing the checkbox for no indexing, but now going back and looking to verify that it is checked, I can't find it! What tab is it under?

Go into your profile, click edit and scroll down to the bottom.  It is the last item.
