2008 Pro Tennis Season
Okay, so as my search on the forums for tennis only showed up topics about playing tennis, and not really much for those of you out there that may be fellow tennis fans and follow the pro game I thought I'd start a topic, just a place to discuss what's going on in pro tennis, the players, upcoming tournaments etc.
Personally I feel that it's potentially a really exciting year for mens pro-tennis since Nadal is closer to overtaking Federer (whose had so many set backs early this year) than ever before and Djokovic is in the running now too. Federer only have about an 1100 pt lead in the rankings at the moment (low for him ;) and it's clay court season, giving Nadal a bit of an edge. Roland Garros is coming up in a month, and Wimbledon a month after that both of which I feel will be exciting tournaments :)
So anyways if there's any fellow pro tennis fans out there, feel free to post :)
o.k. *bump*, any tennis fans out there?
I'm a Maria Sharapova fan myself.
I've been watching the French Open and it's definitely Nadal's year (once again.) But I'm keeping a close eye on Djokovic, if anyone is going to kick Federer off his pedestal, it's going to be him!
I've been listening to the french open on their radio station. not quite the same as watching the matches, but better than nothing. Federer's done his usual at the french, the semi w/Monfils should be good. I'm quite excited about the Nadal-Djokovic semi, as I see it as the only chance of Nadal getting knocked out of the running and seriously how great would a Djokovic-Federer final be!
I agree w/you about Djokovic knocking Federer off his pedestal. If he can avoid injury I think he can do it, he's more consistent on surfaces other than clay, and lets face it that's where Federer needs to be challenged. For some reason Nadal just can't seem to overcome Federer on a surface other than clay on a consistent basis, if he could then Nadal would have a shot at it too.
WIMBLEDON!!! Djokovic, Sharapova out already?!
Love tennis!!!
I like to make fun of Nadal quite a bit actually. He gets this mean looking sneer on his face when he's playing. An Elvis like lip thing going on. Like in the Nadal-Federer at finals in Paris a few weeks ago. He just looks so mean! Haha. I like Federer. He's got such control while playing. I have not seen Djokovic play this year but when I watched him last year, he just seemed cocky and easily frustrated so it doesn't surprise me he's out.
Is anyone else watching Ferrer/Ancic? This is some of the best tennis I've ever seen.
The television did a great job of switching between Safin/Seppi and Ferrer/Ancic, plus with the anxiety of the sun going down and the possibility that both matches would be suspended, it made for a very exciting evening at Wimbledon. I loved it!
Just have to say WOW! what a match between Federer and Nadal on Sunday! Epic! I couldn't even pull for one or the other because they both deserved it with the heart they showed on the court. That was an exciting match!
I can't believe how long the match went on!!! Between all those rain delays, I would've lost all my nerve playing. It was crazy long. I think they said it set a record for longest match in Wimbledon history. You're right ishipop, they both did awesome, even though I was biased towards Federer.
I woke up, watched tennis, left the house to grocery shop, came back and was still watching the same match. Haha. It was incredible!
It was UNBELIEVABLE. It is quite literally the best tennis match I've ever seen in my whole life. Particularly the last 2 sets. I was rooting for Nadal, but I'd love to see Federer come back and win the French Open next year. :)
