not a problem, just curious...

i keep hearing people say that they're never hungry upon waking up, and can stand to have really small breakfasts and become very hungry once night comes around.

am i the only one who's the other way around? or is there anything else?

like.. i couldn't imagine waking up and only eating a bowl of cereal or some fruit; my breakfast can range from 500-600 calories, and my cravings (i don't technically get hunger pangs except upon getting out of bed, so i wouldn't call it "hungry") decrease as the day goes on. come night, any cravings i would have had during the day are completely gone.

yet i always see that people eat a LOT of food at dinner, which i don't really understand.

anybody care to share? why is it that people get so hungry at night, and is anybody else a breakfast person like me?

Its easier to wake up and not feel hungry because after a certain amount of time your body stops sending the "im hungry" signal to your brain, which usually happens during sleep. So when people wake up, they usually aren't hungry.

This makes them hungrier at night!

I think the other big thing is that people are pretty much brainwashed dinner is supposed to be the biggest meal of the day. That and people get hungry towards night, have more free time, more time to think about food.

But you, fortunately, have the right idea!!! Keep eating that way, it helps you sleep better and be more energized during the day!

nope. I'm staaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarving in the morning.

oh, kankan that's weird; it's as though the only time i'm *actually* hungry is when i wake up.

though i do have a screwed up schedule, as my last meal is generally around 7-7:30, bedtime 3 am and breakfast around 12-12:30 pm. no clue if this has anything to do with it, although i was pretty much the same way during the school year.

(crap, i can't imagine how in just one week i'm going to have to switch to a 9:30 pm bedtime and wake up at 5:15 in the morning :x)

and revolution, i guess i'm not that weird then haha.

I'm always hungry in the morning and am rarely interested in dinner.

I think, because I detest being hungry, I kept switching things around until my body adjusted to this routine. For me, it's been very effective for weight loss to eat more in the morning and less at night. I endured some suffering until I got my tummy re-trained, but it has been well worth it.

You;re not on your own with this one, I love breakfast and pretty much wake up hungry.  I eat every morning within an hour of getting up otherwise I'd never get anythng done.

I don't have a massive breakfast but I do graze all morning, breakfast at 7am, snack at 9:30, small snack at 11:30, lunch at 1pm and that takes me to about 900 - 1000 calories consumed.  Then i'm ok until dinner at 6pm or a small snack before the gym and dinner at 7:30pm.

There's a very old saying.... 'Breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dine like a pauper'.  So you're not alone and, in fact, many dieticians would recommend that people eat a bigger breakfast than supper.  You need more energy at the start of the day than you do at the end.... makes a lot of sense.  It's largely down to lifestyles that a lot of people get into the bad habit of dashing out of the door in the morning with just a cup of coffee in their stomach.  People who routinely skip breakfast/lunch and then overdose on food in the evening are the ones most likely to be overweight statistically.

I get up quite early and like to start the day with a good-size breakfast.  Eggs are a favourite!  If I'm forced to skip or skimp on breakfast I feel rotten for the rest of the day.

i wake up ravenous and i am never hungry at night. i love breakfast!!!

i'm also a breakfas/morning appetite person.  i probably eat half my daily intake food before noon.

i'm not really hungry at night and i find eating a big meal makes it harder for me to sleep.  i do have to force myself to eat late snack at times, though.  lets say i have an early dinner at  4:00pm and i'm up working until 11:00pm or something and don't fall asleep until 1:00am , i will sometimes wake up too early, like at 5:00am from hunger and not be able to sleep again after breakfast.

oh yeah and social eating...people think that i eat like a bird when they want to go out for dinner at 7:00pm and i have no appetite.
then they are shocked to see how much i eat at breakfast and have to make some annoying remark...

I think it might be that your body gets used to a certain pattern and starts to expect that and give you signals accordingly.

I never used to eat breakfast.  I just didn't eat until 11am at the earliest.  That was lunch.  I was never hungry until then.

It's only in the past year that I've started eating breakfast.  Now, if I skip it, I'm ready to gnaw my arm off by 9:30.

I'm less hungry at dinner than I used to be.  It really didn't occur to me until now that that is probably because my body got more calories earlier in the day and doesn't need me to eat so much at dinner.

I LOVE BREAKFAST

by far the most delicious meal of the day... even though I usually eat the same thing everyday, I enjoy it so much and cannot stand the fact of not being able to eat my fruit and cereal in the morning... it's so routine now, that I feel "off" the rest of the day if I skip it for something new.

but its proven people who eat breakfast are generally thinner and more energetic than those who skip

eating breakfast is great for your metabolism, and eating a larger breakfast will keep you from overeating later in the day

if you get the majority of your calories early, it gives you the rest of the day to use them up!

I wake up ravenous.  If I do not have something to eat within maybe 30 minutes, I am going to be such a grump!  I cannot go without breakfast.  I have always been this way my entire life.

I love waking up hungry! It makes me feel great to have a bowl of fruit and a big cup of tea.

I'm always STARVING when I wake up! I guess it's because I usually eat dinner at 6 and stay up late/sleep-in, but even on school days at 6am I'm super hungry. Recently I've been making my breakfasts about 1000 calories, it's actually the only way I'm satisfied. Lol!

i notice when i wake up late (10 or 11), I am extremely ravenous and can just binge. On those days I usually eat a lot early on and very little towards night. However, when I wake up early, I tend not to be hungry all morning but binge at night. So basically it's like a no win situation for me.

i'm one of those hungry at night persons...

and i stick to it, even though most sources actually advocate eating more in the morning and less at night, mainly because i don't find eating most of my calories at night a problem for me (though granted, I don't usually eat within 2 hours of my sleeping time).

I sleep well, I don't take naps in the day (and i rarely get very sleepy)... I think ultimately it boils down to what one's body is most comfortable with? There's no reason why one method/eating pattern ought to apply for everyone. right? (:

I agree. :) My body is all over the place - sometimes more hungry during the morning/day, sometimes at night. It all balances out.
