Problem: why is it that some database items don't allow you to log amounts outside of a serving?

Is there any reason for it? I don't understand why it only applies to certain items. It makes some entries basically worthless. For example ... http://caloriecount.about.com/calories-alpro- soya-peach-calcium-i125197. A pot of that yoghurt is 125g, but on here the info is standardised to 100g and the only options are 100g, 200g or 300g - and who eats 4/5 of a little yoghurt?! Thanks.

Because that's how the manufacturer presented the data.  You can copy down the information, do the math to correct the serving size, and enter it as a custom item using the Add it here form in your food log.  That's awkward, I know, but it's the only work around solution for now.

I would love to see a solution to that problem.  It's crazy, but sometimes I find myself eating more or less of something than I want to, just so I can log it into CC.  That sort of defeats the purpose, no?

Even if that's how it came from the manufacturer, why couldn't the entry be altered from a drop-down to a free-number field, where you exter "x" servings? So that in OP's example, you could enter |1.25| Serving

I believe this problem is being addressed, but with such a large database it's going to take time.  You can help by looking for the "report bad grade" link.  Click on that and describe the problem.  Or, click on the contact us link at the very bottom of the page and send a link to the problem item.  A good number of them have been converted.

Personally I don't encounter this too much because I cook nearly everything from scratch using fresh ingredients.  It's mostly packaged, processed foods that are like that.  I realize that not everyone has the kind of time that I do in the kitchen. 

Thanks for the interest! Good to know I'm not the only one. I was just curious, really. I don't get why certain items don't have an 'other' option while almost everything does.

I mostly cook from scratch as well (not yoghurt, though! 1) I have no idea how to go about making soya ones, 2) brings back baaaad memories of this lumpy stuff my mum used to bring out of the airing cupboard in a huge mixing bowl when I was little, haha), but I've still seen it a number of times.

This (http://caloriecount.about.com/calories-alpro- soya-provamel-i77011) is by the same manufac and essentially the same as the product, just the continental Europe version or something and in a different flavour ... but has a 'pot' as an option. I guess that solves it for me this time!
