Weight Loss
Moderators: duke3522, devilish_patsy, topanga1485, nycgirl, spoiled_candy, cmillington, coach_k Okay, i have a problem reaching 1200 cals......
I've been on this website for about 3 weeks. i have lost maybe 2 pounds and quite a few inches (from working out). i have been doing cardio, weights, and logging everything i eat. when i started, i was able to eat anywhere from 1200-1500 a day.
i'm 5 feet, and currently around 118 (scale is deceiving), female age 38.
for the last week, i have only been able to eat about 1000-1100 maybe 1200. i drinks lots of water, cut out all junk food and just have been eating as healthy as the grocery bill can manage.
however, like today, i have only reached 800 cals. i am not hungry, but this has been a few days like this. i'm actually stuffed! my normal cal exp is 1494. not much huh? and i set myself at sedentary, because i don't have an exact regular routine. this week i kept pretty busy exercising, but today, i did absolutely nothing, but hang out at home and a little cleaning.
what gives? how can i reach at least 1200 is on most days, i'm stuffed? on the days i really work out i am actually a little hungrier, but today, not hungry......
thanks

Less than 1200 calories a day is what sends your body into starvation mode and makes the body hold onto fat. Consider a protein smoothie for breakfast. Are you eating every 3 hours or so?
yes, i am eating every 3 hours, just haven't had anything in the house lately (that's sounds good). i guess, what i should say, is i don't have an appetite. should i just have about 4 big spoonfuls of peanut butter, log it and forget about for tonite at least?
What on earth are you eating that both makes you full and gives you a total less than 800 cal per day? Add an apple in between meals. Add a light yogurt before bed (calcium helps us lose weight). There's approx 200 more calories. Have a breakfast shake with light almond milk, a banana, ice cubes, a light yogurt and 1/4 cup of unsweetened frozen fruit. That's about 300 calories +/-
But svengteach is right; too few calories and your metabolism shuts down.

thank you for your replies. i'm just having one of those,"nothing sounds good right now" days (or week). it doesn't take much to fill me up. actually, i've had today:
coffee, creamer, cheese, tortilla, fat free refried beans, asparagus, jello fat free sugar free, milk, water (lots), butter, umm........., lots of bread (wheat), deli slices (ham)
just not regular meals. i have a hard time eating just meals, so i eat throughout the day (snacks).

Nothin' wrong with eating snacks all day rather than meals. I never eat regular meals.
thanks for understanding. my husband is on WW (but he's 6feet3 and weighs about 300), so needless to say, without another trip to the market, our meals haven't been meals. he eats, i snack. lucky him huh?
i get too full :(

On days when you're having trouble getting all your cals in, those are the days you want to eat more calorie-dense foods -- like that peanut butter you mentioned. I WISH I had your problem -- I'm never not in the mood to eat -- I just don't do it, however. I mean, I stop myself so I don't go overboard.
i think it takes a while to adjust to the more regular meals/snacks. you will adapt. in the meantime, yeah, peanut butter, raw nuts and seeds, protein bars (they're filling - i can never eat more than 1/3 - 1/2).
this calorie-counting thing can become a preoccupation, sweetie. don't let it run your life!

A lot of people have this problem. Eat nuts, or nut products. Mix granola with yogurt. Or grate an apple (I know it sounds wierd) and then mix some granola in that. Trust me, you will love it, and it's much better than just eating an apple. That is my snack or breakast everyday. Or mix flax seeds into your food. Little things like that.
