Professional Moms... let's group together!
I have other groups online with working Moms... they help me find cool things to do with our 4 year old... help me keep up with my scrapbooking. But I would love to get into a group of other mothers that also work full time outside of the home... and are trying to lose weight.
I respect SAHMs... but it's a different perspective to have to pack lunches, work a full day, make dinners on the go and find time to work out as well.
Here's a bit about me... and hopefully there will be other professional Moms wanting to team up to get rid of some extra weight!
33, 5'5", CW 168; GW 145. Married x6.5 years; we have a 4 year old daughter. I work in healthcare 5 days a week (8-6 M-Th; 8-12 on Fri).
31, 5'8", CW 180; GW 150.
Married. 1 son (almost 3) and seriously thinking about adding another.
I get up at 5:30am and travel into work via public transit. I am in the office from 7:30am-5:30pm Monday-Friday. My husband is a SAHD.
Find it very hard to eat 2 meals a day at work and be good (hard to not snack when you are at your desk for 10 hours a day) and then go home and eat with the family.
I just booked a personal trainer - which I have to show up at 6:45am to do so I can get into the office at a reasonable time. I had to ask my boss for permission to be 'late to work' 2x a week so I could fit time in for the gym.
I am starting fresh from today - trying to eat 'healthy'. I am the first person to order takeout or put my feet up with a glass of wine and bag of chips when my son goes to bed.
Looking for any advice/motivation! Good luck ladies.....
an activity challenge... great idea spook!
I've been busy decorating our dd's bedroom (lots of roller and hand painting). I've got to get into an exercise routine... but am going to opt out of this challenge.
I'm on vacation this week--
and although we should get a bit of walking/swimming in-- and I'm going to TRY and keep my calories within my limit-- i'm not going to be around to post/comment.
Good luck to all-- hope people stick with their challenges!!
I am back. My trip was awesome! We went camping in the NC mountains for a week. Talk about beautiful and relaxing. You all would be proud of me are you ready....? I worked out at my campsite everyday for over an hour each day. Yup, I brought my weights, mate, laptop and tapes. It was a little challenging with the ruff terrain, but I did it anyway. I also swam and hiked everyday. Yah, I did not loose anything, however, I did not gain either.
I did ok on eating,
Coppertop - Yah, you are almost done with your second job. Did you say you do weight watchers? What do you think of it?
Sue Glad to hear your knee is getting better.
Carolyn Solar cooker, you have to give me the details. I am not sure I told anyone what I do. I work at a school as the network admin/hardware admin, basically a technology geek. Your solar cooker sounds right up my alley. We also live in mega hot land and my kids would totally love this.
&nb sp; So is your challenge supposed to be on top of what we already do or just do something? I accept either way.
Nursewratchet That makes me laugh every time I read it. Anyway, I know what you mean I start out great in the am and then by dinner I blow it. UG So the question is if you eat peanut M&M's is it all bad, peanuts are good for you right? Haha
Welcome to the group. I also have a three year old son. He is such a blast. Always keeps us on our toes. I love the way he runs around and pretends to be one of the super heros.
During the school year I am up around 5:45am. It is tough; however, if I do not get up that early then I do not get my workout in. Sounds like you have a long day. I worked at a desk for those hours a few years ago, I found it very tedious. I now work at a school and I am on my feet most of the day.
What is SAHD?
I know what you mean about snacking during the day. When I would go by peoples desk with say a candy jar, before I knew it that candy was in my mouth. I also found that in an office people always bring things in to share brownies, cookies. I always had to try. Of course there was always the vending machine with oh so health snacks, definitely a constant temptation. I finally avoided the break room by packing my own cooler with fruit, veggies etc. so I did not have to go in for anything. I also chew gum. I know, not very lady like but it definitely helped from putting other goodies in my mouth.
Personal Trainer awesome please share the tips you receive.
How did your day go yesterday?
I always start strong, breakfast healthy so far today. One of the workout tapes I use is Yourself!Fitness and they have a menu plan. I am strong with my workouts now so I am going to try to stick by the menu they recommend. I am 5.2 so I am going to try the 1300 menu today and see how I do. If you are interested in learning more go to: yourselffitness.com. Maya is an animated personal trainer. With Yourself!Fitness you will be in a one-on-one training situation with Maya. Maya will respond to your needs and guide you through your workout giving you step-by-step coaching from warm-up to cool-down. - From their site.
Good luck today!! Bran :-)
Stay at home Dad. :)
Personal trainer and nutritionist are both tomorrow. I will come back and report on both!
Thanks for the reply
Branblow-
I think Peanut M&M's should count for sure!!! Hahahahaha!
My week has been so chaotic that I cannot seem to get to the gym! I am running so many errands and doind so much that I am still going at 12am and have missed my gym time! I am hoping that things slow down enough that I will be able to get to the gym this weekend and next week. So needless to say, I have not met my goal this week.
First day with the personal trainer today - it was GREAT! Boy I sure do love working out when I'm there... I find the hardest part is getting me thru the doors.
We did 15mins on the eliptical cross trainer - intervals.
We did 15mins on the treadmill - walking up hill - increasing incline & speed.
Then 30mins various circuit weights.
Came in and had my cereal with raspberries and blueberries and a cup of black coffee.
I'm off to Paris for the weekend with my husband (no kid!!!) - lets just hope I can stick to the calorie count and be good... I'm down 1lb in 3 days and really want to commit to being good this month.
:)
Niccimax~ If you can go to Paris and still eat healthy and not over do it.... then I give you an award!!! :) That's will power!! I would surely fail!! ha ha
Branblow~ I don't do weight watchers... I just noticed on the can of my new favorite soup that weight watchers gave it a zero! Which means it can't be that bad!! ANd it tastes wonderful! It was progresso light. I tried the chicken noodle one.
Challenge~ I went for a 30 min. bike ride on Monday. I played on the skier/wanna be elliptical thing my mom has for about ten minutes twice in one day. And I have at least one left. The bike is my favorite... but I can't seem to get to town to but a new seat... the one I have is EVIL! I have tonight and then one more night of the wonderful night shift... then I can actually eat and sleep N O R M A L again! Althought I"m not sure I remember what normal is!! :)
Sometimes when I run errands I do butt squeezes and ab squeezes in the car and while I am in line. Also when I am standing in line somewhere I will do side leg lifts. Oh and I park the furthest away so I get some walking in. I also have a hip hop Abs tape that is only 5 minutes and then I have 15 minute workout DVDs by Tamilee Webb. At least it is something.
Well, hang in there we all have those weeks.
Niccimax - Paris, you lucky lady!! How exciting. I agree with Coppertop if I went to Paris it would be really hard to eat healthy and not over do it. In fact, I would say do not stress about it. I mean how many times do you get to go to Paris? Enjoy yourself; if you gain a lb it will be worth it.
Good for you on the personal trainer!! I bet you felt great!! How was the nutritionist? What sort of tips did they give you?
Coppertop The soup sounds good I will have to try that. Back to normal sounds awesome to me!!!
Challenge I have worked out a total of 1.5 hours each day this week. This has been my breakdown:
15 min. sit-ups
15 min. Legs, buns, or arms
30 min. Yourself fitness - changes daily flexibility, core body etc. today was cardio
30 min. Hip hop abs everyday is a different cardio, total body etc. today was ab sculpt.
Ok hubby wants me to focus on the house, we are in the middle of redoing our kitchen, bathroom and we leave for Mexico on Monday. Talk you all later.
Bran
And I am noticing that you all get to travel to cool places!!! I'm jealous! ha ha I get to travel for 10 days, but we are not leaving Alaska. We are just driving the AK Highway and going to see friends along the way!
I have on more 20 min challenge left this week! And I will be done working my last night shift any minute now! As soon as my relief walks in the door! Plus the sun is out... Ahhhh today is a good day!! :) Hope you all have a great weekend!!
Copper- I too agree with bran that Alaska does sound beautiful and lately, the the 90's - 100's heat we've been having in the southwest-- I'd love a chance to be on a train in Alaska.
Nicci-- Paris-- wow! I'd love to go to the museums there... dh though would rather go to russia! UGH! I too would love information you could pass from the nutritionist. :)
Bran-- welcome back. Good to see you here... thanks for the information about yourselffitness.com. I'll check it out.
Nurse-- hang in there. Get in 15 minutes here and there and it will add up. :)
Our trip to NM was fine. 4 1/2 drive through deserty/mountaineous country to Albuquerque. Swam 2x in the hotel pool, walked around a zoo/aquarium x5 hours, rode a camel, ate at a brazillian bbq and came back. Fun family time... although I am feeling after a week home with dh that I could use some girl time. Planning a trip to the movies tomorrow with 2 gals from work and my dd to see Wall-E. Should be fun. Dh to go to a bar to watch UFC fights with friends. I often go along, but am looking for a little space... so made movie plans.
I'm back and ready to be concious of what I'm eating again... have held my weight even at 165 (5'5") Doing ok today so far... but have a bbq set for this afternoon and I'm bringing frosted cupcakes and a salad (cupcakes-- Ugh! It was a request-- going to try and only have a 1/2 of one and keep the other junk out of my system... and that's why I need to bring a salad. Wish me luck!)
Happy 4th all... take care..
I ate H O R R I B L E yesterday! But I'm back on track today!!!
I couldn't resist the cotton candy at the parade, and pizza for dinner! ha ha Plus some popcorn at the movies and a few nachos! Ugggg It was bad. A banana is the only good food that passed through my mouth!
Now I need to get some exercise in. I'm working 4pm til midnight tonight and then tomorrow off. So... I'm ready to grab the kids and get outside tomorrow! It's raining now... but I hope it clears up tomorrow!! If not.... my rain gear and I will be on our own! ha ha
I forgot to mention.... I got my coffee problem under control finally!! ha ha No more liquid caramel vanilla creamer and no more white sugar!
I got the splenda flavors for coffee, the powdered caramel vanilla creamer and some sugar in the raw.
So one packet of splenda and just a pinch of the raw sugar and then 2.5 tsp (a serving is 4 tsp) of the powdered creamer. I cut so many calories off and I love it! I had three cups this morning just to celebrate! ha ha
And cold green tea at work with a little honey is my new thing :) Green tea is supposed to help metabolism and I like it so why not! I put three tea bags in my 24 oz. water bottle and let it sit in the fridge for a couple of hours and add a tbls of honey right before I head off to work. It lasts me several hours and then I switch back to plain ole water. I'm happy I fixed the coffee part though!
A quick hello and goodbye. I am off to Mexico tomorrow and will not be home for 17 days!! Yah I am so excited.
Well, I majorly failed this weekend. I went to a 4th picnic starving and all that was out was chips and wings. Around 7:00pm pasta salads and burgers where served and then brownies and cookies. Watermelon was the only thing healthy at the party.
Oh and then on the 5th we went to our friends. Each couple was asked to bring a dish to share. Well, when the individuals that are cooking are all gourmet chefs, you eat like a king. We had crab cakes with a lime butter sauce, broccoli and cheese stuffed bread, seafood chowder, grilled salmon, buchetta with goat cheese, mushrooms in a butter garlic sauce, a mixed berry tart and lots of wine. Oh and some increadible ice cream shot. Oh my gosh, I thought I was going to pop. I decided not to get on the scale.
Take care everyone, I will try and touch base once in awhile however, I am not sure home much I will have internet access.
Morning everyone!
Back from Paris... and I have to say I did alright. I stepped on the scale this morning and only put on 0.5lbs... which I'm ok with. I certainly didn't indulge while I was there - I think most of my calories came from the alcohol. I tried to pick healthy options and not eat carbs after 7pm. Wasn't easy.
Back on track this week... was all set to try to get up at 5am and run before my shower but it was POURING rain out. I chose the extra 30mins sleep (naughty me).
Personal trainer tomorrow.
As for the nutritionist - she gave me a list of foods in 3 categories. She used some interesting analogies to help me explain how the body works and how you have to fuel it.
Breakfast - something high in fibre (ideally within 1 hour of walking up)... while that won't work for me I will eat it as soon as I get into the office.
Snack - 2 hard boiled egss - or some veggies.
Lunch - 1/2 sandwich (no mayo) and a salad. or Pita and hummos.
Snack - Piece of fruit, protein shake/bar
Dinner - Protein & Veggies.
Drink lots of water - cut out the sugars.
Seems easy enough. I'm a major carb junkie so its going to be very hard to not have pastas and sandwiches for dinner.
:)
Have any of you checked out the library on CC? I read through it yesterday and decided to cut back as far as I could on carbs and sugars. So seeing Niccimax's post just encouraged that even more.
I completed the three challenges!! And I'm so stiff and sore! Hubby wanted to go to the gym so I jumped at the chance. I have never ever sweated so much! After my warm up I jumped on the scale (same one I always use) knowing that since it's said 191 for the last 6 months it was going to say the same thing right.... WRONG down to 189! ha ha So that pumped my workout and I was actually counting between my sets to make sure I never took more than 60 seconds off and then pushed through my weight training even harder! I have never pushed down so hard on the elliptical to make it move! Did I mention that I was pouring with sweat? ha ha So eating very well yesterday, then my workout... and eating good today with a walk planned for the evening... my motivation has returned because of Ciosa starting it and all of you wonderful ladies contributing to it!!! So thank you all!!! Any new idea's for the next challenge???
Coppertop ~ your post about working out is GREAT! God I can't wait to feel that way about working out.
What kind of challenges have you guys been doing?
I'm doing really good on the eating thing today - its 9pm and I have had 1424 calories today. I feel good. I wish wish wish it was this easy every day. I feel like I have eaten 1/3 of what I want - but I feel satisfied and I guess thats half the battle is teaching me that I don't have to gorge myself.
Back with the personal trainer tomorrow. Hope he isn't too hard on me. LOL.
