I wish I could put this in a big scrolling font, frame it, and put it on my living room wall. Awesome

If I were you, I would print out the food calorie charts you can find online (goggle food calorie charts for fruits, veggies, meats, etc). You will have like 6 plus pieces of paper but at least you'll know you always have a way to find calories. You can print them off at school so she'll definitely never know. Do this with exercise amounts too, like charts on how much per hour for running, walking, etc.

Write down your foods in a food journal. Since you'll already have the calorie counts printed off there's no need to use the computer. Hide your journal though or else she'll take it!!

She's jealous. Probably thinking something sad and shallow like "what if XXXX gets hotter than me?" Sad.... it's a shame she isn't happy for you and encouraging, especially considering how old she is

Is this going to be a group? I definitely need a BIG loss group to be in so I hope so!!!

I have lost 60 lbs so far but I still need to lose about 70 or so. So does this count? Overall it will be around 125-130 pounds of weight lost.

I try to eat mainly whole foods and get daily exercise of some kind. Lately I have been very lazy.

I have been the same weight (about 222) for a year and it is time to kick it back into gear and lose the rest.

So yay group!

When I know I'm going to be in this sort of situation, I bring a big fruit or veggie (or both) tray so I have something I can eat without having to be constantly tallying in my head. Also it doesn't look strange because it looks like you are just bringing stuff to share with everyone else, so it doesn't draw attention to the fact they you can't eat anything but what you brought. If they ask why you brought something to the party when no one else did (if this is the case) say "Oh I just thought we were all bringing stuff."

It works really really well and has saved my butt a million times.

Weight Gain Fear of Being Too Skinny Nov 26 2012

There are a lot more women and men out there with this phobia. The media works everyone up into thinking "any fat is bad" but doesn't cover the "too skinny but can't do anything about it" area at all. I know a couple women and a man who all loathe the fact that no matter how hard they try, even if they stuff themselves with lots of healthy fats and whole foods, they only will gain maybe a pound or two after 3-4 weeks then must continue to eat that amount in order to keep those 1 or 2 pounds on. Eventually they all have given up and try to accept their body as it is but when women are "supposed" to have killer curves and men aren't "supposed" to be thin and lanky it is hard for these people to love themselves for how they are.

Be aware you are NOT alone

Health & Support Night Eating Nov 26 2012

I have sorta similar stats (5'9 218) and I eat at least 2200 cal when I exercise.

Also I eat quite often right before I go to bed. It's not a crime. In fact I still lose weight.

Just factor your nightly eating into  your calories. I know some people on here just factor it in for that day (as in you eat 500 cal at 3am so you have 500 less to eat the rest of that day from 3am on til midnight). That way it's not some horrible crime.

Remember that when you exercise a decent amount, like +45 min with good heart pumping cardio, if you eat extra some days (over your calorie-to-lose limit) you're just basically maintaining anyway.

I burn +3200 with exercise each day. I bet you burn more since you're taller and weigh a bit more. 3200 is a lot of freaking calories

I'm Mexican. Thanks

I guess I should say some sort of pissed off comment in response but I guess this reply doesn't really bother me.

I would like to point out that translating expressions from English to Spanish is harder than one would think. Rabbit food? I would get a lot of blank stares and strange looks even after explaining it

Fitness Moms, notice that the fat is gone, but the stretched skin is still there??? Nov 26 2012

Don't worry, Moms aren't the only one with this problem.

I ate myself almost to oblivion and to almost 300 lbs

Now that I've lost a good deal of weight, I am resigned to having extra skin not just on my stomach but on my arms, legs, and breasts.

At least you have kids to show for it

This past summer I jogged two miles without stopping for the first time in my life. There is no feeling to compare with how awesome I felt when I was done.

I would guesstimate I ran about 12 mins a mile. And it was awesome

Fitness too much cardio? Nov 26 2012

I love cardio! And so does my body! Because of the cardio amounts I do (generally an hour - 2 hrs a day) I have a very strong back, legs, and arms. Nothing bulky but strong.

Also doing a lot of cardio is great because you will burn a ton of calories so you don't have to eat that low of a calorie amount to lose weight. When I do an hour of cardio a day I burn at LEAST 3200 cals. Some days it's 3500 or even more if I do a walk AND the gym. I can eat 2500 and lose 2 lbs a week. It is insane and makes my body and mind so happy.

Just make sure you get enough protein!!!

I always swim with I head above the water and here are things I do:

The little paddle board thing (as in rest your arms on it while kicking your legs)

Water jogging (in place or down til you can't touch then back)

Dips (a little like fancy dog paddling... basically the frog thing with your head out of the water)

Back strokes (on your back, arms and legs. Like a breast stroke but on your back. watch out because you might be like me and crash into things sometimes)

I have bad allergies and if the I get the chlorine in my eyes or nose I'm toast. Like a snot monster with red eyes

At work I eat "rabbit food" as my coworkers say and my boy friend calls everything in the fridge "hippie food" I just say whatever, I like it and it tastes damn good!

Oh my gosh that is so **** funny!!!!

Everyone at my work does the same thing! Except they are all Mexican so they say "Hey are you on a diet?" As I eat this awesome romaine, spinach, tomatoes, cucumber, avocado, green pepper, onion, ham, and mustard wrap. They think I am dieting because I eat fruits and vegetables.

And that is so awesome that your boyfriend says it's hippie food!! What the heck does HE eat? Do you can it "ball o' lard and constipation food"?

Weight Loss Do you think someone can have an oversized stomach and vice versa? Nov 26 2012

I think your problem doesn't sound physical but more mental. Are you at a healthy weight? Do you think about food too much? If you are struggling with food you may want to consider seeing a therapist/counselur (sp?).

For the a lot of people losing weight or maintaining is as simple as making healthier choices, watching what they eat, and exercising or adding more exercise. But for some people (such as myself) losing weight is also about breaking addictions and mental patterns so you can free yourself from the grip food has on you.

Your friend may be skinny for many reasons. She may exercise a ton. She may just not have a big appetite. She may have an eating disorder. But whatever it is, she isn't you. She's probably taller/shorter, older/younger, different body type, there are a million things which make every person eat different amounts. She may be embarrassed to eat in front of people. There are a million things. Why does it matter? If you are jealous, accept that you will never be her and move on to improving your own health (which will always improve your looks).

Weight Loss Looking to lose 20-30lbs by Spring? Nov 26 2012

This group sounds great!

I am about 218 right now and I would love to lose 30 lbs by Spring though I'd be happy with 10 or 20. I'm 5'9 and 25 yrs

I eat whole foods, exercise, and count calories. I initially lost about 60lbs and have been maintaining forever (like at least a year). I would like to see more loss so this means being more committed to going to the gym regularly instead of randomly going for two days then not going again for two weeks.

I know as long as I go to the gym +5  days a week I will lose because I burn 3200 or more on gym days and it is almost impossible for me to eat that much in whole foods.

I am getting married in July so it would be nice to see 30lbs gone by then, although I would welcome more.

Weight Loss what are your hip measurements? and what size pants do you wear? Nov 26 2012

Hips 45

Waist 38

If I go to a plus area the 14's are usually too big, if I go to the misses the 16 are too big but the 14's too small.

It's my thighs that are the problem. I have big thighs but not big hips so pants don't agree with me too often. Usually I have to settle with pants that fit my legs well but need a belt on the waist.

I'm 5'9 about 220 or so. Lots of muscle in my legs, although I'm sure there's fat too

Make sure you are making a long-term lifestyle change. Anything besides that (as in fad diets, starving yourself, etc.) is NOT going to work. Whole foods and exercise. It doesn't get much simpler than that. I think using calorie count, eatings whole foods, and exercising is really all a person needs.

Be aware that you may have an addiction. It SUPER important get help for that. Like really important you can't do it without counseling important.

Feel free to e-mail me. I have lost about 60 and still have about 70 to go. I battled some addiction myself and my sister has an eating disorder so I suppose I would know more than some people about sneak eating, eating emotions, thinking about food all the damn time, making food a priority, etc. Been there done that. Still struggling but it is WAY WAY WAY better now

I can guarantee that you will lose by counting calories, eating mainly whole foods, and exercising regularly.

That's how everyone on this site loses weight and, if they watch themselves, how they keep it of as well. It's how I lost 60lbs and am still losing. And I get to eat A LOT

I think that you should just up your workouts and eat no less than 1800 if you're doing MINIMUM 45 min of working out. It's easier for me to exercise more instead of cutting out calories. Also if you workout hard (elliptical, running, swimming) for an hour every day you will lose even if you are eating 2000.

If you cut more calories AND exercise more that doesn't make sense. Your body will (or already has) say "screw that I'm holding on to it all cause there's some starving going on."

Also pay attention to measurements. You can easily weigh the same as you did six months ago but have WAY better measurements.

It's a good indicator you're not eating enough if you want to binge. Actually, it's a HUGE indicator.

*NOTE* I plugged your stats in and you are burning +2600 if you workout every day. That is likely on the low side. If you continue to eating only 1500 I promise you will just be stuck in the same cycle. You literally can up your calories and you will lose. I'm jealous
