Young Calorie Counters Diet Support; Needed or No? Jul 08 2012

Meh, ditch the support. I do my thing. I found that support came and went from people. I had to learn to do it alone. Take the lead. Some of your friends will follow. Few will stick it out. Out of those who do, some will have life events that will remove their support. Like having to move out, or getting in a serious relationship.

My sources of support in order:

1) My own conversations with myself; Go at a slow pace. Keep learning how eat healthy and exercise right. Make a plan. Follow it. Trial and error. Repeat.

2) CC community;

3) Good music.

Enjoy.

Fitness how to increase strength Jun 30 2012

Do what you can, follow the video at your own pace. Don't stress over results. Just do the 30 days however you know how. It takes lots of trial and error to improve. This is a marathon, not a sprint. Let the goal be completing the 30 days one way or another.

Find a way that is appropriate to your strength level and cardio. Ramp down when following a video. Example, push ups can be done on the knees or on a counter. Weight, you can lift a smaller weight. If skipping rope or jumping jacks, you can go at a slower pace. For pull ups, you can do chin ups instead. Or you can do negative chin ups for starters.

Trial and error.

1. Focus on a small change you know you can handle and won't over burden you. But, maintain it everyday for the next two weeks. Focus on one thing at a time. Example, bike 3 km. Do it everyday. For the next two weeks.

2. Develop a weekly exercise plan, and log your actual exercise. Make it as simple as possible so you know it won't over burden you. The hardest part for me was over coming the mind.

3. Educate yourself on proper nutrition and exercise, and slowly improve your plan. My favourite resource is www.scoobysworkshop.com.

For me it was baby steps all the way. I believe in NOT pushing myself. Instead, take baby steps I know I can handle. Just make sure to maintain the new change and not drop it. If you can maintain it for two weeks, it becomes natural.

My latest project was cycling. Picked it up 7 weeks ago. Initially only did 3 km per day. Slowly worked it up to 40 km per day. Lots of trial and error. The cycle of failure and success is rewarding and addictive.

My weight stayed the same. 66kg. But I realized it's a good number I want to keep. My chin up goal was 7 chin ups. I reached 9 last Wednesday. Good challenge everyone.

The trap is that sugar is addictive; the more you have, the more the body craves. Nutella, definitely needs to fall under the 'portion control' section of a diet.

When i first signed up for kickboxing, i failed to follow along. I was much much slower than every one else. it was a disappointment every time I went. But I made one simple rule: show up, but follow at my own pace. That was 7 months ago.

Perhaps boot camps is too much. Perhaps something only a few times per week is better to start with. Perhaps you can finish bootcamp, but drop something else from your schedule. You do need the energy to stay motivated.

I'm a strong believer in NOT pushing yourself. Instead, take baby steps all the way. Drop the expectations and time pressure from your head. As long as you move in the right direction with a good plan, you will end somewhere better than where you started. Good luck!

First, figure out the daily calorie intake you need. I use this calculator: http://scoobysworkshop.com/calorie-calculator /

Split your meals to 5 or 6 per day. Drink water. Sleep. And, of course, plan your workout routine.

And a video on losing weight on gaining muscle:

Weight Loss Am I working out too much? Jun 15 2012

It's great you started on this journey. In my opinion, you are doing too much. Too much cardio, not enough resistance, and not enough food.

You have to lose weight gradually in order to maintain the muscle; muscles are important for weight loss. You will feel exhausted, which can be a huge mental deterrent.

What worked for me is in this video:

what worked for me to get me started.

- simple substitutions. for example abandon pop for fresh juice or water or tea. abandon french fries for salad.

- simple exercise. 10 minutes of cardio. 10 minutes muscle. (muscle is important for weight loss.

- sleep at least 6 hours. and drink 8 glasses of water.

- count calories as best as you can. this will educate you about what foods are better than others.

what ever it is, take it slow, and take small steps. challenge your self to keep the small change for 2 weeks. and 2 more weeks. this is how you make it a life style.

Weight Loss Self Control: How do you get it? Jun 09 2012

remember, your body will want more sugar after it tastes it. It's a vicious cycle. If you manage to lower the sugar intake for 2 weeks, it will get used the new level of intake. Point is, its hardest in the beginning. It's easier. My advice, take small steps; start with simple substitutions and exercise. Then focus on portion control (no munching between meals).

What matters more than what we think is what you think. It sounds to me you're unhappy with your body image, regardless of the numbers. IMHO, this is a psychological issue, not physical. Ask yourself: are there other aspects of your life you're unhappy about? career, where you're living, relationships? are you in the habit of self-criticism? did you grow up with a critical parent? Do you seek external validation, be it body image or other topics?

What's helped me in the past was finding a good book to understand my psychology and loving and accepting myself and life the way it is. This lead me to stop caring what I thought people thought. Believing in myself more propelled me to start getting stronger and healthier physically.

good luck.
