to me low fat just means less fat than protein, it's one of the few numbers i actually try to control every day. I dont count carbs, but if a food has more fat than protein (i usually go for at least 2 protein to 1 fat) then im really not going to eat it anyway. but the nice thing is that i dont really worry about individual foods, just at the end of the day i like to see the same percentage of cals from protein as fats. pretty balanced. sugar is my problem, i do love fruit and its got sugar, lots of it! |

My neck is going to hurt from holding up my swelled head. The idea of other people being motivated by what I did with the weight seemed silly until a buddy of mine just told me that he saw what I did and that's what make him commit to getting healthier. So, I said it ain't easy, but it's not impossible either. Thanks all! |

I have a 16 oz glass of skim milk with sugar free chocolate syrup. About 160 cals, 18 g of protein, no fat and tastes pretty good. Cheap too! |

Ended up getting the soup/sandwich combo at Panera, and a muffin! All together it was about 1800 cals! So of course I was still stuffed and only made a smoothie for dinner and didn't even finish it. Total deficit for the day was 1200 cals. But today is back to normal and a nice healthy breakfast! |

I don't think in coordinated enough to jump on and off the moving treadmill! I tried doing interval training like that a few months ago and it almost killed me. I can see how it is so effective, but it just kicked my butt. I was doing 10mph sprints for 30 seconds and walking fast for 90 for 20 minutes. |

Thanks everybody for the advice and the kudos as well! I never thought of the books on tape idea. It would be interesting to try. I do plan on mixing in weight and strength training, but probably not for another few weeks. My goal is to lose a total of 125 and be in the middle of the healthy range for my BMI. I know that as I start to shift away from all cardio to a mix of that and strength training, the weight loss will slow and stop. 175 would be a nice place to hang out for a while (so I hear). I've thought about speed and incline changes but wasn't sure how to go about it. My 1st goal is to be able to run at a 10 minute mile pace for the entire session. I've been working my speed up by .1 mph every week. I'm at 5.4mph right now. Started last year with being able to jog for only 90 seconds! I was going to start to vary the speed from 5.4 and add .1 mph each minute for 5 minutes and then back down to 5.4 and repeat. Does that seem like to little? Thanks again for the responses! |

If you have a scale, weigh it all dry. Then weigh it when its cooked. The weight should go up about 3x or so. So 2 before is 6oz. after. But thats if you have a scale. If you don't have a scale.....get a scale, you'll need it anyway. Now I want spaghetti! Bon appetit! |

So, I get it. Start sooner rather than later. Does anyone do single sets? I was reading an article that beginners can benefit from doing just one set instead of three. Does anyone have experience with that? I haven't lift any weights in 17 years and I'm sure training methods have changed since high school. dbackerfan - you made me laugh! when someone tells me i look much skinnier, im going to tell them "oh yeah! you should see the muscles under this fat!" thanks all! |
