I don't know how much I lost before I noticed, but I had a class ring that really only fit on my ring finger, and now it's too big even for my thumbs.

You have done GREAT! You need to feel proud of yourself for that, not beat yourself up because you're not all the way to where you'd like to be yet... fifty pounds in less than a year is a HUGE success. Even if the last 25 pounds never went away at all, you're still vastly healthier than you were before you started.

As for your mom's grocery shopping, have you tried giving her a written list of the foods that you want? If you just walk into a grocery store, it's easy to get the stuff you're used to. She might not really KNOW what you want to get it.

And thirty minutes of exercise a day isn't very much. Is there a way you could incorporate more into your schedule? Walk for half an hour a day?

The list is a great idea! I never realized that maybe she just doesn't pay attention to what I throw in the buggy.

I used to walk or jog for about 40 minutes a day, and then I got The Biggest Loser workout about a week ago. I know it sounds crazy, but I get a MUCH better workout with what I'm doing now. Like, I sweat 10 times more than I did jogging. So does that mean I'm fine or I still need to do more? I assumed I was burning a lot more since I was sweating a lot more.

hey kiddo, i agree with lynnhaslost.....and i  think your mother is trying to sabotage you. my husband will buy dougnuts and set them on the counter top. he buys cookies...candy bars. i just don't touch them...cause i'm the one responsible for what goes in my mouth. no one else. YOU HAVE TO DO THIS FOR YOU..! yes...it's nice to get a pat on the back...nice for your friends to go..wow, look how much you've lost! you look great! but you have to do it for you, for your health, your appearance....to feel better about yourself and who you are. losing that much weight is substantial, no easy task. see what you are capable of? even though you've got people around you who aren't really supporting your efforts? they get jealous...but that's not your problem. try buying your own food. get a job.....that will help you lose weight too. be out and about. see your friends now...not later. life is too short. your responsible and capable. take the bull by the horns and make this work. change up your routine, vary your calorie intake, and eat healthy. keep the sugar out of the picture all together..drink water...always...everyday....keep hydrated. your body may be fighting the change, but it will pick up again. just keep at it. read up on the net about plateauing and the different things you can do to break it. only weigh once a day..first thing in the morning. the real kicker will be when your mother and anyone else who is not supporting you sees you get to your goal weight, despite their best efforts to thwart you, and you MAINTAIN it..and never get heavy again!!! i love my friends and family...but i'm sorry....my weight loss is for me....!

Thank you SO much. You're right...I thought I was okay because I was doing this for my health, but also so my friends could see a difference and a certain someone would notice me more. But now I know I have to JUST do it for me.

How long have you been "stuck" here around 150?

Your BMR is around 1400, so you should be losing at 1600.  Unless you're exercising too much?  Or maybe you're eating more than you think.  But it sounds like it would have to be a LOT more than you think to keep your weight steady.

How often do you weigh yourself?

A weekly weigh-in may help your brain, but it makes it hard to see your weight loss until you wait a long time.

Do you really work out every day or more like 5 days / week?

You may be overexercising.  Eat lots of protein to rebuild your muscles after a workout and put that muscle to work burning off your fat.

Do you know your body fat percentage?

Get this measured and you can get a more accurate BMR estimate. And/or get your hip and waist measurements to get a BF estimate.

Calculator data: http://phord.com/cc/?m=US&q=f-19-157-68.2 -1.55-0-0-

I've been around 150 for about 2 months now, plus or minus a few. I exercise 6 days a week, and usually only about 30 minutes a day. I count all of my calories, so I doubt I'm going over by a significant amount. I weigh myself everyday..sometimes even a few times a day, but I only "count" the weight on mondays.

I'm not familiar with 'southern cooking' unfortunately but would it be quite heavy and 'rustic'?  Doesn't she buy fruit and vegetables?   Could she grill meat rather than fry it, for example?

And you say she knows what you're doing but have you sat down and talked it through properly or has she just noticed that you've lost a few lbs but everyone keeps quiet?

Have you tried to generate some income of your own so that you can supplement your diet with healthy foods?  A weekend or evening job, perhaps?  Then you wouldn't be so reliant on mum.

Southern cooking is basically anything that'll clog your arteries, haha. She doesn't buy fruit unless I specifically ask for it, and she only really buys canned vegetables. And yes, she COULD grill meat, she just chooses not to..she says just because I changed my eating habits doesn't mean everyone else has to.

I am trying to get a job, it's just been hard because I don't have a vehicle..plus, gas prices are SO high right now and mom doesn't like me driving when I don't absolutely have to. See, I don't think she should complain about spending extra on some of my food when they won't let me get out to look for a job or fix the car they've been saying they'll fix. UGH

Your mindset is all wrong. Do you like what you done for yourself so far, or are you letting your emotions tell you that isn't good enough for you. Once you start thinking with your mindset on what you really want for yourself.. Which should be........ Good Health and in the best body shape ever.... Your weight will start rolling off again. The more you worry the more you mess up.. Or should I say... Set yourself back.. Just be happy with what you have done this far. Stop changing up your program. It will all fall back into place...

Lynn

Thanks, Lynn. I really am so proud of myself. I've lost 50+ pounds since June! I know that's huge. I don't get to see my friends a lot. I haven't seen them since November actually..I just want to lose as much as possible so that when they see me, they see a big difference. Last time they saw me, I was 165, and I'm only around 150 now, so idk if they'll notice. I know people are going to say I should do this for myself, but who doesn't need people to tell them they're doing a good job every once in a while? It seems all I ever hear from my mom is how hard it is to buy food for me. When I started losing weight, one of my big goals was to get my mom to say she's proud of me. 50 pounds later and she still hasn't said that to me. :/

Like I said, I've been losing weight since last year, so my mom knows what I'm doing. It might just be me, but I almost feel like she wants me to stay fat. She knows that I don't eat anything she cooks because..well, it's "southern cooking", you get my point. If I go grocery shopping with her and actually put food in the buggy that I can eat, she'll get it. But when I'm not able to go with her, like this past weekend, she doesn't bother getting anything healthy for me. So this week, the only things I have are skim milk, a couple of slices of whole wheat bread, egg whites, oatmeal, and cereal. So I guess I'm set for breakfast..? Anyway, I haven't been eating badly for the most part, but if I have enough calories left over, I'll have desert, which I wouldn't have had before.

I got The Biggest Loser workout in the mail a week ago, and that's what I've been doing for a workout. Before that, I was walking/jogging a few times a week. So I have been doing something different. The workout DVD has 4 different workouts, so I'll be able to switch it up when I need to.

I eat at different times during the day..usually at 8AM (breakfast), 10-11 AM (snack), 12-1 PM (lunch), 3 PM (snack), and then I eat dinner around 5-7 PM. If I have leftover calories, I'll eat something else between 7 and 11. I drink about 4 to 5 bottles of water a day..idk if that's enough though.

It doesn't "throw me off" because I hardly ever go over my calorie limit, but I have chocolate ice cream every day unless we run out. I don't pig out on it, that's why I can have it so often and it doesn't effect me.

I have been trying to eat better since last October, and my family cannot eat healthy, I swear. I see junk food as a drug, like I'm a recovering addict or something. So anyway, my mom went to the grocery store yesterday before coming home from work, and I came in to help her put them up. Wanna know what she bought? Oreo cakesters, 2 bags of Cheetos, Ritz crackers, Chips, and all of the stuff to make her delicious cheesy chicken & rice casserole. No, we were not having a party. Oh, and I forgot. She also got a HUGE box of chocolate covered donuts. It drives me crazy that she can't seem to understand, or even care, that doing that is hurting my progress. I see it as bringing home alcohol when there's someone in the house trying to stay sober.

I don't think it's because you're LOSING muscle, but maybe because you're simply not GAINING muscle is the reason for your weight going down faster. That happens to me sometimes too.

You can get a digital scale pretty cheap. I got mine for less than 20 bucks I think at Wal-Mart. All it does is tell you your weight, no other features, but that's really all I need it for.

Yay! I know what you mean! My friends and I were just asking stupic questions one day, and someone asked my crush "What's your favorite thing on a girl?" and he said collar bones. I was like ":/" because I never thought I had them. Now they stand out without me even trying to make them, I'm noticing my shoulder blades, and I can see hip bones when I lay down, haha!

Is It Possible to Go Natural?
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
