Foods Food to Get Back Period? Dec 13 2010

I've lost mine twice before.  I got it back by eating copious amounts of natural peanut butter, nuts, and salmon (not together, of course lol).

Perhaps a caffeine-free herbal tea.  I know Starbucks makes an awesome iced passion tea that has no caffeine.  They sweeten it with classic syrup so a tall size would probably be 90 calories, but you can request to have it with less syrup (which would be less cals).  If you like that, then you can buy a box of the passion tea and brew your own at home!

The Lounge Weird Eating Habits... Dec 10 2010

-I tend to eat out of coffee mugs, and I don't know why.  I usually eat oatmeal, yogurt, or pureed pumpkin out of them. So perhaps those foods are easiest to stir when in a deep container, such as mugs lol.

-I get annoyed when others are in the kitchen, cooking, or eating. lol

-I eat every two hours, religiously.  And get irritated if I can't. It's sad, because this particular habit interferes with my social life.  I have to "plan out" what I will snack on and if I'm going to be back home in time for dinner...etc.

-I hate when others want what's on my plate!

I just really have a bad relationship with food. =(

Weight Loss Drunkorexia. Dec 03 2010

Bizarre. I used to do this all of the time in undergrad and I never knew it was a disorder.  I too would not eat much the whole day (maybe 400 calories tops) if I knew I was going to party/drink later on that night.  However, I was also on a slippery slope of disordered eating anyway when my diet became more and more restrictive.

To this day, even though I am recovered I abstain from alcohol if it is not in my calorie limit.  If I do choose to drink, I fit it in to my daily intake, and usually eat a light breakfast and a salad for the day.  Sad, but true.

I also tend to stray away from alcohol because it causes bloating. I'd rather eat food and be bloated then be drunk and bloated lol.

How about just eating a whole grain pasta to get as much nutrition as you can out of the noodles and then eating a regular portion like a cupful with your healthy sauce of choice?   It's a reasonably healthy side dish and you get to enjoy what you really want in a reasonable amount of calories.   Same as anything else...just watch how much you eat.

Great advice.  But unfortunately, I don't eat pasta.

I think you ate pretty healthy.  But like muchlinski said, it doesn't look like you're getting much protein.  Instead of cereal, you could try oatmeal if you like it.  It has at least 4g per serving.  You could also have yogurt which ranges from 10 to 20 grams of protein per serving.  But good job on covering all of your bases.

In my home, no.  We eat fairly sensibly at all times, thank goodness.

Perhaps when I visit my boyfriend's family though... =/

I don't have a favorite t-giving food.

Weight Loss Too much fat? Nov 18 2010

Original Post by avboston:

I am 17 also. I am a much shorter then you, but I try to eat around 50 grams of fat a day. You should probably eat several grams higher then my because of your height and your activity is a tad more then mine. I would suggest about 60-70 grams of fat each day.

On average an egg contains about 5 grams of fat. So you had about 34 grams of fat today. That is too little. I would encourage increasing that. I eat very similar to you when it comes to fruits and vegetables plus I eat limited meat products. My period went wacky. I increased the amount of fat I eat by adding in peanut butter to my oatmeal, eating more whole nuts, and also eating hummus with all of my vegetables. For now my period as appeared to stabilize.

I am sorry that you took the fellow posters comments offensively. However, if you do plan on losing weight. I do fear that 1,500 calories will not allow you to lose weight. You should be eating probably around 2,500 or possible more calories a day given the amount of activity, your height, and age. If your calorie deficit is too high then you will do more damage to your metabolism then losing weight.

I would increase calories, calcium, and fats to encourage getting your period back. Many female athletes have a problem with their periods. But, if they watch their eating habits and make sure they are getting proper nutrients and amount of calories the problem of a missing period never arises in the first place or soon fixes itself.

What she said.  Eat more fats.  I was maintaining at 111 lbs and as soon as I started undereating and my fat intake decreased to 20% (and weight decreased to 106), my periods got weird. When I upped the fat again to 30-35% of my daily calories, ate a couple hundred more calories a day, gained three pounds, my periods stabilized.  I know you don't wanna hear this, but you should probably up your calories to 1800-2000.

I once used egg whites as a pizza crust substitute:

Of course, egg whites do not taste anything like pizza crust, but I thought I'd share this anyway :)

That is awesome! 35g of protein!!! Thanks!

And yeah I've done the Shirataki noodles.  They're a little "meh" for me, but they get the job done when I want something "pasta-y"! Thanks folks.

Oh no!  Chili's is the WORST if you're watching calories!  Went there a couple of weeks ago and just got vegetables but I had to tell the waitress to hold the butter and all of the extras.  There's nothing on that menu remotely low cal besides the soup and diet coke. SMH

I think it is a great idea. You get the crunch of a bagel and you could fill the inside with cream cheese mixed with shredded vegetables (there is a salad mix with shredded cabbage, carrots, and broccoli that I add to sandwiches and salad that would go great with that) and herbs so you use less of the cream cheese. I may try that myself. Thanks for the idea!! Let me know if you try it and how you like it.

I'm going to try this! Sounds good.

Everyone says that a baked potato topped with cottage cheese is good, but I thought it was horrible!

Lol. I really want to like cottage cheese.  But I can't get over the texture and saltiness.  Maybe you could try Greek yogurt.  I haven't tried it myself, but I heard it was good.
