Have you even given your body a chance to heal after the miscarriage?  I'm a little concerned that you've gone immediately from the miscarriage right back to a strenous weight loss/exercise  plan.  Please give your body time to heal.

I read some of your previous posts where you discuss your unexpected pregnancy and subsequent miscarriage.  I truly feel for your loss.  This must be a sensitive time for you.  Perhaps you are feeling a little more emotional than usual?  It might do you well to take some time away from the court of public opinion and just be with yourself.  Take care!

Even though hgielrehtaeh sounded rather insensitive, I do have to agree that OCD is a medical condition and coming here for help is like asking about fixing a cavity in your tooth without going to see a dentist or handling a broken arm without going to a doctor.  Schnooder ultimately does need to seek out advice from a professional.
The Lounge Patent Attorney? Jan 30 2008

I was a Patent Examiner for 5 years and hated it.  Because I love science and want to be actively involved in it, it was a terrible job for me.  The job takes place entirely in front of a computer where you read, write, and think for 8+ hours a day.  The patent field moves very quickly and consistently emphasizes quantity over quality.  A significant number of people in the technology transfer/intellectual property field change jobs regularly.

If you are the type of science major that is not interested in ever actually doing anything scientific, then being a patent attorney might be the right thing for you.  The patent attorneys are very well paid, but of course they work their butts off.  After you finish your undergrad degree, I would suggest applying for a Patent Examiner position at the US Patent & Trademark Office.  They are always looking for new Examiners and they pay for your law school tuition.  Also, most law firms look kindly upon attorneys who are former Patent Examiners.

momto2siameses, I think the book you might be referring to is "Feeling Good" by Dr. David Burns.  I used it for my depression and anxiety and it was very helpful.  It helps you think and work through your problems instead of obsessing about them.  I know that there are chapters on other disorders like OCD.

schnooder, maybe you want to check it out from your library to see if it might have anything applicable to your situation?

Glad to hear that you've gotten over that absolutely terrifying feeling when you first realize that you're pregnant, so CONGRATULATIONS!

I had my daughter when I was 18 and with the help of my parents I was able to finish my degree in Chemical Engineering and find work to support the two of us very well.  Initially I did experience some age discrimination for being such a young single mom, but over the years I realized that dressing and acting maturely helped some.  If you go around with low cut tops or skin tight jeans that does not help people view you as a responsible parent.  I'm 31 now and it's still obvious that I'm the "young mom" at school.  Two of my daughter's friend's parents have kids my age!

It sounds like you've got a great support system.  I hope that your relationship with your boyfriend is stable and long lasting, because that will make a huge difference for you and your baby.  Good Luck!

I always do my own taxes.  I give myself plenty of time to read the booklets or research questions online.  Last year my father gave me a copy of TurboTax for online filing which turned out to be really great.  I'm a simple tax filer though.  If I owned my own business or something, then I would probably look to a professional.

I watched this show last night and was disappointed too.  It looks like it's going to be really hard for people to get anywhere close to the most revealing/controversial/embarrassing questions.  There were a couple of questions asked last night that I would not have wanted to answer on national TV, but nothing nearly as exciting as one would expect from all the hype.

Your question comes up repeatedly on job boards all over cyberspace and the reality is that 99% of the job postings for this type of work are scams.  Almost everyone would like to stay at home and work from there, but companies and managers like seeing people and seeing them work.  As pgeorgian suggested, your best bet is to think about what niche market you're skilled at and work from there.  If you like animals, do a dog walking service.  You don't mind babysitting, offer drop in babysitting service for parents in your neighborhood.  You used to be lawyer before you had kids, do some contract legal work.  The list goes on and on.  There are real transcription services out there that allow work from home, but they usually hire only experienced folks who can type around 75 wpm.

for someone who has a diagnosed anxiety disorder, job interviews do not necessarily get easier.  I've had almost a dozen job interviews in the last year and they were all terrifying.  The only thing that finally helped was taking anti-anxiety meds.

2.  Social Phobias-speaking in front of a large audience & job interviews.  I have a knot in my stomach just thinking about doing either one of those things.

In terms of figuring out if teaching is really your calling, I totally agree with those who suggested volunteering.  To increase your exposure to different ages & types of kids, please consider volunteering with a scout troop, a church group, or a summer camp.  While it's less structured than the classroom experience, you can gain valuable knowledge about how to handle behavioral issues, keeping kids engaged with fun activities, etc.  Good Luck!

My most weight gain inducing job was working at a psychiatric facility.  As part of the admin. team I was sedentary for most of the day but pharmaceutical reps. visited our office several times a week with fully catered lunches.  Saying "NO" to free food is always a problem for me.

When I first read the header for this thread, I thought to myself that the answer is that they both have "issues".  I heard a recent radio interview with Wyclef Jean (who used to be a member of the Fugees along with Lauryn) and he strongly alluded to the fact that she is going through some mental issues right now and is desperately in need of help.  That's why we haven't heard any music from her in a long time.

I agree with mixing and matching tops to create new outfits.  When I go on vacation, I bring different tops for each day, but repeat bottoms.  I don't think anybody notices when someone  wears the same jeans or black pants or khakis twice in one week.

My sister had a Betta named Mr. Blue.  He was the more gorgeous shade of blue and loved playing dead.  Unfortunately when my sister moved from Virginia to Maryland a few summers ago, he didn't make the trip.  She left him in the car while she went for a meal at Burger King.  Mr. Blue silently passed away in the hot car while my sister ate a Whopper :-(

catherinerich, I feel your pain.  I too hate job interviews and have trouble networking.  I got to the point where I no longer cared about a "career" and only sought a job to pay my accumulating overdue bills.  My job search was a pathetic excercise in continual rejection.  It was so depressing that I went on anti-depressant/anti-anxiety medication.  It really helped mellow me out and I landed a job at my very next interview.  I'm not saying you need medication or anything.  Just keep the faith!
