At this point I'm pretty much flat-chested, I don't even fill out an A cup. I look like a teenage boy. Laughing It doesn't even register on my radar. I've had a few haters online 'make fun' of it and all I can do is laugh at how little I care, they think they're hurting me? Nice try. I've never had big breasts, so I don't know what I'm missing and I have to admit I like not having to lug them around and deal with them flopping all over the place when I'm exercising and wearing thick heavy bras when it's hot outside. My husband likes me just fine the way I am (although sometimes he makes jokes about me looking like a teenage boy).

Health & Support 40% intake of Calories through Protein is considered unhealthy? Feb 20 2012

The human body is pretty adaptable, I don't think there's any specific macronutrient ratio that is just flat-out unhealthy. There are so many other factors that determine how healthy a diet is.

I think it's more important to make sure you're meeting your protein, fat and micronutrient needs than to obsess about ratios.

I, too, feel and look much leaner when limiting carbs..I even have muscle tone! I never had that in the past when I was thin without bothering to diet. I was eating anything then, and while I was thin, I was pretty soft.

Now, I'm not saying every body part is rock hard these days, but the pudge layer is definitely reduced.

That's because of glycogen depletion, not because you have less fat on you.

Well, whatever the reason, I have tone where I didn't see it before, and my muscles feel a lot firmer/stronger, so I'll take it!

That's fine, lets just not go around telling people it's because carbs make you fat.

Carbs (junky foods) DID make me fat and were my weakness.

I've never once said that anyone else *should* go low carb to lose weight.

No one thing does it for all.

They made me fat, too. Not because they were carbs though. Because I ate too much of them.

Workouts that are traditionally considered more 'for guys' are generally more effective for everyone. Go for it! P90x is a great workout and I know lots of people who've gotten in really good shape with it.

I lost weight (and am still losing, down close to 90 pounds now) eating 400+ grams of carbs a day. Whoever told you that is selling something. Ebook perhaps?

Amberva and armandounc:

Can you tell me what your micro-nutrient distribution looks like (the % of Carb/protein/fat...in case I'm saying that wrong)?

Typically my macro breakdown looks like:

45-50% carb
30% fat
20-25% protein

By clinical standards this would qualify as a low-carb diet, but I eat a lot (2800 ish calories a day) so my 'low carb' ratio of 50% works out to 350 grams a day. During my weight loss phase I was eating a higher percentage of calories from carbs, my diet has evolved some recently. My body fat is now so low (10%) that I need to focus on getting more fat through my diet to support proper hormonal function. Fat and protein need are constant, so to meet my needs I had to lower carbs proportionally. NOT BECAUSE CABS MAKE PEOPLE FAT. But because I need to meet my fat and protein need.

It IS a lot of carbs, and I'm not afraid of carbs. I'd pick either the muffin OR the oats, and add another egg.

the calories are fine, I eat about that much for breakfast every day.

Just had a frustrating time trying to find healthy alternatives at Walmar (not where I usually shop). There were very few choices. People who have no other grocery options are challenged by poor selection, placement of product that was obviously discouraging, and having to search the isles for simple basics. Walmart needs to rethink it's marketing!

Ah well, their current marketing scheme seems to be really working well for them, so I doubt they have any incentive to do that.

You've hit upon one of the main culprits behind our diabesity epidemic. Blaming sugar is sort of a red herring, the main issues are socio-economic, not specific dietary components. All the bickering about low-carb vs everything else is distracting us form the work that needs to be done to create a healthier food system.

Why not just cook veg meals, then add an animal product on the side for those who want it? That's what I did for my husband until he decided to go veg too.

Are you exercising? It's way more important than diet for improving health.

Vegetarian Your reason for becoming vegetarian/vegan? Jan 31 2012

I originally did it for health reasons, although I've changed my perspective on that and no longer believe that a vegan diet is healthier than an omnivore diet (I don't think it's less healthy either, for the record). Somewhere along the way I realized that not eating animals just really sits well with me, and I lost the taste for meat and dairy. I thrive on this diet, so I will stick with it until my needs change.

Ah! I feel like a total rookie. I was thinking that it was time to up my weights but that's impressive. I've only been lifting for a couple of months and only do it in the class capacity since I feel like I don't know what I'm doing with free weights.

In fairness, you ARE a rookie! And there's nothing wrong with that, we all gotta start somewhere. Smile When I do a more conditioning-based workout (which is what you're doing), I lift lighter weights. And like michaelduff said, it's best to compare only to yourself. You're lifting more than last month? You're making progress. Progress is the goal.

I do encourage you to add in some more strength based lifting to your routine. You're probably learning some basic form in your class that you can translate to the weight room. Conditioning workouts are good and definitely should be a part of your routine, but strength workouts are important too. There's tons of resources here, on youtube, and in your own gym you can take advantage of to get started.

I'm squatting 120-140 for reps this week.

I don't isolate any of the other muscles, but I row 100-120, bench 100-130, overhead press 70-90.

I've been lifting for a couple years. I know several women who lift quite a bit more than I do.

long story short....whole, unprocessed, plant based diets are the way to go.

Fixed it for you.

Now, I eat a plant based diet, but after reading the China Study I read a WHOLE bunch of other stuff too, and TCS is based on some pretty serious leaps of faith and logical fallacies. There are lots of reasons to eat a plant based diet, but I'm not at all convinced that disease-prevention is one of them.
