I'm a vegan and a pit bull rescuer and I really, really dislike PETA. Always have. |

At this point I'm pretty much flat-chested, I don't even fill out an A cup. I look like a teenage boy. |

| Health & Support | 40% intake of Calories through Protein is considered unhealthy? | Feb 20 2012 04:14 (UTC) |

The human body is pretty adaptable, I don't think there's any specific macronutrient ratio that is just flat-out unhealthy. There are so many other factors that determine how healthy a diet is. I think it's more important to make sure you're meeting your protein, fat and micronutrient needs than to obsess about ratios. |

They made me fat, too. Not because they were carbs though. Because I ate too much of them. |

That's fine, lets just not go around telling people it's because carbs make you fat. |

Workouts that are traditionally considered more 'for guys' are generally more effective for everyone. Go for it! P90x is a great workout and I know lots of people who've gotten in really good shape with it. |

That's because of glycogen depletion, not because you have less fat on you. |

Typically my macro breakdown looks like: 45-50% carb By clinical standards this would qualify as a low-carb diet, but I eat a lot (2800 ish calories a day) so my 'low carb' ratio of 50% works out to 350 grams a day. During my weight loss phase I was eating a higher percentage of calories from carbs, my diet has evolved some recently. My body fat is now so low (10%) that I need to focus on getting more fat through my diet to support proper hormonal function. Fat and protein need are constant, so to meet my needs I had to lower carbs proportionally. NOT BECAUSE CABS MAKE PEOPLE FAT. But because I need to meet my fat and protein need. |

I lost weight (and am still losing, down close to 90 pounds now) eating 400+ grams of carbs a day. Whoever told you that is selling something. Ebook perhaps? |

It IS a lot of carbs, and I'm not afraid of carbs. I'd pick either the muffin OR the oats, and add another egg.
the calories are fine, I eat about that much for breakfast every day. |

I love my thunder thighs! Of course, I love them much more now that they're big STRONG thunder thighs rather than big fat thunder thighs. Get yourself under a barbell and squat! |

Ah well, their current marketing scheme seems to be really working well for them, so I doubt they have any incentive to do that. You've hit upon one of the main culprits behind our diabesity epidemic. Blaming sugar is sort of a red herring, the main issues are socio-economic, not specific dietary components. All the bickering about low-carb vs everything else is distracting us form the work that needs to be done to create a healthier food system. |

Why not just cook veg meals, then add an animal product on the side for those who want it? That's what I did for my husband until he decided to go veg too. Are you exercising? It's way more important than diet for improving health.

I originally did it for health reasons, although I've changed my perspective on that and no longer believe that a vegan diet is healthier than an omnivore diet (I don't think it's less healthy either, for the record). Somewhere along the way I realized that not eating animals just really sits well with me, and I lost the taste for meat and dairy. I thrive on this diet, so I will stick with it until my needs change. |

In fairness, you ARE a rookie! And there's nothing wrong with that, we all gotta start somewhere. I do encourage you to add in some more strength based lifting to your routine. You're probably learning some basic form in your class that you can translate to the weight room. Conditioning workouts are good and definitely should be a part of your routine, but strength workouts are important too. There's tons of resources here, on youtube, and in your own gym you can take advantage of to get started. |

I'm squatting 120-140 for reps this week. I don't isolate any of the other muscles, but I row 100-120, bench 100-130, overhead press 70-90. I've been lifting for a couple years. I know several women who lift quite a bit more than I do. |

Fixed it for you. Now, I eat a plant based diet, but after reading the China Study I read a WHOLE bunch of other stuff too, and TCS is based on some pretty serious leaps of faith and logical fallacies. There are lots of reasons to eat a plant based diet, but I'm not at all convinced that disease-prevention is one of them. |
