Weight Loss What happens to the fat we eat? Apr 12 2008

Original Post by feanor:

Consumed fat is NOT going to go "straight to your fat stores" because it needs to be broken down first just like any other food.. the body can't actually take a piece of candy and stick it on your thigh. =P

ps. Healthy fats found in food are vital for brain optimal function

your brain is made out of alot of fat (the myelin sheath around your nerve endings).

Fat is used for energy, but also for alot of functions within the body, moisture and lubrication, and structural components (lipid bylayer in cells).

Fat also helps your body to absorb nutrients, keeps your hair, skin, and nails healthy and keeps your digestive system going. (without fat, pooping would be next to imposible)

Fat ingested will turn into fat stores if you eat an excess of it. but that is with any macronutrient. Excess of calories turns into fat.. so if you eat alot of fats and oils, but stay within your calories limits, you will not gain weight.

however if you eat the wrong kinds of fats, saturated and trans, it will clog your arteries. So choosing unsaturated fats more often will lead to good heart health, and makes your hair and skin look and feel alot better.

you should never feel guilty for alloweing yourself to have a treat. that's why it's a treat! it's supposed to be a good experience. Eat a lower calorie breakfast and lunch, and if you go over by having a slice of cake and pizza, then so be it.

like canada leaf said.. don't give yourself free reign to eat everything that looks appealing to you, but plan to have a small portion ahead of time.

wow almond butter is expensive.. at least where i'm from anyways. that would have been like $12. I wanna go buy some now it's so tasty lol.

Almond butter isn't unhealthy.. you just need to think of other ways to eat it.. on celery or carrot sticks, apples, spread on a brown rice cake. very delicious.. and if your spreading it rather then eating it off a spoon it won't go as fast. think of  it as a condiment, like ketchup.. not a food group

I think not buying it for a while may be a good idea. I do the same thing with cashews, i'll buy a tin and they'll be gone in 3 or 4 days.. so I've stopped buying them. Everyonce in a while try it by buying a small jar, and seeing what you do with it.. if you can't space it out, don't buy it again for another month or so.

On the positive side of your day, at least your fibre intake will be good!

and it was healthy fat. so it's better than eating 1500calories of doghnuts lol.

If I ate 50g of protein a day my hair would be falling out and my blood sugar would be bouncing all over the place. lol

I get like 75 on a low day.. and I'm not a big meat-eater.. usually only eat meat at dinner because I know I need the iron lol.

i agree with petite power house. women need more fat for baby-making, that's why when they don't have enough of it, they're baby-maker stops working..

Since the testosterone is stoping you from mensrtuating and ovulating, you baby-maker will be rendered useless. So there's no reason that you could not achieve a more masculine look of more muscle - less fat.

Also men have less fat on thier overall body, because they don't have the huge stores that we do, boobs and booty. If you keep working out and build muscle quickly, those feminine areas with dicipate.. giving you a more manish look.

My puppy isn't bored at home all day, she loves it. She's old and she only plays like once a day. One time we were all outside in the front yard (no fence) and we came in and forgot ariel on the front step. When we opened the door an hour later.. she was just sitting there.. enjoying the sun. She has no desire to travel or adventure around the world. She likes her home, and would be lost without it. The only things she needs from us are food, water, a pee pad and a belly rub... no exciting glamourous puppy palace.

fuzzy: Yes, it always makes my blood boil when I hear about someone wanting to buy or has bought a puppy from a breeder.  WHY???

breaders are not the same as puppy mills. Having a select couple of very precious dogs and breeding them to create purebreads is much different then the stuff you get at the pet store. Most breeders don't breed "pom-terrier-bulldog-shihtzu-poo's" and most breeders take care of thier dogs because they are worth alot of money, and no one is going to buy a purebread animal only to have it come home being unable to walk on the ground or dying 2 weeks later from puppy flu. I personally would NEVER ever buy an animal from a pet store. #1) they are ridiculously priced, #2) they all carry diseases or are bread within the family resulting in deformities and health problems, #3) it supports puppy mills.

My ariel came from a farm, where she was bread. They have a male and a female who bread, and the puppies live in thier house. They were covered in poop but that's because the mother didn't wash them, and she was only $300 for a pure bread shihtzu.

I make a mean meatsauce, I use lean ground beef, onions, green pepper, celery, shredded carrot, garlic, mushrooms, canned tomatoes and tomato sauce. Then I put that on spaghetti squash with a sprinkle of low fat parmesan. Best "pasta" ever.

I also make a really good sweet and sour chicken, with chicken breast, green peppers, pineapple, tomatoes, onions, ketchup, red wine vinegar, brown sugar (splenda), cornstarch and chicken stock. served over brown rice.. it's heaven.

yeah I still have cravings.. I got one today... and fixed it with a twix lol. I would usually eat the whole thing at once but I split it up throughout the day. as long as you dont go oveboard you can make room for treats.

If you don't have any cals to spare some good ideas are sugar free jello (5cals), sipping crystal light (5-10 cals), hot tea with sweetener, or sugar free hard candies (5cal) I have the mint chocolate chip icecream sugar free hard candies from baskin robins.. and they are freaking tasty. Oh, also icebreakers sour mints if you like sour.

I read a peice a on a dr's forum a while back saying about people cant seem to lose weight off there bums and thighs. The Dr's response was that your bum and legs are the last place to lose weight. This is due to it being the biggest muscles in your body and it takes longer for all the fat cells to break down. So dont give up. Just be persistant and you will see it eventually!

I hope so! I'd love to keep my butt! .. the first time around it dissapeared!

i duno about the sugar, as long as you are within your cal limits, you will be fine. I go threw phases when new fruits come into season, like i'll eat a whole canteloup in a day (400cal) or eat like 2 or 3 mangoes. as long as it fits.. and it's healthy too!!!

but i just ate two mandarines and i have a VERY bad feeling in my stomach. Like some one is pushing on it from both the inside and out.. i duno whats going on lol

OWIE BAD MANDARINES

Amber- you are not suppose to eat oranges or any citrus fruits if you have not eaten any other foods for a couple of hours. This is because the acid combines with the acid in your stomach and causes a lot of pain.

lol and I thought i was having a good bedtime snack!! guess I won't be doing that agian.. since I already am prone to hearburn! thanks! =P "bad mandarines!"

Their lack of concern only makes me want to lose the weight again...any advice??

You want thier attention, but the wrong kind of attention. Harming yourself isn't going to make them love or care for you more, so try and get their attention in a positive way. They are probably trying to give you space, because they think you are improving. Do you parents know that you are working out so much? If not.. Tell them! If they do, explain to them the severity of the situation and the feelings that you are having surrounding it. You are killing yourself. You have an excersizing disorder that needs to be fixed. You also have body image issues that need to be addressed before you are ever going to find yourself on a path to recovery. You need to stop excersizing so much, and the only person that can help you accept that fact is a proffesional. So my advice? Be COMPLETELY open with your family, get ahold of a doctor, and start going to therapy. Have your parents call and cancel one of your gym/ dance/ kick boxing memberships immidiatley.. you need to start slowly cutting them out.

You will not go to college with this disorder. You will be wasting you money, your life, and your potential. Do you really think you'll care about studying or doing homework when you haven't ran all day? No. You'll haul ass to the gym and start failing your courses. That's why this problem needs to be fixed now. You have to move on with your life and experience all this world has to offer without being trapped behind this disorder.

Weight Loss Where did your weight come from??? Apr 11 2008

mine was from my whole family, my moms side i very stout 5'0 - 5'5 for females, and very overweight, 200-400lbs. it's not a matter of genes, but of eating habbits, i've always been a "clean your plate" kind of kid, and being overweight was just a healthy bit of meat on your bones..  I was always very overweight in elementary school, and levelled out in junior high to a healthy "thick", and in highschool when I decided to loose weight I took things too far. In result my body was messed up along with my metabolism, and I began to binge eat and my weight skyrocketed.. gaining almost 90lbs last year alone.

Weight Loss Fifteen 100 Calorie Meals / Snacks a Day??? Apr 11 2008

When I'm not working, thats exactly what I do. As long as you are getting enough protein, it is really effective.. for me anyways.

I wouldn't do it so precise but something like what you are talking about. Eating small amounts every 1 or 2 hours. however I'm a grazer, and the only meal I find myself "hungry" for is breakfast. So I have a solid breakfast and munch all day on fruit, cheese, popcorn, soup, toast, lunch meat, veggies, icecream.. just pick little bits here and there of what i feel like I want when I want it lol
