Awesome job on your weight loss...also thanks that was just the encouragement I needed.  It also looks like you maintained most of your muscle through the drop.

Its there I assure you...Those were my pics took when goal weight was reached...therefore I didn't want to put any unflattering pics on.

After rereading my original post...I sounded really bad.  I am more after the science of it.  I just can't get over how I have very little body fat everywhere else in my body, but I have the remaining fat on my stomach.

I don't want to strive to burn the remaining fat around my stomach if harmful...for example if have to lose 10 more pounds to trim the fat around my stomach.  I think I would look too skiny and unhealthy in the face and hands for example.   I know there are experts out there they can maybe help with some advice.

eating at maintenance levels will help minimize muscle loss, but will will still lose a little muscle because you are not using the muscle.  Don't sweat it...the muscle and strength will come back quickly when you begin working out again.  I went the same thing with a major shoulder surgeory and bounced back quickly.  Of course I had age on my side...I was only 22 at the time.

Wii Fit plus, of course. A lot of people like Wii active. There are some other games for the Wii Board like The Biggest Loser, and Jillian Michaels has two workout ones for it. Although, I think the second just builds on the first one. I haven't tried them yet but their on my Gamefly list. There is also a pilates one as well as other general fitness ones. All of those call for the Wii board. However the pilates one has some exercises that don't need the boar.

I knew about these but have never played them...would they be fun for grade school aged kids.

Fitness Full Body or Split? Feb 02 2010

there are a lot of factors in determining which of these two you should do...

time, strength goals, intensity of workout, and experience

I prefer to do a split...but right now I am locked in to a full body 2 or 3 times a week because I don't have time to get 4 workouts in a week.  I will vary throughout the year though.  It is always good to give your body something different.  Each one has its own benefits.  Any which way make sure your muscles get plenty rest before working out that same muscle group again.

I didn't mean to offend anyone on the forum.  I just don't like to see a newbie on here feeling good about themselves for trading in their fast food doulbe cheeseburger w/bacon for a low fat granola bar and low fat yogurt, and than have another person criticize the newbie for a choosing a low fat granola bar.

I feel I am very knowledgable and I understand that whole (unprocessed) foods are much better for you in many ways.  I suppose there are steps to becoming a totally fit person and going from one extreme to the other is going to take time and some support.

Typical americans are so far from healthy (eat doritos, fast food, and ice cream) that soliciting advice about eating raw whole foods maybe too much of a change and set them up for failure on their quest to becoming healthier.

I feel your pain...last night my wife and kids talked me into going out for pizza.  I agreed and told myself I will eat a salad there...Pizza showed up on the table and couldn't resist.  I only had 2.5 pieces though, which was a small victory for me (I used to eat around 8 pieces).  I had instant guilt and was really upset with myself.  When I got home later that night I took my anger out on the eliptical and burned most of the calories back off.  I also had another small victory in this defeat of my will power...I showed my wife on this website how many calories pizza has in it and I think I convinced her we don't want to go to Pizza Hut again.

I don't know a lot about the scenario, but there are statagies body builders use with similar techniques to try and preserve as much muscle as possible....with that said I do however disagree with acretin...all weight loss will have fat loss and muscle loss.  Unless you maintain a very strict diet your body will react normally and lose a normal amount of muscle with the weight loss.  I have lost weight persnolly before and didn't do any cardio only resistance training and lost muscle as well as fat.  I think with strict diet and exercise these percentages can be skewed.  This advice would only work for a very small percentage of people wanting to lose weight.  So if you are an Average Joe I wouldn't think is necessary to follow your trainer's advice...burn as many calories as you can. Also I agree with Oldguysrule advice about anaerobic activity.

Weight Loss What do i do about veggies?! Jan 26 2010

I have found using a food chopper or food processor works well.  I can handle the vegetables when they are finely chopped and put in with the recipe, but if they are in large chunks...not happening.  For instance...chicken florentene (SP) I eat with quite a few vegetables, but if the vegetables are large chunks I won't touch it.  It blends the flavor instead of one bite tasting like onion and the next bite tastes like squash and so on.

My breakfast and lunch are almost always the same (I do have different lunches on the weekend) I will vary supper.  I find this to be one of my best stratagies for weight loss and management.  I know how many calories I am eating and the energy I will have from these meals.

My bf HATES working out and I love it so much that I consider it a hobby of mine.  I have tried and tried to get him to work out with me but he just won't.  I'm actually beginning to think that he is embarrassed around me (he has about 45 pounds to lose).  He finally started going to his free company gym (alone) and is starting to feel better about himself.  I am still workout buddyless and it totally sucks.  For all of you that get to workout with your bf/husband/sig-other, I am soooo jealous!

You described my situation pretty clearly...except it is me who loves to workout...and my wife doesn't like it.  Sometimes it has put a strain on our relationship.  Everytime I go to our basement to workout she doesn't want to therefore we will spend a lot of time apart from each other in the evening.  I often wonder if she is upset at me or what is exactly going through her head while I am downstairs working out.  The ironic thing is we will both be watching the same TV program and text back and forth comments about the show as I am working out.

Foods Ground turkey vs Ground beef? Jan 12 2010

I will take my grassland fed homegrown cattle from my dad's farm any day over store bought fattened turkeys with horomones from a poulty manufactuer...but this is not an apples to apples comparison.  Our cattle on the farm are much more lean than cattle a processing plants and feed yards.

But if you are buying from the store you could choose between all different levels of fat on either.

I have tried it with a spoon...its okay.  Found out I don't love salsa that much.  I need something cruchy to go with it.  BTW went to a chiefs game this year...Chiefs vs Browns-ugly game.  Jamal Charles is the real deal though.

I really enjoy this...it is ironic on here how I am considered the unhealthy one for giving my kids froot loops.  When I go to my in-laws I some weird health nut to them.  They will have all the unhealthiest snacks known to man for my children to eat...and then I want them to come back and eat Kashi cereals...LOL.

But back on topic I think the article really should say life is all about the choices we make...work out or don't work out?...eat this or eat that?  I for one always try to make the best choice possible...sometimes it may choosing between two evils. LOL

Why is the alternative to Froot Loops a doughnut?  Why isn't it Cheerios?  Or Raisin Bran?  They seem like far more logical alternatives.

I'll also disagree with you on the fast food and say that it would be better to give your kids an Egg McMuffin for breakfast than a bowl of Froot Loops.  At least the Egg McMuffin has all of the nutrients from the egg plus some calcium from the cheese and protein from the egg/cheese/ham.

So, I guess that means McDonalds is better than Froot Loops.  And when you lose to McDonalds, you really shouldn't get to call yourself a healthy food!  Smile

McDonalds will have a lot of added fats that are not healthy due to the cooking grease and the mcmuffin will be as processed as it gets.  Also look at the caloric value of each serving between froot loops and McMuffin. I say the winner is froot loops.

Some of you are either not parents or have the most perfect children.  I am a health nut my kids and most of the people around me know that.  I will do anything to get my kids to eat the right foods.  Hell yeah I give my kids froot loops in the morning or other artifically flavored cereals because they offer some nutritional value especailly including the low fat milk.  According to some of you it is okay if just let them eat the Hostess Choclate donuts my wife buys instead of froot loops.  This is the world we live in...we have really healthy choices, okay choices, and really unhealthy choices...I just make the practical decision for my kids.  Just to let you know I am the type of parent that has sat at the table an hour with my kids at supper to get them to eat veggies...just don't have that much time in the morning and I don't want to send my kid to school hungry.

I used to have that problem...I would be freezing all day, especially after I ate.  Funny how putting on close to 20 pounds fixed it, but its not worth it.  My body fat was under 10% for sure more like 6 or 7 at the time.  Now I don't want to know what it is.

thanks all...support is what I feel I need.  Kristine you hit the nail on the head for me.  I love to work out, and I feel confident that can be my replacement for a few beers each night.  My biggest struggle will be my wife...she is actually worse than I am.  The other night we had no beer and she insisted I go buy some.  At first I told her no...it was 0 degrees with -25 wind chill and about 10 o clock at night.  But I eventually gave in.  The other problem with my solution as a coulple...my wife does not enjoy working out...it is a big pain in the butt to her. not to mention we have three little ones at home...one is a baby

But all in all I feel very motivated from your posts.

It is amazing how many stories I have read on this thread about when someone meets the one they truly love they gain a lot of weight for the first time or again.  I have not had this happen, but does it happen because they happy on the inside and nothing else matters (eating out all the time and such)?
