Calorie Count syncing between desktop and mobile Nov 23 2011

I find that the synching is hit and miss for me.  Some days it syncs automatically, other days I have to run the manual sync.  Although, since I downloaded the last update I find that I need to manually sync a lot less than before and when I do, it synchs pretty fast.

Weight Loss How have your taste buds changed? Nov 18 2011

I noticed this too.  When I first changed the way I ate, I really had to force the 'healthy' food down, espectially vegetables.  I always hated salads and could only stomach them if drenched in salad dressing.

Now I love fruits, veggies and especially salad.  If I don't have at least one bowl of salad in a day, I begin to crave it.  Anyone who knew me before would think that it was mental!  lol

Also, I no longer eat chocolate or deserts.  I haven't had any since February...not because of any diet restriction but because they're just not worth the extra calories to me anymore.  Thankfully, I don't crave them at all.

I still do crave salty Ketchup Chips (it's a Canadian thing Smile) but, other than that, my whole palate has changed.

Weight Loss Body dysmorphic disorder or what? Nov 09 2011

I can totally relate to everyone.  I was 359 lbs. and convinced that while I could lose a few pounds, I was perfectly ok.  I was in complete denial.

I think I needed to believe that to be able to function without major depression.

Now that I'm 232 lbs. I'm so critical but happy that I can see my body for what it really is...because that is helping me stay motivated to keep losing.  Denial just allowed me to keep going down that unhealthy path.

Although, I sometimes worry if I will be happy when I've reached my goal weight.

It really is so weird how our mind plays tricks with us.

Thanks for posting this question, positivepiperjen.  I would love to know the answer too!

The elliptical at the gym would say I burned approx. 190 calories but when I plug it in here, at moderate, I get a 358 calorie burn.  I would love to know which is more accurate.

It gives me hope that I can get there one day too!

Congratulations!!!!!  I know that feeling...it's awesome.  I used to dread shopping for clothes.  My only motivation was to find ANYTHING that didn't make me look too horrible...and when I found something I was semi-comfortable in, I would wear it until it wore out.

Now I can actually shop for cute stuff...all those styles that I avoided look cute on me and I love shopping now.

Best wishes!!!!

Weight Loss weigh in after treat days/high calorie days/cheat days...YOUR RESULTS. Sep 11 2011

The day after a "high calorie" or "cheat" day I would typically gain anywhere from 3 to 5 lbs.  It seems to depend on the sodium content of what I ate that day.  It comes off in a couple of days though.

I sort of plan cheat days around events.  If I'm invited to a bbq or birthday party or plan to go out with friends for dinner etc...I allow myself to eat more than usual but still try to not go too crazy.

The cheat days don't seem to have any effect on my weight loss as a whole.  I still consistently lose 4-5 lbs. per month.  Although, I guess if I didn't have a cheat day it might be more.

I don`t restrict myself from any food...I just work my calories around what I crave...always making sure I have a deficit each day.  Cheat days just mean that I eat more for that day...either right at maintenance or a little higher.

Only one thing effected my weight loss.  I added weight training to my exercise.  That first month I didn't lose a single pound although I didn't alter my eating from the norm.  I tried to ignore it (thanks to the support of CC forum members when I posted in a panic! lol).  The next month, I was back on track and lost 4 lbs.

Thank so much guys...that makes me feel a better.  I guess I jumped the gun and should wait a little longer before seeing results.

I never worked out a day in my life before and this month is the first time I've done any weights.

It's wild how the body works...I had no idea that my muscles would hold water, now that I actually started using them.  lol

Thanks for talking me down from my panic attack...I'll keep it up.  Funny thing is that I actually like it.  I don't know how to describe it, but I love the feeling after I lift weights.  I think I could get addicted to it.

Weight Loss Vegetables v. Soup Aug 23 2011

Definitely soup for me!  I tried to make my own most of the time to avoid the tremendous amount of salt in store bought, but either way I find soup comforting and very filling.

If I find myself getting a serious case of the munchies I warm up a great big bowl of homemade vegetable soup (no pasta) or a couple of packets of Beef Vegetable Cup-a-soup (only 45 calories each) and it would do the trick and tide me over until my next meal or bedtime.

I know that there are a ton of other low calorie snacks but soup is so comforting especially on cold winter days/nights!

Weight Loss how much do i have to lose before it starts to show? Aug 23 2011

Congratulations.  I was approximately 350lbs when I started to lose weight.  It took me 2 years but I'm down to 242 lbs now.

When I lost around 40 lbs some people would notice I lost some by saying they could tell in my face.  It wasn't until I lost 80lbs before anyone really started to comment.

I think a lot of it has to do with body type but I, personally, suspect that it may have something to do with people not really looking at me when I was that weight.

I don't know if anyone else has come across this, but I found that when I was extremely obese at 350+ most people would avoid looking at me...no one was rude or anything but it was like they purposefully avoided looking at me.  Now that I have lost weight, I've found that people actually return my looks and smiles now...even hold open doors or help me if I drop something.

I wish you all the best.  Never give up...it really does work.  Feel free to PM me if you have any questions or need any support.  I can totally relate. Laughing

Weight Loss So discouraged... Aug 19 2011

Please don't give up.   I have been on CC since Feb 2011 and I consistently have one day a month where I don't count calories and not worry what I eat too much.

I can tell you that, for me,  sometimes it takes 3-4 days to get back to where I was...especially if I've had a high sodium meal.  The most important thing is not to give up.  With my 'cheat' days, I've still managed to lose 4-5 lbs a month since Feb.

When you have one of those days, try not to get discouraged...just get right back on track and give yourself a week before stepping on the scale again.

Good luck!!!

Weight Loss Fat days Aug 18 2011

I thought I was the only one!!  It happens to me frequently.  Most times I feel so good that I`m down 4 dress sizes and super confident; then I get that day that I look at myself and can`t believe I`m so fat and it makes me feel horrible and unattractive.

I think it`s because I went through life in denial.  Even though I was morbidly obese, I somehow ignored it by avoiding looking at myself in mirrors or taking pictures.   it`s like I would pretend to myself that I was fine and it would help me get through the day.

Now that I`m losing weight I`m starting to really look at myself and most days I feel proud but some days all I see is my imperfections and get depressed.

I just keep reminding myself how far I`ve come and try to think positively about how I`m just half way through my journey and I`m not finished yet.  I imagine how much better I`ll look next year, if I keep going on like I have, and it picks me up.  After a few hours of this I manage to pull myself out it.

Thanks for positing this.  I feel better knowing that I`m not the only one.

Weight Loss Constipation Aug 12 2011

Hi jayblue111.  I can totally relate.  I had this problem when I first started adding more fibre to my diet.  It's got better for me lately due to a couple of things.

My doctor prescribed a stool softener to use for when it was getting unbearable and told me to drink A LOT of water as well as walking.  The water thing was hard for me...it took a few months to get up to drinking more than 8 glasses a day. But now that I'm drinking a ton of water, it seems to be helping...and I don't know what it is about walking but it seems to get things moving, if you know what I mean.  :)

I don't know if this will work for you, but I'd love to hear if anyone has other ideas that works.

Weight Loss My story on weight gain Aug 12 2011

Thanks so much for sharing.  I'm sorry to hear about your accident, but glad to see that you have recovered.

I can relate to some of your background.  I am not Dutch but I grew up in a very traditional italian family...and food was plentiful and all home cooked.  I also never learned about food groups or healthy portions.  We all ate everything until we were full...to bursting most of the time. lol.

This was fine as a child, but when I hit puberty the weight started to accumulate.  My understanding of losing weight (diets) was severe...eating 500-600 calories a day and consisting mostly of salad, canned tuna and baked chicken breast without skin.  As you can imagine...that was not substanable for me so I never lasted long nor lost weight, just kept gaining.

Finally, at 45 years old, I figured it out for myself (thanks a lot to CC!).  I just watch my calories in vs. calories out and kept a steady deficit.  I don't restrict myself from any foods.  Nothing is good or bad...it's just calories to me.

Without realizing it, I started make better choices.  I could eat more and feel less hungary with certain foods, so before long I was choosing the healthier, lower calories foods without really thinking about it.

I guess it's all psychological for me.  I can have hamburger and an order of fries together if I want, but if I skip out on the fries today, I can eat a better dinner...so I do.  But if I told myself that I was not allowed to eat fries until I was at my goal weight...I would obsess over it, then eat the fries...figured I 'cheated' so what the hell, then eat everything in site...and goodbye losing weight...lol.

So far CC's method seems to work for me...I've lost 40 lbs since February at a good steady pace...I don't feel deprived or like I'm on a diet at all.   I don't feel guilty no matter what I eat because no food is forbidden.  I can really see myself eating like this forever.

Sorry for my long post...I wish you all the best on your journey and hope you find what works for you!

Weight Loss 292 lbs and I am starting my Gi Diet today. Aug 04 2011

Congratulations on starting today.  I'm not sure what a "GI" diet is, but I can tell you from experience that the CC method really works.

I started in Feb./11 at 284 lbs. and by just logging my food and keeping my deficit at around 500-600 calories a day it worked.  I weighed myself this morning and was 243.6 lbs.

I avoided excersizing because it was so uncomfortable to move around at my high weight but now I feel better and just joined a gym.

Here's my tips;

1.  Log ALL your food (the good, the bad and the ugly)

2.  Read the forum (even though I don't reply very often, I found it very inspirational and it helped to keep me on track when I would get frustrated).

3.  Don't restrict any foods.  (Make sure you fit in your treat foods in your calorie allowance- my weakness is Ketchup Chips and hamburgers - I love that I can lose weight and still eat whatever I want)

4.  Treat yourself to a 'no count' meal once a week.

Good luck on your journey...I wish you all the best!!!!
