I hate "ma'am" more than anything... but hun and sweetie/sweetheart are pretty annoying as well. I don't mind babe or baby.

My bf and I have some pretty ridiculous nicknames for each other... I call him pooky, pookybug, potato, nerdybug. He calls me princess, little Dee, dorkybug... And we're not even one of those annoying couples that's all smoochy and cuddly all the time.

The models on the Victoria's Secret swimsuit section are much healthier looking in my opinion.

The first girl is pretty skinny (and not in a good way), and her pose doesn't help... lifting up your arms like that makes your ribs stick out even more.

I'm not sure to what extent that double standard exists anymore... I think men and women are judged just as critically and are equally hard on themselves.

I know just as many men who are as obsessed, if not more obsessed with their image than a lot of girls I know.

As evidence, just look at the increasing rates in cosmetic surgery for men (cheek implants, chin implants, calf implants, plugs, lipo, etc). And look at all the new skincare and makeup that's available for men - Clarins, Neutrogena, Boss, Zirh... etc.

There are a lot of men that appear to be confident in themselves despite their "flaws", but I think there are just as many women out there who are happy with their bodies and aren't afraid to flaunt them.

My only advice for the microdermabrasion/chemical peel is to go to someplace reputable... even if it means spending a bit more money. The last thing you want is for someone to burn off a layer of your face! It happens...

Re: teeth whitening - I did Zoom! whitening a few years ago. It worked well, but it hurt like an SOB for the next day. It beats the strips and the gel trays (which make your teeth uber sensitive every time you use them). At least with the Zoom! you get it over with in one day.

Re: hair - like someone else said, try hair gloss or a shine enhancer. I used Herbal Essences. It lasts for about a week (if you wash your hair every day)

Other fun stuff to spice up your look - bronzer, new lip gloss, new perfume or body lotion, some cool new jewellry... etc. The good part is that you don't have to spend a fortune on those.
The Lounge Quick question. What brand of eye cream do you use? (no drug store brand pls) Jan 21 2008

Usually, clothing companies (like Chanel, Dior, YSL) who branch out and start making cosmetics don't do a very good job. The colours might look pretty for make-up, but the quality is just not that great. You're better off going for a company that specializes in cosmetics (except La Mer.. that stuff is so overrated. It doesn't work that well and it smells like Nivea).

My favorite undereye cream is by Clarins, it has SPF 30 in it. Smells nice, and goes on smooth.
The Lounge Any compulsive hair straighteners out there? Jan 18 2008

Get a good straightener... I have a CHI, it's awesome.

Oh, don't get one of those straighteners that take you from wet to dry right away, those are even worse for your hair than regular straighteners.

Also get a good protecting cream, I have one that I use by Kerastase. It's nice and light, and smells really good.

My typical hair straightening process is this:
- let hair air dry for a bit
- put in protecting cream
- seperate hair into sections and straighten with a blowdryer and a big round brush
- go through with flat iron just on parts that need it

This is bullsh*t, you know the rates are gunna go up now right? As if traveling wasn't expensive enough in the first place.

Why should I have to pay just because someone else is taking up two seats?

Weight Loss How would you describe me? Jan 09 2008

Nice hair... no roots showing, the colour suits you, nice makeup... not too overdone, and the red lipstick looks great with your black dress, I also like that you don't have too much eye makeup on (that I can see anyways). Looks like you care about your appearance, which is always a good thing.

I'd say the same as all of the other posters, maybe tone up a bit but other than that I'd say you look great.

My birthday is on the 10th, but I don't plan on going nuts. The only thing I want that's out of the ordinary is dinner at Tony Romas. I love their ribs and I haven't been there in probably a year (maybe longer than that).
Weight Loss gym equipment reality Jan 08 2008

Most machines are set to calculate the calories for a person of average fitness who is about 150lbs, and they assume that you are doing the exercise correctly (i.e. not holding yourself up using the handrails on the stairmasters, using both arms and legs on the elliptical, not holding on while walking on the treadmill, etc). So assuming you weigh 150lbs, are of average fitness, and are doing the exercise correctly, you would burn approximately what is shown on the machine (again, it's just an approximation).
Motivation GAP...vanity sizing gone mad? Jan 08 2008

Does vanity sizing hold true for shoes too? Cuz I swear in high school I was a size 9, now I find myself fitting into an 8... I'm pretty sure my feet didn't shrink!

Sizing is messed up, I don't get how I'm an XXS in one store and an L in another store. How does that work? I agree that our sizing should be more like men's, but even with men's clothing now it has become a bit ridiculous (my bf is a medium in most brands, but in some, especially D&G he's an XL).
Foods what's the deal with hummus? Jan 07 2008
22:41 (UTC)

The ingredients in hummus are very good for you - chickpeas, tahini, olive oil, garlic, lemon juice - you really can't go wrong. It appears to be high in fat because of the olive oil and tahini, but both contain good fats that you need.

Just keep in mind not to go overboard. It has calories, just like any other food.

As for a serving size, I'd imagine it's a quarter of a cup or something? Just check the container.

I had tried a few after hearing all the news about the link between breast cancer and anti-perspirants... Tom's of Maine seemed to be the best (in terms of scent). I tried another one by a company called Green Beaver, it was unscented but it had this really weird smell (not perfume, probably just the ingredients).

They're hard to get used to, I ended up going back to regular anti-perspirant, but it's worth it if you don't mind them (in terms of decreasing your exposure to potential cancer-causing agents).

Maybe some guys are intimated by taller women, especially shorter guys (short man syndrome) but that's only a small percentage. I'd love to be as tall as you! I'm just under 5'8'' and I love wearing high heels so I can tower over everyone, lol. You are a very pretty girl so you gotta flaunt it! (I don't mean walk around half nekkid, just strut your stuff!).

Shyness can be interpreted as being cold/rude, so just remember to smile lots, especially if you don't have anything to say. Smiling is contagious.

The last poster was right about confidence being key... that's the best tip anyone can give you.
