sakhmet -- that sounds delicious! i think i'll suggest it soon. we are really lazy and never make "real" food -- we eat a lot of morningstar farms "mealstarters" like chicken strips and burger crumblers, but we need a change!

i did mean burgers and things when i said "guy friendly" -- hearty, not lettuce-based. he has a big appetite and really loves food.

we are having an entirely vegan wedding, and i have had some complaints from people who say it is rude or inconsiderate to my guests. i say that 1) it's our wedding and because we are "ethical" vegans, it would be wrong to support or endorse or facilitate meat/dairy eating, and 2) it's our wedding and we should be able to eat everything there! i think we are going to make the food ourselves with the help of our mothers/grandmothers. we've been veg for a long time, so we come to the table with a lot of favorites that shouldn't be hard to make. we will just hire servers to dish it out so that we (and our moms) have nothing to think about on the big day.  what are you planning for your menu?

speaking of wedding cakes, we have found a vegan baker, but i have yet to call to find out details (we're getting married out of state, so i have to do all of the planning from afar). i'm the worst wedding planner ever -- i think i'm just kind of hoping it will all come together somehow...

i would like to complain that it is my fiance's fault that i can't lose weight!  he just makes really good food and i love to eat.  i don't get to see him all that much (we live about 1.5 hours away from each other!) so every time we get together is like a date/vacation.  he is supportive of me trying to get into shape, but of course he keeps saying, "i think you're perfect the way you are" and all of that nice stuff.

any tips on fun, "guy-friendly" food i can suggest/make that i can eat, too?  we are vegans, i forgot to say.  big point.

how are you all doing?

hello -- i see no one is posting, but i would love to get in a group like this!

i am getting married june 13, 2008, and i would like to lose 20 pounds and really tone up.  my dress is a halter, so i need great arms and a toned back!

also, i'm getting married on the beach and spending the week before the wedding at the beach with my friends and family, so i'd like to look awesome in all of the candid shots of me in a bathing suit and not just be dodging the camera like i do now!

is anyone still interested in making this a weekly check-in?  i'm doing "the biggest loser" with my mom and my best friend, but it would be nice to have some brides to talk to, too.

lunamagae... what's in gum?  i know icebreakers has gelatin, but most others are fine, right?  if not, i'm in big trouble as i've been a vegan for almost 7 years and i never knew!

for me, i really really really really miss gummy bears and worms.  i like sour patch kids, but it's not the same "gumminess" that i loved so much.

this one is kinda gross, but i miss kraft macaroni and cheese.  just super sloppy, cheesy goodness right out of the blue box.

i really shouldn't be complaining.  i am not being extremely strict with my diet because i want to allow myself a chance to enjoy french food.  plus, i'm working out at a french gym, and i'm a bit of a klutz because of the language barrier -- i am much slower in step classes, etc., than i was in the US because i have to concentrate a lot more.  but i can tell that my body is in better shape and my clothes are fitting better, regardless of what the scale says.  so arrrgh i will just keep on keeping on!

how's everyone else feeling this far into the challenge?

finally below 130... but barely!  i am really having trouble eating well.  i haven't been pigging out, but i have just had a bit here and a bit there that is what is sabatoging me.  i am just afraid to be too extreme, like i was the last time i dieted.  the last time i lost a lot really quickly and then as soon as i went back to eating normally, i gained it all back.  i want to lose at a healthy rate, but not THIS slowly!  any thoughts?

that always happens with the soy ice cream!  because it comes in a pint container, i always eat straight from it.  i feel like i only scrape a few layers off, but the next thing i know, i can see the bottom!  peanut butter zig-zag makes me crazy and chocolate fudge brownie chunk is the devil.

i want some now.

wow thank you all for the quick replies!  the older one used starfall for a while and loved it -- until he got totally sick of it.  i have no idea why that happened :)

i think it is just tough because i have to find things that they will BOTH enjoy.  they have problems doing anything on their own.  for instance, cgolly, when you suggested that i play blocks with the little one while the older one does a puzzle, the problem is that they older one gets really upset and starts crying/whining, saying, "nooooo, play with meeeeeeee!"  i have been with this family for 7+ months now, and i have come to accept that there is not much i can do to change their characters -- i just have to work with what i have!

i think i will try making the salt dough and making a scavenger hunt.  they have a pretty good backyard that could be perfect for that.   maybe some gardening, too, if i can get their mother's consent to change her yard!

thanks again and i'll let you know if i survive the two weeks!

hi guys,

no weight lost this week (spent three days in paris, so i am proud of myself just for maintaining!)

and only 2 hours of exercise... ugh.  unless i can count the hours and hours walking around paris?

p.s. i LOVE this challenge and i am so glad that it is still going!  do we have a final date, or is this just a constant support system?

p.p.s. why am i champion of the world?

i think it is great to have people (who actually care!) to tell about my weight loss.  it gets really old for friends and family to always have to hear me talking about it.

plus, it makes my weekly goals seem more real -- if it were just me giving myself a pat on the back each week, it wouldn't seem as significant.  these "points" validate it a bit for me, i guess.

ok CW 134 so really not much weight loss at all, but i did exercise 8 hours.  and i had to weigh myself at the end of the day -- i found the scale -- it is currently tucked away in the far corner of the kids' mom's room.  so, either she stopped wanting to share, or she is hiding from her own weight!

i exercised 8 hours, but i guess use the same weight because i haven't been able to get to a scale again.  i am an au pair and usually i use the mom's, but it has disappeared from the bathroom!  if it doesn't come back soon, i'll ask about it.

Allergy Remedies
Is It Possible to Go Natural?
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
