Original Post by k9stylist: Yeah I'm near Chicago. It's about an hour drive to Chicago from where I'm at. And yeah you will probably freeze when you come up here because it's below 70 and it's still august. I used to like the snow and cold weather a lot but now that I'm a little older and have been around it so much it's kind of makes me sick. Maybe I get cold easily now becaue I lost weight, but I want to HOT for once. Over the summer I went to Florida and I was like YES!! Then I came back and I was like..shoot...Illinois... Well since you can't figure out my german I will tell you what it means. It's the same as saying "My name is Ben, what is yours?" I don't know much in german because I have only been learning for a week and a half... But it's fun. |

Yeah I know but even people my age don't eat much. While I would eat 5 slices of pizza, they would eat one. And they are the same age as me. How does that work?? |

Okay well, I'm a 15 year old guy that has lost 20-25 pounds and am now maintaining 106-107, exercise daily, and eat 2,600 calories. I lost that amount of weight in about 4 months and for the past 2 months I have been maintaining. I'm 5' 2" so I'm short but there IS good news. I have grown 2 inches over the summer and through growing that 2 inches have gained about 4 pounds I think. So I am hoping I will keep on growing. My goal is to get to 5' 8". Then no one can ever call me short again. lol I live In northern Illinois and i HATE it. It is so dang cold and I am getting very sick of it. School has started and it is VERY busy. I am honors in everything so I get a lot of homework but it's fine. To work out I get up at 5:30 and start my routine at about 6:00 and end at about 7:00. Then I get ready to go and am ready by 7:45. Get back from school at about 3:50, eat a snack, do homework, am almost done my dinner time (6:00) and If I'm not I have to keep going and then am done at about 8:00. Then I have one hour of me time lol then sleep time then it starts all over the next day...exciting right??lol I am learning to speak german. ich heibe Ben, wie heibt tu? lol you can probably tell what that says... If you know, you can answer the question if you want. |

GREAT JOB!! I remember when I first tried to change my ways it was SO hard. What worked for me is not cutting everything out all at once. Let yourself have what you used to have. Just baby steps towards a good diet. If you restrict all at once your setting yourself up for failure. Just be conscious of what you are eating and try and do better and soon enough you will be eating healthy, happy, and not even wanting that ben&jerry's ice cream.. KEEP GOING, YOU CAN DO Iiiiitt lol |

You mean pacers? lol I just did those this past week! I'm a guy and did 66 and there was one other guy that did 3-5 more than me but I was one of the last ones. So 59 is great. wow, now I feel like a failure...a girl almost beat me lol. Next time I'll get 70-75. According to my pe booklet thing I think 50+ is healthy for girls and 65+ is healthy for guys so GOOD JOB. I think what they mean my healthy is like A+, great, suberb(hahaha), etc. So you are above average. great job. |

Well since your body is in good condition working out will tone you out and you won't lose fat if you eat enough. You can cut out the junk and exercise and not lose weight. That's called being healthy and most people really suck at it.lol |

Your plan sounds simple and good. But I heard it's impossible to lose body fat % and gain muscle mass % at the same time.. Sorry. You can still do both, just at different times. Like focuse on fat loss for a month, then muscle gain for a month. When you focuse on fat loss, you usually lose muscle too. And when you focuse on muscle gain, you usually gain a little fat. But if you balance it out you will be BEAST! lol To gain muscle you need to increase both your calorie and protein intake. Like 1-1.5 grams of protein for every pound of body weight and eat more but more of the good stuff like lean meat, whole grains, fruits, and veggies. Just because you can have 3,200 calories a day doesn't mean you can eat 2,000 calories worth of sweets and the rest good stuff. That would be unhealthy. Very low sweets and very high protein when gaining muscle. Protein shakes will aid in getting that protein in and will help your muscles recover from your workout if you take it right after your workout.

Original Post by jluciver: You should be eating more. You're right, I agree with you, you need to burn calories to lose weight. But it is not good to starve yourself. I heard the absolute minimum a man should be eating is 1,500 and a woman 1,200. But you should be having at least 300 over that. So you should probably be having 1,500 calories so you don't starve yourself... med, don't set that hard and unrealistic goal for yourself. You should be losing 1-2 pounds a week but no more. So let's see, a good goal for you is 5 pounds in three weeks. But if you do set that goal, don't get down on yourself. If it's only like 3 pounds that's still good. At least you know you are doing something. And it is probably going to stay off since you are doing it the right way by not starving yourself and excercising. puh8suwrux has a good idea and I think you should try that as well. Set goals that you have control over. |

I was once in this kind of situation. I am also 15, but I am a boy... I was like, ok I have to do something, but then I thought of all the distractions. You just have to make excersising your top priority. Like you HAVE to do it no matter what. Only exception is your on vacation or you absolutely can't do it. I excersise right after I eat in the morning, which is around 8:50. I remember I used to make promises so often to myself. Only the next day they would be broken by "I don't want to run", and, of course, food. Running for me is hard. So I picked up a jump rope because I saw my brother doing it for wrestling and just started seeing how many I could do just because. Then I started getting more serious and thought, "Hey, this could work." It took a while but now I jump rope for 60 minutes 10 minutes at a time at a pretty fast paste. At first I could only do a 100 jump ropes and have to take a break. Well now I can do like 350-500 jump ropes in a minute and do that for 10 minutes. After a while your body gets used to it and gets better at it. You just have to keep at it. So buy a speed jump rope at a sports place, workout place, or wherever. It really is a good workout, and I have an area where I watch tv and jump rope at the same time, so that's cool! The best thing about it is, it is as hard as you make it. So make up your own workout routine. Don't call it dieting. A diet is where you make temporary changes and then you stop the diet and you gain it all back. You have to make a life long commitment. That doesn't mean making a commitment to starving yourself. Eating healthy isn't eating 1,200 calories, starving yourself, and always thinking about food. Eating healthy to me is avoiding soda, things like pizza, fatty snacks like potatoe chips, and other things you know aren't healthy. But you can have treats every once in a while. Being happy is healthy too. So don't make everything OFF LIMITS. Just have them as a very special treat. I don't really know when I started excersising, dieting, and losing some weight. It all slowly developed. It wasn't all at once. I never made a promise to myself. I just kept adding on to it and it kinda snowballed. So you might just want to keep it simple at first and it might be easier to refuse things then it used to. Then add to it... Well hopefully this book will help you out a little, lol. I'm not the kind of person that says"YOU CAN DO IT, DON'T GIVE UP." I already know you can do it. Anyone can. It is just very hard to do. But if you have the right mindset and willpower, you will be successful. Good luck!! :) |

I guess your right... But I do think 3 months do a lot of hurting. What if I just started eating frozen pizzas for lunch, hot pockets whenever I want, and ate at fast food places every few days thinking it's all ok, forgeting about calories and thinking it's not going to affect me at all? I just don't get it. Maybe i need a step by step on how to stop counting calories without feeling guilty or out of control... Like I can't change what I've been doing for the past 5 months instantly. That's tough. |

I thought running everyday was bad for your knees and stuff? Like 8 miles Is a lot to be running isn't it? Every mile I think burns about 100 calories. So you burn 800+ calories a day and eat only 1,500 calories? Dude, eat more. I'm no expert but I think you need to be eating AT LEAST 2,100 calories. Especially since you are not trying to lose weight right? You should probably be having 2,600 calories to maintain and I would suggest finding another form of exercise because I heard running like that really often is really bad for the joints... |

I don't really worry about it, I just kind of feel guilty or something... My doctor said 2,600 or more because he said I am probably burning 600 or more calories from my workout but I think I am only burning like 450. Because it isn't that hard. I got used to it. I mean, I get tired and feel a little out of breath, but not like I do if I were to go run. I don't get how you can stop counting calories without going a little out of control. If I were to stop counting calories I would be worried. It's not that hard to count calories for me. On a lot of things I guestimate or just look at the serving size and base it off of that. It's not stressful for me like it is for a lot of other people, it just helps me keep on track... |
