Oh thanks :-), feel a bit more at ease now. I love eggs, especially for breakfast, they are just such a good protein/fat source.

I couldnt possibly just live on one egg a week!

Health & Support Anyone tried Reiki? Jan 12 2012

I`m trained in Reiki, I think its a lovely and very relaxing experience. I would definitely recommend giving it a try, it leaves you with such a warm and calming feeling, by the end of the session you just feel so content.

When I was at my worst with my ed, I went for Reiki sessions. It was the only time I could actually totally relax and just get some peace. It didnt cure me but it most certainly helped.

Well your probably nibbling on stuff because your hungry due to a lack of proper meal structure?

I also find when I get really tired, I get insomnia as well I tend to get quite hungry. When your tired, you get hungry, your body wants energy and so off you`ll go and try and find some sources of fuel.

I wouldnt worry about eating some oranges and apples, although I know that is easier said than done. Take it from someone whos binged on a lot worse, that really wont make much of a difference to you, might just give your digestive system a little rev up!

The thought of eating normally and proper structured meals and snacks is always going to be pretty scary. I was terrified when I got my first proper meal plan but the best choice you can make is just throw yourself into it and do it. You`ll soon realise its not as bad as you had imagined it would be.  I spent years worrying I'd never be normal or able to normally again because I couldnt bring myself to do it and forgot the patterns/behaviours I'd learned. With a bit of effort though and determination, things all just fell into place themselves. I still struggle ALOT but it is also alot easier.

What I am trying to say is, get the help you need, immerse yourself into recovery and go for it, it will be worth it in the end. It will all work out if you keep trying.

I`m not taking any meds at all but I am very stressed all the time and do get pretty depressed, also recovering from an ED.

I knew those things would affect it but Ive been like that for years and years, I guess I was kinda hoping since they are starting to improve that this would as well.

She didnt have to lose weight for that, they did it through CGI aparently. It was very realistic though.

I`ll admit I read this post yesterday morning before I actually went to see it and I thought I had got to the stage where skinny girls dont trigger me anymore. However, I found it triggering...I dont know why but something in my head watching it brought back little pangs of wanting my older anorexic self back. Hasnt last though but yeah Id be careful if you are easily triggered.

While it may come across as rude sometimes I think having someone just come out and be blunt and say what they think actually helps.

Quite often in an eating disorder you are clueless as to how you really appear and how disordered you might be and it takes someone from the outside to tell you the truth.

I remember standing in a shop once and a man turned around to me and told me to order a beef pasty because I certainly needed it, he said I looked so ill. The woman behind the till was looking at him as if to say, how dare you say that. I am on the other hand could have hugged him because it opened my eyes and made me realise that I wasnt as normal as I thought I was.

I used to log my food into the tracker and found it can be very obsessive. You can easily get caught into a cycle of calculating protein content, calories etc, which in turn prevents you from truely eating what you desire at times.

I find the forums helpful at times but sometimes reading about people with eds can really keep me stuck I think. I decided recently to take a break from reading the forums etc and to be honest I`m finding a little bit of a difference. Reading about all these obsessive calories counting and about eds seemed to normalise it to me and its not normal.

Focus on eating a good healthy diet thats balanced but also eat the unhealthy stuff as well, avoiding it will just lead to binging.

Wwhy dont you just try maybe for a week taking a break and seeing if you notice a difference?

the only thing I can suggest is getting back on track the next day. That was my huge mistake this week I never managed to get back on track properly and so it continued.

Today I drew the line, whats done is done and for the sake of trying to regain control Im trying my hardest to get back onto my usual plan.

I really love porridge but I do not like it at all when you make it with water, it just tastes so bland.

I make mine with milk it really does make a big difference, tastes much better.

Health & Support Hospital BMI Feb 14 2011

Im not sure about an exact bmi maybe someone else would know more about that. I think you need to take into consideration the mental state of the patient. You could have someone at a bmi of 16 but who just couldnt cope outside a hospital environment and wouldnt get better if left in the community and then you can have someone at bmi 13 who really wants to get better and with the right support could manage it outside a hospital environment.

So I dont think it just comes down to bmi, although the lower your bmi is the more complications there are physically with the refeeding process.

Id be careful with that, you can end up having too much potassium, I wouldnt go by what cc says. The best way to check your potassium levels would be to get a blood test done, see what they really are and then ask your doctor about what yo take if you need to.

The only way to know is to try them, different tablets work for different people. Personally they didnt do a thing for me but I've also tried almost every sleeping aid on boots shelves and none have helped me!

My doctor said that apparently Nytol works for a lot of people.

I know you said you eat regularly throughout the day but are you eating good substantial meals and snacks? Make sure they are, make sure your getting enough fat in your diet, it helps with feeling full.

Maybe if after you make a meal and you still feel hungry wait 30mins and then if your still hungry go get a proper snack, take it away from the kitchen and sit down and properly eat it. Maybe try doing something like that?

Ive read wasted, it was definately an interesting read, worth checking out, although some people find it triggering apparently.

Ive heard a lot of people talk about this book by Portia, I've never heard of her before. Did she go through the binge/purging during recovery? Was it quite a big part of her illness?

Thanks guys, your right. I really really want to just be free of this illness, rid of whatever form it takes and just be normal. So I should just focus on not being an anorexic anymore, not being a bulimic but just being me.

I dont know if this is anything to do with it but I never felt like I belonged in a group growing up at school or anything and always tried so hard just to get a friend and feel like I belonged somewhere, so I supose in a way at the minute because I dont feel like I belong in a specific ed catgeory I feel a little lost. I`m just going to focus on starting to be me again, no ed labels attached, I am what I am.

I find drinking strong black tea generally helps me a little if I feel nauseous or even sometimes if I feel sick eating something can actually help, maybe try something simple like some toast?

At the end of the day, one day isnt going to matter to much, we all get sick and have our off days.

Health & Support binging my way back up..help please! Jan 27 2011

Are you getting any help psycologically? Binging can become a learned behaviour and its a really difficult one to tackle.

I understand how you feel about the hunger signals being messed up etc, I feel the same as well. I have an extremely similar background to you. How is your eating generally throughout the day? For me it really helps if I have a structured day of eating, like 3 meals, 3 snacks, at good intervals, not letting myself get hungry etc. Try to make sure that your getting a good balance of all the food groups, e.g. dont cut back on fat. Also make sure that you satisfy your cravings, if you really crave something then have it.

It can be tricky keeping food in the house, I used to struggle because Id stock up my cupboards with lots of different things because I worried what if I fancied having something and I didnt have it in the house. As you can guess the cupboard gets rapidly emptied. To overcome this I drew a weekly plan with my dietitian, so I specify exactly what my meals and snacks are for each day. Ive found this has really been working for me. It means I know exactly what to buy, I can plan for just a day or two at a time so its damage limitation really. It also helps me include a better variety in my diet because I started to get stuck in a rut with my food.

Maybe you could try something similar. Plan a couple of days worth of meals and snacks, only keep in your cupboards the food you need and so if you dont have a huge stock of food you dont have as much to binge on if the urge happens.

I hope some of that helps, its such an awful cycle to get stuck in and it can really get you down but it  is workable, takes alot of effort but it can be done :-)
