| The Lounge | at what age did you begin to feel old? | Dec 31 2007 21:35 (UTC) |

Original Post by coffeelover2000: Awww, definitely that!!! It kills me that someone could make it all the way through medical school and residency and a couple years of practice and STILL be younger than me. I really felt old when I saw a picture of myself at my mom's birthday party. She was turning the age that I am now (29). I remembered being that little and now I know what it's like to be that old. Having friends that are teachers also does that, especially high school teachers. |

I feel like in high school being a cutter was the norm, or at least it wasn't at all frowned upon. That was never what I was into though. I have one tattoo, a not great looking flower that I got on my 16th birthday forever ago. At the time I definitely thought of it as the first of a lot of tattoos, but I haven't gotten any more. I think about new tattoos all the time and have some ideas, but I don't know where to put them. I've had my tongue pierced twice. Left nostril has been pierced for years. And I've been stretching my ears recently. They've been at 4ga for a couple of weeks but aren't healing great, I think I moved up from 6ga a little bit too soon. I have enormous earlobes and I thought making the holes bigger might make them look more in proportion, but I think they might just be even more fleshy. |

I really liked the Omnivore's Dilemma, it was a great cross between foodie culture and dietary politics. It has really helped me to look more at where my food is coming from, which unfortunately is a whole lot more difficult than I thought. |

No, I don't think so. There's no way in a million years you could get me to shoot anything, overpopulation or otherwise. Why would I possibly want to do that? Ok, maybe apocalyptically for zombie survival or something I could turn survivalist, but generally it's against my nature. There aren't any deer in the city. If I lived in a suburb that had taken over or crowded out a place where deer used to live, maybe I'd think it was my responsibility to get rid of them. But that's a pretty slippery slope. Once you think of the deer as pests do you become responsible for killing and eating all sorts of other pests? |

If it were me, I'd put it right in front of the vending machine in my office lobby. Just trying to help. |

Recently I've been called a vegetable freak a few times by different types of people in my life and it makes me beam with pride. I know that I've been eating a lot more vegetables, but I hadn't realized that it was so noticeable. My husband credited me with getting him to eat and like all sorts of vegetables that he hated before, and that makes me feel good too. Are healthy eaters a subculture?

| That just makes me feel terrible. Does she think that diet choices are an ok reason to be so rude? Sounds purely defensive and insecure. I think you need to either let it go, or point out just how obnoxious it is to call someone a cow. Comments like that have nothing at all to do with your food choices. It's personal. | |||

Philly is definitely a fat loving town. We'll deep fry and drizzle anything with Wiz. I gave up the steaks and turned veg a long time ago, but I still hit up Gianna's for a vegan cheesesteak a couple times a year. Best: Pat's Most repulsive looking/stinky: Jim's on South |

| You never said what kind of hair you have. That's going to make a huge difference too, right? If you've got any wave to your hair I'd advise against bangs. They work for some people, but if they don't it's really horrible to grow them back out. The texture of your hair is more important than your face shape in my opinion. That's what will determine what you can pull off. | |||
| Foods | Beer is good! not. | Nov 16 2007 19:15 (UTC) |

| Drink heavier beer. Seriously. If you go out and drink 2-3 pints of Guinness you probably won't go home hungry. Light beer goes down like water, tastes awful and leaves you feeling bloated and hungry. And the heavier ones aren't significantly greater in calories, at least not compared to additional boxes of cereal and slices of pizza. | |||

| You may also want to take a closer look at the portion sizes that you're logging. I've found that over the course of my time on this site they have grown significantly and it looks like I'm eating more calories, but really I just wasn't calculating the right amounts. When I first started I'd have days where I thought I ate 800-900 calories, but in reality I'm sure they were more like 1,300-1,400. | |||

was128 - That's what I thought, so far no one I visit has one! Weird. coach-k - You don't think they'd find that a little strange? I think if I were really overweight, or if my doctor had suggested that I lose, then that would definitely be an option. But I'm trying to maybe lose 5 pounds. I guess I could call and ask. Maybe they know of somewhere I could go. kajikit - I think that would kill me, do you buy less at the store? |

Thought this might be useful to some people. It's a whole website of brand name products that are vegan. This might be very helpful to new vegans who aren't sure what they can and can't just grab off a shelf at the grocery store. |

For me it happened pretty naturally over time. I still like some horrible foods, but a large majority of things I used to find thrilling just seem sort of disgusting. I'm short sighted, if you put spinach and broccoli in front of me for too long, I forget that bean burritos ever existed. |

| I am fighting off a peanut butter craving right now. There was a time when I used to sneak into the PB jar a couple of times in a day, but I stopped buying it for awhile and now there's been a jar in the cupboard that I haven't illegally gotten to since I bought it. It's a really hard one because there's no substitute. | |||
| Weight Loss | Officially, in CC-speak, what is a "BINGE"? | Oct 25 2007 19:55 (UTC) |

Original Post by hockeygirl44: Best short description so far I think. It's certainly relative, definitely primarily emotional in content and something I'm fighting off right now by spending time in these forums instead of counting my change and running downstairs to the vending machine. It would only be one item because I cleared out my change purse yesterday, but because it's such a craving I'd still consider it a binge. Here's to hoping I won't have to. |
