Foods Slow cooking receipes for beef pot roast? Help! Aug 12 2009

I'm cooking a chuck roast right now in my crock pot. Easy meal. I don't like it enough to eat it but my husband likes it and it's easy. I put the meat in there, cover it with water, add some onions and that's about it. They sell dry packets of seasoning made for pot roast in the crock pot or some people use onion soup mix. I've found if I use chuck roast it's pretty flavorful on it's own but that's me, good luck.

sounds good too! Lemon and Lime curds are good, I wouldn't have thought to use it that way.

Junior mints are a little better than some of the options. Half of their big box is 170 cals. If possible, give away at least half the box to friends before you start to eat them. What I hate is that I've usually eaten all my goodies before the movie starts-stupid previews!

My daughter weighed 11 lbs! No meds at all. My ugly belly though is more from years of weighing over 270 lbs. 303 was my highest. I've lost over 70 lbs. but I swear the emptier it gets the worse it looks! I know there will be no fix without a scalpel but my hubby still loves me far as I can tell and I can cross my legs now so oh well.

ewwxroflzz, I eat oatmeal as a snack or for dinner sometimes too. Feels like a treat!

I eat kashi heart to heart cereal mixed with fiber one every day for breakfast except Sundays when my hubby makes bacon and eggs with hash browns or pancakes for breakfast. He's making it right now and the smell is calling me. Yum! Gotta go eat!!

trying to get back to losing, so I'm back here after a few months away. I can't wait to see the scale move again!

Today my goals are:

No diet soda

20 crunches

15 min walk

a few extra trips up and down my stairs and to dance while I do chores and to jump during commercials.

here's to more losing! 68lbs gone, 40 or so to go!

I used to live on fast food. At least five times a week. Now I truly don't like it that much. The burgers taste so salty! Havn't had a full size burger from fast food in over a year, amazing!

In a perfect world I would eat lean meats, fruit, and veggies and leave everything else alone. How healthy I would be. Why is it so incredibly hard to do that? I eat too much of both artificial and non artificial sweetners (think diet sodas as well as small [but frequent] portions of desserts-tootsie pops, yum!) I know all that sugar is bad for me and fake food is bad. At least I no longer live on fast food!

I do think we are too easily led to buy crap that has no nutritional value. I do try to think of what I eat in terms of what nutrition it gives me rather than just how many calories it has.

I read in a magazine today that I should trade a half cup of peanuts for a half cup of pretzels in order to cut calories. Now a half cup of peanuts is too big of a portion, but would it not be better to eat a quarter cup  of peanuts and forget the pretzels which have no nutrition whatsoever? At least peanuts have healthy fat and protien.

when I need to get back on track I give myself a day of eating healthy and eating more than I need but till I am satifsfied. When I gain, I usually have begun to add a bit extra here and there, often things that are sweet. For me just the day of not worrying about amounts but focusing on getting lots of nourishing food seems to make me more relaxed and gets me out of that deprived feeling mode. It seems counterintuitive, but give it a try. It works for me. Hope that helps.

Sorry jenn, I don't feel I can do any scolding as I have also been a non exerciser lately. I have had plenty of time too. I've just been lazy. I always look forword to being off from work, but then when I am off I get very little done and actually get a bit depressed-stupid.

My weight this morning was 245 (no matter how many times I got on and off the stupid scale, lol!). I'm trying not to be bummed. Stupid, stupid scale, wrecking my day.

Okay I'm over it.

Hope you all have a good New Year's Eve. This will be the first time I stay up till midnight (if I do) for new years since 2000. I usually sleep right through it which suits me fine actually.

See ya'll next year, I hope. Are we still going to be here cuz I guess the challenge is over?

5'7" here and a size 11. I hate it! I buy mens sneakers because they always fit better than womans. Heels are really hard because if they have 11's they still often don't fit because my toes are long and my feet are wide. My feet do NOT come to a point!

I know there are lots of women with big feet so why do they make so few shoes for us????!!!!!

CW: 242

+1 pound

Oh well. At least we are about done with the holidays although my sister is planning to have my other sister and I over for New Years so I guess one more day of excess.

I really need to get my butt up and work out. I have been really tired the last few days.

Good going vk, glad those inches are coming off! I can't find my measuring tape, grrr.

Coach thanks for the suggestion to read that thread, it was good. I might print it up and give it to a gal at work who has been wanting to lose and has been asking me about what I'm doing.

How you doing jenn?

No more excuses, I'm off to the gym!

Merrry Christmas All!

We do most of our festivities on Christmas eve so today is somewhat anticlimactic. Hubby is installing the under the cabinet TV/radio/DVD player that he bought me for the kitchen, yay!

I ate a LOT of sugar yesterday and put on what looks like 3 pounds but it is okay. I need to get back on track though for sure. We are having my sister over for a prime rib dinner today, but after that I can get back to normal.

I don't want to know how many sugar cookies I ate yesterday. Too many. yikes. Just one day though.

My daughter is home from college and she is all excited because it just started snowing! Not very normal for here so it's pretty neat.

One of my bus kid's parent who doesn't speak English wished me ,"Happy Merry Christmas". I like that. Kind of a double whammy!

So, HAPPY, MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

Vk, I'm so glad I'm not alone! I do that too. I know it's goofy, but it makes me crazy that the dang thing will change sometimes!

last week weight: 244.5

CW: 241

lost: 3.5

Hope it sticks after today, yikes! I had Ruby Tuesday for lunch and while I cut it in half when it came and stuck it in a to go box, I had some of my sisters birthday ice cream. And two pieces of a absolutely yummy dessert that I'm not even going to describe. It was obscenely good and just reading about it would make you all gain 5 lbs! And pizza for dinner, although that was only about 400 cals by my best guess.

jenn, I can't even wrap my brain around that much exercise, good lord girl, you go!

coach, you did really great this week, especially with all those temptations, wow!

CONGRATS VK!!!!! Wow, I can't wait to get there too. You are doing so great! So what size did you start at?

I tried on a top from the misses sizes the other day and was pretty excited that I could wear the size xl. It didn't fit great but it was still pretty cool.

I'll have to check out that challenge too. It would be pretty cool if we all joined so we can stay together.

That was good of you to spare the teacher. I almost brought the candy to my mom and sister but they both want to lose weight too.

That breakfast kept me full until 4 o'clock this afternoon. I had some of my homemade pizza for dinner tonight. Whole wheat crust with lowfat mozzorella and veggies.

If it was me, I'd go for the pecan cluster!

Wow vk, good for you! 70 mins is great! So do tell, did you eat the pecan cluster?

I've been getting tempted plenty at my work too. The parents of some of my preschoolers, bless their hearts, have been giving me gifts of chocolate. Yesterday was tough. I did have a few pieces but I gave most of it away. I had to drive 30 mins. with a big hershey bar next to me and I was hungry. I waited till I got back and had a small piece and left the rest for everyone else. It was really sweet of the parents and it always makes me feel good to have them give me gifts, but I tell you, giving away that dove candy was sure hard!

Guess I did okay yesterday cuz I lost a couple pounds, finally! We had our breakfast at work today and I tried to go easy. Sure hope it doesn't set me back!

Hope everyone is doing well.

hmm, don't have any tips for hubby slimming. My husband eats a LOT of food but he has a physical job and he lifts weights and runs almost daily. He really doesn't look like a runner though, even though he can run 5 miles without too much trouble. He has a pretty good size gut which expands and shrinks an amazing amount with the food he eats, gas etc.

Food is not as important to him as it has always been to me. Although if I don't have his dinner ready for him it suddenly becomes very important, oh boy! I introduced him to the wonderful world of sweets for the most part. He learned to like all the crazy ice cream flavors that he once shunned in favor of chocolate chip or vanilla.

So I know how to fatten them up but not how to slim them down!

I almost always eat something different for dinner than what I fix for him because he wants a heavy meal at night. The man can sit and eat at one meal : two large steaks, two potatoes, 3 ears of corn and half of a watermelon, not kidding. That's not everyday though. He is 5' 8"  and weighs 235 lbs and has a ton of muscles. He's an interesting guy.

Sorry for babbling, I got to go fix the guy his Monday night meal of 2 big hamburger patties and big pile of ww noodles (he is into being healthy-those were his idea) with alfredo sauce (from a jar of course). I guess the alfredo sauce cancels out the healthiness of the noodles?

WTG knit! Sounds like you did great! It's a trip how those few bites of dessert can taste so wonderful and actually satisfy. I have really made progress in that area and it's great because I get to enjoy the foods that I love and still lose weight, yipee!!

That was my hubby who has lost weight. He didn't want to believe it at first either.  It's because we also don't go out to eat as much or like today we went to Subway where in the past we would have gone and gotten something fattening and dessert as well. I don't bake cookies anymore either which was a constant thing before.

Wow jenn!  I grew up in CA and now live in OR where a couple inches of snow can close the schools and a few more can bring everything to a halt. So really I'm not familiar with a real snowstorm. How long do you think you will be stuck?
