Hey, I'm a sophomore in college and I gained 15 pounds my freshman year( I know very typical), but I lost most of it the second semester/summer. So I can give you some tips I wish I wouldve known starting out at college. Youre going to eat out A LOT. You may not think so, with a meal plan and such, but after a few weeks of eating at the cafeteria, youll get sick of that food. Plus, going out to dinner is a huge social atmosphere for most college students. Try to stay away from fast food, and resturant food, try to order a salad or sandwich, or only eat half if you get something else. Try to log your calories everyday. Not so much for calorie counting but more for the portion control. If you eat the serving size youll be fine, but if you dont pay attention, youll easily consume a bag of chips totalling 700 calories in one study session. Use the school gym or do something active for at least 30 minutes a day. Join an intramural sports team, or just walk or bike to class. Even the littlest bit of exercise helps. No soda/pop/coke whatever you call it. Drink water or lemonade instead, especially at resturants youll save money AND calories! Get a decent amount of sleep before classes. Plan your time out well. Don't cram. This will help alleviate stress and sleep ALWAYS helps you lose weight. Don't forget breakfast. It jumpstarts your metabolism. Hopefully this helps. I sure wish I would've known this before I came to college.

You're actually in the "healthy" range according to the BMI (body mass index) calculator. but I totally understand wanting to get thinnier, I do and I'm "healthy". You're about 2-3 inches taller than me and I am 150 trying to get down to 140 at first, then try for 130 my ultimate goal. I would aim for 140. Every inch you should add 5 pounds from 5 feet for example 5'1" would be 105. So 5'9" would actually be 145, so I would go the lowest 140. You have to remember you are tall, so some of your shorter friends may be 120, but 120 on you would be anoerxic looking(in my opinion) I looked up your calorie target and goal date. I wasn't sure of the activity level, I put light just in case, you didn't really exercise, but being that tall, I figured you might be into basketball or volleyball? Anyways, your calorie target is 1680 a day and you should reach your goal of 140 by December 27, 2009. I know thats a long ways away but you are young and should NOT try any drastic weight loss methods. I know 1680 seems like a lot, but if you actually calculate your calories on any given day, they're probably over 2000 easily, so this would be a decrease which would help you lose 1 - 2 pounds a week. I would hope that you would do some form of exercising at least 3 times/ 30 mins a week. This will help build muscle tone(its a good thing) and you will look thinnier even if you dont lose weight. (Muscle weighs more than fat) I've been doing this for the past 3 years on and off. I started when I was around your age and weighed about 135, but college made me gain it back :( The hardest part is motivating myself. But I can offer you some "success" tips that have helped me. Don't focus too much on the numbers on the scale, see how your clothes are fitting as well. Eat the serving size, not how much you want. The labels are tricky and usually make you eat about 2 times the serving amount which means more calories. Don't get discorouged if you hit a "plateu". It happens to everyone, so join the club. Focus on legs. Work them out by running, biking, and jumping rope(it works). Youre so tall that youll have model looking legs in no time. You're only 15. Don't make this your life. Instead make it a healthy lifestyle. Don't obsess over calorie counting. If you have a bad day, don't try to make up for it by starving yourself. Work out harder the next day and eat the amount of calories youre supposed to. Good luck! If you need any advice, feel free to message me. -Kristina |

I am about 149 and 5'7" (last time I weighed) so I consider myself 150. I still shop in "teen" stores which means the sizes are a bit different. Maybe not. Anyways I was a 5/6 in most stores but those jeans are getting too tight now. I am prob more of a 7/8 now. I know most of my weight is on my thighs and hips so that is why my sizes have gone up. |

Well, I know I am not pregnant so I dont have to worry about that lol I drink lots of coffee(more than usual) so I am looking to cut back on that. Coffee sometimes gives me gas, no heartburn though. Its the bottom part of my tummy thats big. Not quite a muffin top but still I am worried it may become one. I started exercising yesterday (bike riding and easy ab exercises) and I am already starting to feel so much better. My tummy hasnt made much of a difference yet, but I am optimistic that it wil go back down. Thanks for everyone's help! |

I'm 5'7" and weigh about 149 (the last time I weighed in at Publix with clothes on about 1 1/2 weeks ago. Two to three years ago I was around 133 and loved it. I def put on more muscle weight but there is def some flab around my thighs and belly areas. I know I am not at all fat, but I would like to go back down to around 135 again, by eating healthy and toning up. MY ultimate weight goal would be 120/125 area. I wanna be skinny, not just average. But for now, I am aiming to get toned and in the 135 area. Just taking it one goal at a time. By September: 140 (9lbs in a month and a half? I think I can do it) By November/December: 135 and very toned! By 2010: 130 :) |

we are really similiar! I am 5'7 and my highest has been 155 and lowest (in the past year and a half) is about 140. I lost prob about 10 lbs since January 155-145, but have gained back about 5ish pounds maybe more! since beginning of May. I have the hardest time motivating myself. I will go from being super motivated, eating healthy and exercising every day to sitting on the couch being a lazy bum and eating ice cream like there is no tomorrow! For me, making a schedule that I follow pretty strictly helps me stay on track. But not being at school, its hard especially being summer! I try getting in any exercise that I can (choosing stairs, parking far away, doing abs in the morning) and eating as healthy as I can (no soda, less fast food, no fried/greasy foods, like choosing a salad over cheeseburger). But there is always everyones downfalls (dunkin donuts coffee, desserts, watching tv) that is hard to get motivated past. I def need to get more motivated, just like you. Good luck getting motivated! |

| Weight Loss | My husband Loves to eat out.... | Jun 02 2009 17:48 (UTC) |

When you go out to eat, look up nutritional info online before you go. For example, my boyfriend is taking me to Cheesecake Factory for my birthday tonight. Normally, I would just get whatever I wanted, without thinking. But, after gaining some pounds, I am trying to be more careful with what I eat. So, I am going to look up online, so I know ahead of time, what I can get and what it will cost me. Here are some tips for eating out, to make sure you do not mess up your weight loss -Don't starve yourself the whole day before you go out to eat. Eat smaller meals with protein and fruits and veggies. -Order water with your meal instead of coke. A coke and a refill racks up to 500 calories, and thats just the drink!!! Water is free of calories and free of price! -Order a small side salad, or healthy soup before your meal. This will fill you up and make sure you don't go overboard. -Split your meal in half before you start eating. Save half for another day dinner, and eat the other half (slowly). -Choose grilled instead of fried, salad dressing on the side instead of on top, soup/salad instead of bread, side of veggies instead of fries, water instead of coke, etc Good luck trying to deal with going out to eat a lot, I'm in the same boat as you! |

personally, i think that you are at the "perfect" weight for your size, and you should just work on maintaining it, which you are pretty much doing now. but, if you want to see minimal changes like with your body, you can try different exercises to maybe gain some muscle weight, which will in turn make you seem more fit and toned, which will make you look skinnier. for example, i was on a plateu for a LONG time, and it really frustrated me, bc i worked out a lot and ate healthy every day. but, i started getting compliments about how great i looked and people asking me if i lost weight even though i was around the same weight for a month! so it turns out muscle weighs more than fat thing is true, because even though i wasnt losing weight on the scale, i was gaining muscle weight and losing fatty weight so hopefully that helps you maybe :) oh and i got over that plateu thingie after a few weeks, just keep it up! your obviously doing something right |

wow I definitely hit a plateu for about 3 weeks from late January to mid February. It sucked, I felt like I was going nowhere. I was eating healthy and in the right calorie range, and exercising daily. I was at 150 forever!!! But I figured out that I was losing fat but gaining muscle. I ran 2 miles everyday and worked out my arms or legs switching off everyday. So, even though I was not "losing" weight on the scale, I gained muscle which weighs more than fat! So I still felt like I was losing weight, because I was beginning to look more toned. After the past 3 weeks, of not exercising as much, and eating a little more, I am losing weight slowly but surely. I will get back to exercising almost every day and I'm sure that will help me become more healthy. So a plateu isn't always a bad thing, it seems like its your body's way of readjusting to the weight loss and maybe even building up some muscle tone! Good luck |

Dont worry youre not the only one! Ive been experiencing this ALL week! The cravings for brownies and anything chocolate or packed with sugar, I want to eat so bad! (and I do often slip) I definitely gained weight this week (after I just lost about 3 pounds over Spring Break. I just tell myself its bloating, it will be over in a few days and my weight (and cravings) will go down soon. I just try to go back to my normal diet with no brownies involved. |

Ah the weekends totally screw me up too! And whenever I go home on break I go out to eat a lot on the weekends and cant seem to find time for the gym or to go running...also with Spring Break coming up, that will be hard to eat healthy as well excersise at least 5 times that week... SO, hopefully I can keep it up over spring break and get down to 145 soon after! My primary motivation? Pretty much I just want to look good, so I'll think about what I'm going to eat and THINK about it..hmm will this make me look good by June? What triggers you to get to the gym? I plan out my days and include the gym, and make sure I go...if I don't I feel really guilty afterwards. On the weekends, I don't plan out my day, I usually lounge around in the mornings and do something in the afternoon/nights so by the time I get back, I just wanna go to sleep :( " " to eat right? Write down EVERYTHING I eat...usually if I eat something bad, I'm ashamed that I ate it, and don't want to write it down, so next time I'm less likely to eat that because I remember I don't want to write it down. |
