The Lounge angelina jolie has preventative double mastectomy May 15 2013

My cousin had an elective full hysterectomy and double mastectomy with reconstruction. Her maternal grandmother, 2 maternal aunts, and her mother all died before the age of 50 from breast cancer.

My cousin had malignant tumors removed from her uterus which ended up returning. Because of the family history of breast cancer, and her own personal history with reproductive cancer, it was basically a given she would eventually get breast cancer - 0ver 95% according to her doctor.

Initially she opted for extensive monitoring via mammograms every 3 months. When the tumors returned she opted for the surgery. In her words, the stress of waiting for mammogram results felt like it was killing her.

Hmm.. how is the BB cream coverage?  I usually don't use much (I have a loreal one now I use once and a while) and then cover over with bare minerals if I feel I need more coverage.  I just worry as I have oily skin that is prone to clogged pores, but REALLY would love a bb cream with SPF!  I'll have to ask for a sample.

I find the coverage to be enough for me, but I guess it's specific to the person. I think it covers better than other tinted moisturizers I have tried, with a nicer finish.

I switched from tinted moisturizer to Smashbox BB Cream and I absolutely love it!

http://www.sephora.com/camera-ready-bb-cream- spf-35-P300339?country_switch=ca&SKUID=13 87000&om_mmc=GooglePLA-can&_requestid =42976&ci_src=204278644&ci_sku=138700 0&site=ca_search

Even though it is SPF35 it is not greasy/oily and smooths out your skin. I have pretty good skin tone so it works well for me. I highly, highly recommend. It's a little pricey ($50 at Sephora in Canada) but a little goes a long way. Prior to this I was using Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer but I found that it had a dewy finish which I wasn't the hugest fan of. If you go in to a Sephora they will happily give you a good-sized sample of any product you would like to try (usually about a week's worth of daily wear). I did this before settling on the Smashbox BB cream.

Cleanser: Cetaphil Gentle (morning); Clinique Rinse Off Eye Makeup Remover and Live Clean Facial Wipes (night/after gym.....sometimes. I suck at washing my face at night)

Philosophy Hope in a Jar moisturizer (LOVE) and Benefit It's Potent! eye cream (also love this).

MAC undereye lightening primer

Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream

MAC Mineralize Powder on top using a kabuki brush

Makeup - MAC brow pencil, Urban Decay Naked palette, MAC eyeliner, Maybelline Great Lash Mascara; Benefit blush (love them all - especially Bella Bamba and Dandelion), MAC Bronzer, Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Balm - absolutely love this product. I LOVE makeup and can definitely recommend products to anyone who is interested :)

I am 27, with sensitive, fair skin and very minimal breakouts. I used to barrage it with acne-treating products in my early 20's which actually caused me to break out even more. Once I switched to a gentle cleanser my skin completely cleared up.

Foods How to tell if pomegranates have gone bad? Nov 02 2010

In addition to flat or discoloured areas, the presence of any flat spots usually mean portions of it have gone bad. Other than that, you want to find the largest, reddest and heaviest pomegranate to get the most "best" seeds.

Yeah I caught that medication bit too but thought I was maybe just hearing things!

I'm also curious about Maci and Nashville boy. Although those clips may have just been edited from a hypothetical conversation they were having.

Weight Loss Not eating breakfast? Sep 30 2010

If I eat 400 balanced calories (protein, carbs, fat, fiber) I stay full and satisfied for way longer than if I eat 400 calories of something like cereal and milk. So, it could just be what you are eating.

Some breakfasts that work for me: plain yogurt + fruit + Kashi cereal; 1-2 eggs, whole wheat toast, fruit; oatmeal + fruit + nuts + milk; english muffin with PB and banana, etc.

Everyone is different, so try find something that works for you. It doesn't even have to be breakfast food. I just find for me that empty carbs with sugar, artificial sweeteners, and fat-free dairy products do not keep me full. I also can't stomach food immediately after waking up, so I wait one hour until I get to work.

Numerous studies have found that breakfast eaters have more energy, better moods, and increased cognitive performance in the middle to late morning compared to those who don't eat breakfast, but that is up to you if you feel that those findings are important or affect you in any way.

Haha yeah I laughed at that too. But in all honesty I hope she runs far away from the jailbird, she has enough problems! I think Leah is in the worst situation by far in regards to her home life. Amber is definitely my least favorite on the show. I think she has some serious problems that she needs to get help for. It is one thing to get mad or frustrated, but she is on a whole other level. I've never seen anyone in my life with such a pronounced anger management issue as her.

I think this show does a really great job at protraying their lives and how difficult they are. I think it would even be hard for me to have a baby at this point, and I am 25, graduated, with a professional job, in a committed relationship with another university graduate/professional, and I own a house! I could't imagine being 17, single/custody battle, unemployed/underemployed and trying to raise a baby on my own!

This is making me so nostalgic! I absolutely love reading, even from a very young age. I can remember being in a library program over summer holidays from school and you would keep a log about books you read, etc. I would literally read hundreds of books! Even to this day I still love reading. Before I finished university, I would power through non-text books during Christmas holidays and spring break :-)

Some of my favorites:
Pippi Longstocking series
Little House on the Prairie series
Nancy Drew Series
Sweet Valley Teens/High/University series
Babysitter's Club series

My surgeon told me to wait until "I felt back to normal" meaning that I didn't have any more pain or tenderness.

I'd say in your case 3-4 days would be plenty. But I am not a dentist so if you really want to know, call his/her office and I am sure they will be more than happy to answer any questions you might have.

My surgeon told me to wait a week. I did have a really complicated removal and a lot of blood loss, but regardless of that you don't want to push yourself.

Reasons:
- when you work out you elevate your heart rate which may cause you to start bleeding again
- you could compromise the blood clots, which will cause dry sockets. I had 2 dry sockets and trust me, you do not want this to happen! Without the protective blood clot, the nerves in your jaw are exposed to air, food, water etc. resulting in EXTREME pain for a couple weeks. As in, it was the worst thing I have ever experienced in my life. It radiated to my head, eye sockets, down my neck to my shoulders, etc. And it never goes away. I was on T3's with codiene and Motrin 600 for 3 weeks after surgery. You are also at a much higher risk for infection.
- Weight lifting can cause your stitches to burst, which may allow the blood clot to dislodge and also result in dry sockets.
- Your jaw muscles have been through a major trauma and need time to rest to avoid further injury.

It's not worth it to rush working out. Plus, you are probably not getting proper nutrition to support major physical activity anyways.

Surgery, no matter what kind, is hard on your body. There is nothing wrong with taking a week off of working out to rest.

The Lounge What's your clear-skin secret? Aug 19 2010

My skin is very similar, I'm near the Rockies as well so it is super dry here too.

I've found that the more acne products I used, the worse acne I had.

Also, the worse my acne was, the more makeup I wore, which in turn made it even worse!

I've since switched to Cetaphil and/or Phisoderm which are both very mild, and haven't had a problem since. I massage it in using medium-pressure circles and rinse off. It removes all makeup including mascara which is great too! The only thing it won't remove is waterproof mascara. I also exfoliate a couple of times a week and use a light moisturizer which contains SPF daily. I wash my face immediately after exercise, and I only use powder (no foundation).

My skin looks great. I'm not throwing a barrage of (expensive!) anti-acne products at it anymore so there is less irritation and dryness, and I think that switching from foundation to powder was a good choice.

At first I still felt naked without foundation, but after a little while when your skin clears up it feels much better.

Foods Who Else Grows Their Own Veggies? Jul 20 2010

Plant-wise they seem to be doing ok, but we won't harvest any of them until late August/early September...so now I'm hoping we don't find any wormy potatoes!

We have had very good luck with potatoes the past two years. They grow the best of anything in our garden.

We have a really big garden out at my bf's parent's acreage. It's about 50'x120'. It is bordered by a pasture on 2 sides so it is pretty tough to keep up with the weeds.

We have potatoes (Yukon Gold, red, purple heirloom), peas, beans, lettuce (butter, romaine, green leaf, red leaf, Chicago), spinach, beets (2 kinds), carrots (2 kinds), corn (3 kinds), zucchini, butternut squash, spaghetti squash, pumpkin, watermelon (2 kinds), mixed bell peppers, parsnips, rhubarb, garlic, onions (green, yellow, red) and radish...and I think that's about it. The watermelons and pepeprs are a gamble as our growing season might not be long enough.

We gave a bunch of our plants a headstart in trays and transplanted them at the very end of May...but then we got temperatures barely above freezing for a week at the start of June so we had to start over with a bunch of our veggies. Hopefully we have a long summer this year so they have time to grow!

Fitness HIIT and Asthma Jun 30 2010

I have asthma as well, which is generally only aggravated by outdoor exercise during the spring when everything is pollenating. So needless to say it has been pretty bad lately!

My doctor told me to take 1-2 puffs of my ventalin inhaler ~15 minutes before exercising. I have had really good luck with this and feel much better both during and after my workouts. When I do something cardio intensive I actually feel like I can take a full breath to the bottom of my lungs instead of feeling like I am constantly gasping for air.

I don't know if you use a ventalin-type inhaler prior to exercise, but it is something you can ask your doc about. Maybe it will work for you as well as it has for me.

Your routine looks good to me - keep doing what your lungs are capable of and eventually you should be able to push yourself to the point where you can jog in between your sprints :-)

My boyfriend and I just bought a house so we've been making sure to pack our lunches every day to save money - and we both eat better. I also bring my breakfast because I don't like eating first thing in the morning. It's much better when I have breakfast at work around 7 am rather than 6am. I also have 2 snacks in the afternoon because I have been doing a bootcamp after work.

My typical day - usually aound 1100 cal not including dinner:

Breakfast - 1c. plain fatfree probiotic yogurt mixed with 1c chopped fruit (lately strawberries, grapes, and mandarins) and 0.5 cup cereal (Fibre1 Honey Clusters)

Snack - mandarin orange

Lunch - multigrain wrap or pita stuffed with spinach, tomato, cucumber, bell pepper, chicken breast, pepper jack cheese and dijon mustard

Snack 1 - mixed veggies with hummus (cucumber, bell pepper, celery, cauliflower)

Snack 2 - Banana or 1c cottage cheese mixed with diced tomato

Dinner varies but is always protein, carbs and veggies

Best: waking up and cuddling with my boyfriend who says "I'm so happy I can hold you like this for the rest of my life"  <3

Worst: caving and buying a coffee this morning, even though I know it makes me feel BRUTAL - after a couple weeks without it I always seem to forget how bad it makes me feel :-P

My faves are strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, pinapple, mango, pomegranite, and cherries - none of which are in season in Canada right now :(

We get berries and cherries in season in June/July, and mangos, pineapple and pomegranites don't grow here
