i posted a picture of a couple A days in my profile if that helps. sorry it's tiny. you'll probably have to copy it and paste it into MS paint or some application that allows you to blow it up and see it at 200% or something!

lying is wrong, but i personally think it's ok in those situations to tell these wrong-headed food pushers that you are not hungry or that you already had a piece of cake or two earlier in the day, just to get them off your case. sounds like you are too polite to tell them,"no means no and please mind your own business."

same way i used to tell the telemarketers that i already subscribe to their service (before the no-call list). it was not true, but they somehow never knew that. and shame on them for being so intrusive and pushy.

good for you for treating yourself right and for not giving in to pressure :-)

Fitness Does biking give you big thighs? Jun 03 2010
18:02 (UTC)
15

i think that happens with bike racers (who routinely have large, powerful thighs), but general enthusiasts and commuters rarely develop big thighs from it. it does depend on things like the terrain you cover (hills would probably produce development of bulkier muscles) and your own genetics as to how you put on muscle. mostly i've found that regular cycling gives me more lean muscle and less body fat, without developing bigger thighs and calves.

a few suggestions:

pickled carrots - i like using shredded ones on tacos. they come canned (coin shaped) or you can make your own if you look up carrot escabeche recipes

diced tomatoes

sauteed jalapeno strips

green or red salsa

an egg cooked like a small omelette

shredded cheese

my best tactic is to channel my inner germophobe and convince myself that the stuff that's sitting out has been touched by lots of folks and is probably unsanitary. if i can conjure up an ick-factor based on that, it's pretty easy to avoid anything that's around the office.

i'ts a little silly, but it might work so it never hurts to have it in your bag of tricks.

I'd like to know the answer to this too.

Breathing is hard for me too. When I jog I typically sync it with my footfalls and count it off, 'in-2-3, out-2-3, in-2-3, out-2-3," but i don't know if that's common or bad form or right/wrong.

i would want to die if my dog got lost and i hadn't had her chipped. i've seen too many strays lose their collars and they are left with no ID whatsoever. we had a break-in a few months ago and if my dog had gotten out through the door they kicked in there would have been no way to track her down other than her chip because she was not wearing her collar. i don't think it's creepy at all and i'm not aware of any significant increased cancer risk due to a microchip.

i hope kitty makes a recovery & gets adopted! i don't understand the SPCA wrinkle -seems to me they take donations to help pay for treatment of injured animals and they are always looking for adoptive homes. i say have your supervisor put in an application to adopt Miss Kitty and pool those donations to fund whatever treatment she needs (assuming she's got something treatable).

good luck & good job caring for this lost kitty :-)

Weight Loss So what happens if you hit your calorie intake early in the day? Mar 13 2010
23:43 (UTC)

if I hit my calorie target early in the day I try to stay within maintenance for the day. i think going half a day without eating anything is (1) too difficult, (2) makes me likely to overeat later and (3) isn't great for my body.

Weight Loss gaining weight and losing motivation Mar 12 2010

you've lost almost 20 pounds, so make sure your numbers are still correct and that your maintenance calorie count has not dropped. as you get smaller, those numbers go down. i think the site automatically adjusts, so just be sure to look at the numbers and know that the daily amount you started with will drop as you lose weight.

minda got it right, sometimes there are fluctuations that defy reason or understanding. best not to fret too much with the ups and downs. just keep doing what you're doing, hit the right numbers every day to keep a deficit and it's likely you'll see those "ups" drop off quickly one day with no reason.

i think you picked a really interesting topic. i think sometimes people who don't yet have "real" problems like cancer in their lives lack the perspective to give their weight (and others' weight) the proper priority in life. i know when i was young things like what brand of jeans i wore mattered greatly - but once you see what really matters in life, that perspective and those priorities change dramatically.

have you seen these threads?

How about the picky-eater threads?

You know, the people who want you to come up with 212 calorie dinners for them (containing only protein) because if you add up 2+1+2 it equals 5 and that's their favorite number so that's all they'll eat multiples of.

Answers must be foods with no carbs, no trans fats, no HFCS, no gluten, no nuts, low-sodium, vegan, no GMO, no fruits ("they make me bloated!"), no vegetables ("i HATE them!!"), no soy, no caffeine, high fiber, made in Britain, sold in Canada, taste like chocolate, ... and be phrased in the form of a question.

I totally respect honest food allergies and even individual likes & dislikes, but some of these requests are so torturously complicated it's a wonder folks can find anything to eat at all!

oh, you can resist it. those office cakes are always a disappointment... hollow sugary calories with boring flavor profiles and insanely processed color additives in the frosting that turn your lips and tongue blue or green... save your calorie budget for something more satisfying and delicious.

sometimes folks forget that their bodies are not just something to hang clothes on and look at in the mirror. they are complex organic machines that need care and nutrition and which, unfortunately, are vulnerable to diseases over which we have little control.

your post is a sad and extraordinary reminder of the challenges life can throw our way.  i hope you have the best chances for a full and successful recovery. be well :-)
