| Weight Loss | Does dieting make you miserable? | Mar 26 2009 12:22 (UTC) |

I was restricting my calorioes (1300) and food (only healthy/lots of fiber/not much salt/barely any suagr/etc) when I started dieting and I was miserable! I actually started eating 1500 calories a day of whatever I wanted (of course I keep a few very healthy items in there) and I'm MUCH happier. In this past month I have eaten birthday cake, I had 2 pieces of pizza one day, I had 2 beers another day, I've been eating a small portion of cinnamon toast crunch cereals for breakfast, etc. But at the end of the day - my calories are around 1500! I'm still exercising, and I get to eat whatever I want! On days when I go out to dinner with friends, I exercise 20 minutes longer - or eat healthier in the more in anticipation of a good meal and wine! |

I fortunately (or unfortunately) never had the problem of other overweight people feeling uncomfortable around me because all my friends are freakin super models!!! I hate them sometimes.

This same thing happened to me about 2 weeks ago. I got really sick and actually didn't make it to the gym for 9 whole days!!!!
I only counted my calories on days when I wasn't feeling like complete death. For 2-3 days there, I drank a lot of fluids and pretty much ate whatever I felt like because...well....I was sick and felt like **** so that's what I did. After the sickness and the 9 days without the gym - I still lost 3 pounds!!! |

To update: I have now lost 20 pounds and PEOPLE ARE NOTICING!!! A bunch of people have said stuff like - You look great, you look like you lost weight, nice butt, You look pretty - stuff I have never got in the past few years! It feels sooooo good!!!!! I got really sick last week and didn't go to the gym for 9 days (but still had to waitress after working my day job, and be on my feet for 6+ hours straight which still burns some calories)! But I'm back on track having gone yesterday and today...and I'm feeling good! |

Yup! Not only do they love when I finish a workout, but they also love dirty socks! It's gross, but true. Actually, Big Al (my outgoing cat), waits for me to get out of the shower every single morning. He sits on the toilet, then when I shut off the water - he "yells" at me, and then I step out and he's all over my legs and feet, figure 8's and licking my toes. I hate it but he's so damn cute that I just let it happen! |

I have not tried that specific diet, but I find that fad diets don't work as well and regular diet and exercise. But if you try it and it works for you - let me know! |

Jan 3rd- 177 February 1st- 168.5
8.5 Total pounds in January. After my first 3 weeks where my weight dropped by a lot more than the norm (probably water weight) - I've been steadily loosing 1-2 pounds a week. Yay for dieting and exercising the RIGHT way. No crazy diets, no pills. Just a goal, being healthy, and letting myself eat something "bad" every now and then...cause we all need SOME happiness

Everything the above posts said is true...but also you should expand on how you're eating it. You say it has no taste - so you can buy the low fat or whole kind, but you can also add fruit or veggies to it. I like cottage cheese and fruit cocktail. It's a satisfying snack and low in calories! |

| Weight Loss | 8 pounds in one day is this possible?? | Feb 01 2009 14:26 (UTC) |

It's not possible. I agree with the above post. the alcohol and chinese food have large amounts of sodium which make you retain "stuff" and it won't flush out of burn out of your system for a day or two. I ALWAYS gain 2 -3 pounds after a night out...even if I just have 2 glasses of wine! Two days later - it's gone. Remember, dieting is a slow process. I believe that if you do it correctly AND still want to have fun, you may gain a pound here or there in the process, but as long as you had fun and plan on getting right back on track - it's alright. Don't worry! I'll be drinking tonight as well...and will probably have gained a few pounds by morning!! |

The whole activity level/burn meter/calorie target thing confuses me... I just put sedentary and then log in my gym/sports activities. On days that I hostess or waitress on top of my day job (which is mainly on a computer), I move it to lightly active and still log in my gym/sports activities. |

Oh - and for the fruit on the bottom - that's my husband. He went to the store and I told him to get me some low fat yogurt.
He came back with 20 Dannon fruit on the bottom yogurts! He's learning...and sooo cute.... |

I'm still hungry yes. Those calories add up to about 1335 according to this site. According to CC I should be eating about 1300 calories a day. Yes, I do exercise - about 40 - 60 minutes of cardio, 3-4 times a week. And I need more protein without a lot of carbs. I'm really trying to loose weight the healthy way and I'm finding that I'm always hungry...especially at bed time. |

I know how you feel! I feel sooo guilty after not eating completely healthy one day or mayboe not going to the gym! I just got a 2nd job - I'm hostessing/waitressing at night and I'm not getting out until 10 or 11pm. This past Saturday, I got out of work and was STARVING ( i had only eaten about 900 calories that day so far and it was too busy for me to have any snacks). Well- the staff had pizza in the back and offered me some. I ate two pieces INCLUDING the crust and I was not hungry anymore! Guilty? A little- but the scale says I only gained a pound which can also be muscle or water weight...don't stress. You're supposed to treat yourself one day a week - not by eating a WHOLE pizza- but depriving yourself will do no good... Don't worry. Be happy. |

On days when I don't exercise at all - I'll eat about 1300 calories. But sometimes when I exercise I'll eat about 1600. Maybe I worked out for 2 hours one day - then i might just eat 1800! |

Are you drinking enough water? Are you eating food that are high in sodium? If you're not drinking enough or having too much salt, your body will retain water- and you CAN be loosing actual fat weight, but the scale won't take notice of that because your body will be holding onto the water... |

Yes. I'm one of the people who was "told" by CC that I should eat 1200- not fun...
I eat about 1350 and am losing just fine.

While we're on the topic of clothes fillting/being too tight. I went shopping today. And I'm in between sizes! Isn't that the worst? One size up is too big, and one size down is too small or uncomfortable... Don't you hate being in between sizes while dieting? |

I did your stats (very vaguely as I don't know your age) in the burn meter and you burn about 2500 calories a day - without logging in your exercise. So, subtract 750 from that (in between 500 - 1000) and you get 1750. You can eat 1750 calories a day and definitely lose weight.
So, you are eating between 1000 - 1500 calories a day? Just by being alive you probably burn at least 1500, then add a couple hundred on to that for normal everyday activities like walking, reading, typing, brushing your teeth, driving, laundry, washing dishes, etc. Then add a couple hundred more onto that if you're exercising. Besides that - because you eat the majority of your calories at night, your metabolism is probably out of whack. This is what I do and I've been successful in weight loss so far. I eat about 700-900 calories by dinner time. But not in one sitting. Breakfast is about 200, morning snack (10:30am) is about 50 - 100, lunch is about 200 - 400, and afternoon snack (2pm) is about 50 - 100. Then, if I don't exercise that day I still have about 400 calories left for dinner. If I do exercise (which I normally do everyday) I have about 600 calories left for dinner - that's a good sized meal plus dessert! Your stats are much higher then mine (Im a 25 yr old female, 172lbs, 5'2) - so if that's what I eat in a day, you can a decent amount more then that and still be successful |

Thank you everyone for all your posts!! Funny enough - today I got a couple compliments (all from women) that they loved my sweater! I thought that was strange because I've worn this sweater before and nobody ever said they liked it all the times I wore it in the past!
Before I started dieting, nobody had complimented me on my clothes, shoes, looks, anything for about 2 years (except a few jewlery compliments, but that doesn't count) - the heaviest two years of my life... I think they liked my sweater today because I fit into it better and I'm not slouching trying to hide my chest and stomach because of insecurities? |

You did a good thing by asking for dressing on the side as salads are ALWAYS overdressed. When I go out - I get whatever I want! I make sure I know about how many calories I have left for the day and then I think about how much I would have had before dieting (3 peices of pizza or a whole buger), and then I eat half or less (1.5 pieces of pizza or 1/2 a burger) of what the "fat" me would have wanted. That way you can eat whatever you want really! Not all the time, but you HAVE to have fun! I even calculate in my alcohol and desserts..that way I never feel like I'm a prisoner...
