Weight Loss Cheating on weekends=weigh less?! Mar 30 2010

I don't consider it cheating to treat myself on the weekend. I go by the 80/20 rule: so long as I make healthy choices 80% of the time, the other 20% of the time I can relax and treat myself a little.

Weight Loss at what speed should i be running on a treadmill ? Mar 30 2010

How fast you go doesn't matter, so long as you keep going. :)

It takes time to increase your running speed-you've only been at it for a short time, and you sound like you've come pretty far already. You could try a run/walk workout, walk 3 minutes, run 3 minutes, then walk again and so on. You will find that your running periods start to become longer.

Weight Loss cheat day for me! anyone else cheat/binge? Mar 27 2010

I've lost weight, I've gained weight. The problem I've always had has been with maintenance. Balance is a hard thing to achieve.

And so I now use the 80/20 system. So long as 80% of the time I'm making healthy and nutritious choices, the other 20% is all ahead go for treats and a little slacking.

I'm happy, the scale is happy, and I think I have a better chance of keeping the weight off this time.

Motivation Why do I overeat and not exercise? Mar 24 2010

Try just changing one thing at a time.

Since I take karate, exercise wasn't a problem for me. It was all about the food. Maybe just start with a nice walk after dinner-great for the digestion, too.

I started by cutting out the morning doughnut with my coffee. Once that was a habit I could maintain, I started bringing a lunch to work-skipping meals was a really bad habit of mine. I also figured that since I was going to the trouble of making myself a lunch, it should be a nice, healthy one.

If soft drinks are a problem food, try to gradually swap them out one at a time for water until you're drinking more water or tea than soda.

I figured since it's supposed to be a life change, I would make small changes over time that I could maintain for life.

I subscribe to the 80/20 rule.

Follow your eating plan 80% of the time. The other 20%, eat the pretzels or whatever. I find it makes it much easier to stick to my plan when I know that no food is really 'forbidden'

It makes it easier if you find a good friend or two to help you eat those treats.Wink

I was going to say the exact same thing. Eat more.

It always sounds counter-intuitive, but sometimes more food means less...of you!

Good luck with the last 5.Smile

That's funny, cpaddick-my daughter is the same way. She hates her food mixed together, but will actually separate the components of a meal and then eat them. Like, if I make shepherd's pie, she will separate out the potatoes, meat and veggies-then eat them. Drives her dad crazy, but I think it's harmless. :)

I was watching TV the other day, and there was a ad for some sensor-activated hand soap dispenser. They made a huge deal about germs and bacteria on the handle that you -horrors!- TOUCH to pump out some soap.

Erm...are you not just about to wash your hands!? Problem solved, it seems to me.

Foods Advice to someone who doesn't like veggies Mar 16 2010

Maybe you should try 'hiding' your veggies. Puree some up and stir them into your spaghetti sauce or whatever. I mix them into ground beef and make home burgers. My kids haven't spotted them yet, and I manage to get some veggies into them while they eat their 'junk' food.

Sweet potato fries are awesome too-I don't even have to hide those from the kids.

Here comes another 'cynic':

Once a cheater, always a cheater.

That aside, although that's a great big deal breaker to me, she's moved on and you say you are no longer the same person you were three years ago. I would imagine that all the reasons you broke up still apply-let it lie. I echo the earlier advice that told you to find a nice, available girl. 'Right now' love is a way better option than 'three years ago' love.

If you look, you can find running shorts that have the underpants sewn into them. I found that stopped both the shorts riding up, and the wedgie that sometimes comes with jogging.

I take karate classes four nights a week, and aikido every other week.

It doesn't translate to alot of pounds off, but I accidentally found out the other night that I can kick a six foot tall man in the head.

Sooo...I'm guessing my flexibility and muscle tone have improved. My measurements have changed.

Weight Loss exercise and staying in calorie range but NOT losing :( Jun 23 2009

You could try changing up your exercise too-try checking out classes at your local community centre or church: karate, yoga, pilates, dance or whatever catches your eye. If you have a bicycle, you could take it out for a spin one day instead of the regular cardio set.

Anything that gets your body moving in a different way from your regular cardio might be enough to surprise your muscles into a little extra fat burning.

Weight Loss Question to anyone with loose skin after weight loss, like myself! (or anyone who knows someone with some) Jun 21 2009

By the time a guy is naked in a room with you, he's pretty well decided he wants to be there, you know? I'm sure that some loose skin here and there won't change his mind.Wink

That being said, there are a number of creams on the market that are supposed to help with the appearance of loose skin. I myself have some extra around the tummy where my last baby stretched the skin beyond it's elasticity. I find that although most of the creams do in fact help with the appearance of my skin, they don't actually firm it up. I just opt out of buying bikinis, and don't wear really low rise jeans.

Weight Loss Agree or disagree: Overeating healthy food DOES NOT lead to weight gain. Jun 21 2009

Overeating anything, even veggies and healthier fare, will cause weight gain if it's a sustained habit. The thing is, that it's really hard to do it-veggies are bulky in the stomach and make you feel very full for very few calories. You'd have to eat a gut-splitting amount of vegetables to reach the calorie levels that would make you gain.

You would probably also turn orange or something, which has apparently happened to people who ate too many carrots.

Weight Loss Got called "fat"... feeling insecure Jun 21 2009

Ever notice that 'fat' is the one thing you can call a woman-any woman-that will make her go into a spiral of self-doubt and insecurity. Doesn't matter what her actual weight is, she will still pick apart her appearance obsessively and agonize over the insult.

Which is exactly why she called you fat.

And you aren't. Not even a little bit.
