If you are female your body weight will fluctuate as well. Also have you worked yourself back up to the right level of calories you need so that you don't continue to sabotage your metabolism? As a female, don't get hung up on numbers! My numbers can fluctuate up to 3 or 4lbs per day depending on my cycle, my activity level etc. Base it on your measurements and how your clothes fit. Also focus your energy on being healthy and fit - not on stressing over those scale numbers - |

| Weight Loss | Why is 1200 the rock bottom calorie level for all women? | Feb 15 2011 16:25 (UTC) |

As a 5'2 very tiny framed approaching middle aged woman ;) I can tell you that I indeed need more that 1200 calories. Even when I am losing weight I cannot go below 1500 for very long or I feel weak and tired and cranky - and well I don't like to feel those things. I think you have to consider a variety of factors - I have a desk job - but when not working I am active, I don't believe in being sedentary round the clock because well it will also make you feel weak and tired ;)... but even sedentary - on days where I do absolutely nothing and being a tiny person - 1200 calories doesn't cut it for me. My resting metabolic rate is likely higher though than say a woman of my stature who is in her 60's and doesn't exercise or move... For that person if she is trying to lose weight 1200 may be the only way she can do it unless she chooses to move more etc. That being said if you happen to eat less than 1200 calories on a day you don't feel well or something - you don't have to panic or go off the deep end that you will go into "starvation mode" etc.... sometimes it happens - but don't eat less than 1200 on purpose and don't do it regularly - it isn't healthy and leads to more health problems and issues than it would help.

| Weight Loss | 3 meals/2 snacks or 5 mini-meals? | Feb 15 2011 02:42 (UTC) |

Ideally you should not have 800 calories in one meal - the body doesn't process that high caloric content all at once - which is why people who tend to not eat during the day and then eat a huge dinner tend to gain weight. Mini-meals throughout the day are the ideal way to keep your metabolism fired up and running at peak capacity. When I can I try to eat this way around the clock a couple of hundred calories every couple of hours. Other days I'll have 300-400 for meals and then a few 100 calorie snacks. I would not recommend saving the 800 calories for a night time meal. ** Many sources talk about the benefits of eating several small meals throughout the day as a way to make your metabolism run at peak efficiency - don't believe me look it up - but people don't have to get nasty on here when someone is merely trying to help. I swear people have forgotten civility. Here is my "proof" I used to never eat breakfast, would eat 2 large meals a day and I didn't lose weight efficiently - why because I would tend to "binge" due to hunger etc. When I lost 50 lbs and kept it off for two years it was through eating several mini meals throughout the day - it works for me and I was merely sharing - I'll avoid these nasty forums from now on as CC is nothing like it was when it started. good grief. Good luck to all of you and do whatever works for you - sheesh. ** |

A tattoo is one of my rewards I have planned too. I need to lose 20lbs of baby weight and I am planning to graduate from college after fall semester so as a reward for doing both of those 2 things I really am going to get it done this time :). It was my original goal when I first lost all my weight (50lbs) but then I ended up expecting my happy surprise lol - so I put it off. So yeah, now it is definitely a goal. I am a scorpio born on halloween and I love great horned owls - so it's going to be an owl in a tree with a kind of spooky halloween theme - I"m still working out the details :) - on my upper back. |

| Weight Loss | what is my activity level really? | Feb 10 2011 14:31 (UTC) |

I would set it low rather than high, unless you are really doing something athletic. Bowling, hiking and a couple of hours of wii are not all that strenuous. Considering that the body "gets used" to certain activity levels you are better off to set your activity level "low" rather than too high to see results. If after a couple of weeks you don't feel good or you are low energy or feeling hungry then maybe bump up your calories a bit - but only on the days you truly are more active than normal. Also, try incorporating new activities that really challenge you that are different - to keep your body burning efficiently. |

keep in mind that body weight for anyone will fluctuate up to 2 to 3 pounds a day depending on how much you have had to eat or drink, hormones, water weight, clothing etc. etc. Are you on the same scale every time? I would suggest a home scale where you can weigh yourself every day at the same time (in the morning after you get up and take a potty break) is the ideal time - If you do that every day on the same scale and in the same clothes (or lack thereof) you will get an accurate weight. It may still fluctuate but don't let a pound get you flustered! Unless you had 3500 extra calories in 2 days ;) you don't have to worry it will be a pound of fat - and even if you did eat that much it still wouldn't show up immediately on the scale... |

how about a good pair of insoles in the meantime? Good insoles can go a long way even with less expensive running shoes/tennis shoes. As for the shin splints you are likely pushing too hard - I would suggest looking up the "couch to 5k" running plan. They have a schedule or running/walking that allows you to build up to a run. The fastest way for new runners to get frustrated and quit is by pushing too hard in the beginning and then injuring themselves. |

If you aren't really hungry and you have eaten healthy I'd say forget it, however if you are hungry you can get a lot of vegetables into 100 calories. I love to "saute" green beans in a bit of veggie broth with some garlic and spices - the beans really pick up the flavor. You can eat heaps of those for next to no calories and you get your veggie servings up. air popped popcorn is a fun idea - full of fiber, very filling, very low cal. a piece of fruit (depending on the type) is usually right around the 100 calorie mark I am never a proponent of eating when not hungry - because I have had to break that cycle due to being an "emotional" and a "bored" eater. |

| Weight Loss | Allergy/Astha meds... sabotage? | Jan 21 2011 03:14 (UTC) |

I am your age I also have asthma and allergies and at one point doctors had me on that whole barrage of crap too - please listen to me on this ;) you CAN do this - I did it (now I am redoing 20 lbs of baby weight lol) I did lose 50 lbs and keep it off until I had my last child - and afterwords I lost the asthma medicine too - and it was the best thing ever. Those steroids will eventually kill you - they are dangerous medications when they are overused and many doctors don't tell you about the terrible side effects and the toxic buildups over time. My advice to you is to start "eating clean" ... look up "anti-inflammatory foods" and eat as many of them as possible and remove all processed foods from your diet - your asthma and allergies will certainly improve. Doctors are wonderful, but their jobs are to treat symptoms of disease and not address the underlying causes. I suffered for years - being hospitalized several times - because I relied on medicine and the doctor and not on myself - Once I started eating clean and exercising regularly and lost the weight - the benefits to my health were astounding. I currently NEVER use steroids anymore. I have not touched a prednisone since 2006 - the last time I was hospitalized - and I have never looked back. I don't take advair anymore (it almost killed me but that's a whole other story). All I have now is an albuterol inhaler that I keep on me incase I have an attack - and I very rarely do. At one point I never thought I would be free from all that stuff - and it was depressing to me. It IS possible - but much of it will be about what you are putting into your body. If you have the desire to get off that stuff - or at least cut it way back - a healthy lifestyle is going to help you meet that goal. Best wishes! Christin |

| Weight Loss | Body improving, face not! | Jan 14 2011 17:06 (UTC) |

for me personally, my skin improved radically when I stopped using commercial products on my skin and I make handmade gentle cleansers/lotions etc. I also make sure to get enough MUFA (mono unsaturated fats) in my diet - one because fats improve the skin and 2 because this is heart healthy fat that also seems to work against "belly bulge" which is my most problematic area. Before I started eating right and lost the weight I had HORRIBLE skin all my life - always dry, irritated, breakouts etc. I only stopped having bad skin when I started moving away from commercial products - some of us are just super sensitive to the chemicals put in all that stuff. A lot of skin issues can be due to food intolerances as well - so you can kind of do process of elimination - if you suspect dairy or wheat or whatever eliminate that particular food for a few days and see if your skin starts to respond. Always be sure to drink lots of water also as you have to hydrate from the inside out. |

I would suggest also seeing a dietician. Doctors are not usually well trained in nutrition - their job is to prescribe pills and chase symptoms etc. A dietician and educating yourself on what you are putting into your body is a great start. You can eat 1200 calories per day of the right things - and still be consuming plenty of food and feel satiated. You need to learn how to eat right for your body and a dietician can help you do that. |

| Fitness | Will Wii Fit Help Me Lose Weight? | Jan 04 2011 21:10 (UTC) |

I have wii fit plus - and it's fun to play the games but does get boring rather quickly to be honest. You would get more out of a treadmill or something probably if you want to invest in equipment. I would suggest though that you get the "personal trainer" (it's a "game" for wii, for no wii fit required) It lets you track your weight, customize your workouts - has a lot of variety and is much more challenging and interesting than the wii fit. I bought this a couple of years ago for 20 bucks - and it was very worth it! I got more out of it than I ever did with wii fit.

I know it seems like the last thing you want to do - but I have found that for me (I work a desk job, go to school full time, and struggle with anemia) exercise actually helps with mental exhaustion. Once you get going - the endorphins release and you will actually feel more mental clarity. I am guessing you are possibly bored with your routine as well (can also cause feelings of exhaustion) and so can the anemia. Can you try taking an Iron supplement? Also if you are prone to heavy menstrual cycles sometimes that can contribute to the anemia as well. something to talk to your doctor about. Try to go for a ten minute brisk walk in the mornings and then again in the evenings - that's a "reachable" goal and you can build up from there. Get some of those natural endorphins flowing to help fight the fatigue.

| Weight Loss | anyone lose weight from site? | Feb 09 2010 19:55 (UTC) |

A's or not, if you have only lost 2 pounds in a few months you have your numbers off. I lost almost 50 pounds previously. Most of it a few years ago with this site. Now I have another 20 to take off of baby weight since the birth of my second child. I use the site tools regularly. I will tell you from experience that the only way to lose weight in a progressive and steady way is with exercise. Exercise boosts your metabolism, it gives you more energy and when you have strong muscles your body burns more fat. Is it possible to shed some pounds with diet alone? yes, but you won't get the full benefit without exercise. I would reevaluate how many calories you are truly eating. Also are you carefully measuring your portions? Portion control is a huge part of it and the vast majority of people have no idea what a true portion size is by "eyeballing it" .. |

Some of us are "all or nothing" types and deal with addictive personalities. I personally cannot keep cakey things or anything made with refined sugar in the house - or I will binge on it. The solution for me is to remove it entirely - and it's not a sign of weakness nor does it say anything bad about you. If you can't moderate it - remove it. That's a perfectly fine choice to make. Also, if you find you are eating sugar a lot - it may be because you are having insulin spikes and crashes - which unfortunately lead to more sugar binges. Sugar can have very evil effects on some of our bodies and you might want to try having something sweet that is sweetened with something like Stevia or another natural alternative to sugar and see if that helps feed your craving without making you tempted to binge on more junk food.

The bullet is excellent for Salsa I agree. I grew my own salsa in the garden last year lol and I loved bringing in all the fresh ingredients that I picked and throwing them straight in there. We lived on Salsa during the summer - yumm and very low cal and good for you so long as you go easy on the chips :) I can eat it on anything.
I also use the bullet to make our own baby food - we puree the food, put it in ice cube trays to freeze it then store the little baby food cubes in ziplocs. In the morning I can just pop out what I need and let it thaw or microwave it a few seconds and it's fast, convenient, super healthy baby food for cheap :) |

| The Lounge | Do "Beautiful People" get better treatment? | Sep 22 2008 13:36 (UTC) |

I believe to some extent this may be true, but I also think it has a lot to do with the confidence level of the person. when I was very overweight I felt dumpy and like a wallflower so I projected that energy and what you put out you attract. Once I lost the weight I felt confidence and that showed I think and therefore people were friendlier with me. I never have worn a lot of makeup or anything like that and when I go out I wear average clothes I don't go all out trying to glam up or anything - neither heavy nor thin so I think a lot of how you are treated is how you project yourself. I had an overweight friend in high school who was always being flirted with and people were friendly with her because she had an incredibly high level of self-confidence and she was very outgoing and beautiful (despite the weight issue).. I think part of the problem is we associate our weight as a direct link to how attractive we are and therefore when we are heavy we feel less attractive etc. Not saying that beautiful people don't get some more attention or whatever, but I'd rather have positive attention for my brains than stares at my breasts etc any day. |

So just because people believe in something that is alternative they should be banned? Great way to learn from the experience of others. Also not all of us are so stupid that we have the "placebo effect" taking place when we are on the cleanses. Cleansing the body through fasting is done in MANY cultures - not just the master cleanse. Fasting gives the digestive system a break and can be good for you when done properly for a FEW days at a time - not weeks.. However this program and fasting in general i might add should NOT be done for weight loss - that's not what it is intended for. I swear why do people have to be hostile about things they don't understand and try to shut people up? I don't understand that - you can't learn if you censor those who don't think inside your little box. |

I get migraines around the time of my period and I never did this until the last year. I think the pill I'm on may be contributing to that but until I can afford an IUD the pill it is ... Also I used to get them from aspartame and most recently baking blend splenda has started to trigger them :( I was having them almost daily for two weeks last month and was thinking what the heck?? no period no normal triggers etc. and then I looked over my food logs and I had been eating oatmeal for breakfast every single day and I always put splenda brown sugar in it to cut calories.... well apparently that was the culprit because I promptly removed it from my diet and voila no migraines.. hope you figure it out |
