Thank you! That definitely sheds some light into everything! What does BMR stand for? Basal metabolic rate? (Ok, I may have pulled that one out of thin air? It just sounded close... |

Yup! I've found that they're in different places in every supermarket though. 3 places I've "discovered" them: 1. With the bottled waters 2. With the soda 3. With the alcohol mixers? I guess mineral water and club soda are similar so they put them there? They really might take some getting used to as far as the taste, but they work wonders if you can con yourself into liking them! Perrier and Pelligrino are the same thing but they have more of a "salty" taste to me and I don't like them as much. |

I'm 5'1" and 120 lbs. At my heaviest, I was 133. I try to shoot for 1200, personally, but I usually end up closer to 1600, give or take.

I stopped drinking soda and literally lost 12 lbs. It was like the weight flew off. However, I really had to "trick" myself into thinking I was drinking soda. (Don't fall for the diet soda trap, the sugar in it makes it impossible to lose the weight) I traded all sodas for mineral water. However psychological it was, I was able to convince myself that I was drinking soda and I didn't have the headaches and the withdrawals. I realize that most people don't want to try this b/c not many people like the "taste" of mineral water, but it has really worked for me. After a while, you just get used to it, and it's easier to get used to if you get it really, really cold. Sparkling water is 0 cals, 0 sodium, 0 sugar, etc. La Croix makes plain mineral water (my fave brand so far), but they also make "flavored" versions. The flavored versions are natural flavors, so it still doesn't add any empty calories, sugar, etc. Personally, I think the orange flavored one is the best. What's best is that you can drink about a case a day if you feel like it and you're not going to gain weight. It might be worth a try!

| Have you tried the baked Tostitos scoops? They're low cal and pretty much taste like the real thing. You can find them at any supermarket or mass retailer. | |||

Thanks for the replies, guys! I agree with jennyrl that the Carmen Electra fall short of their marketing. I just really want to be a little toned before I start going to the gym with all the fitness buffs...I don't want to be the one huffing and puffing and using the least amount of weight. I have a real self-conscious issue with that for some reason!!! I'm really ready for the warm weather to get here so I can go walk/run outside!! |

HI! I'm 24, 25 in July (quarter-life!! I gave off procrastinating for Lent, so I can't have any lame excuses to skip working out, but I still definitely need the motivation!! ! I stay in this window that oscillates in a 5 lb. window...I'd like to stay in that lower range, but I'm not sure why I'm fluctuating so much. Please help motivating me to keep up my workouts and keep me from hoovering some pepperoni-pineapple pizza!! |

| Motivation | Is anyone giving up something for Lent??? | Feb 08 2008 02:54 (UTC) |

| In the past, I've given up the "typical" things: meat, beer, soda, chocolate...this year I decided to do something a little different...and it's something that is a big-time issue in my life. I've given up procrastinating for Lent. That's right, no putting off chores, exercise, applying to law school, I have to do it the day it is on my "to-do" list. I've actually found, that even in the first day, once I have all of my "to-do's" done, I have a lot more time to actively devote to spirituality. Plus, I can't put it off! ;) | |||
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
