nomore3x5 - where are you going for your study abroad? Sounds fun, I always wanted to do that when I was in school but I never really had the courage.

Gabe, I'm glad your son is doing better now, that sounds scary. Good luck on the costume, and I'm always interested in seeing people's progress pics :) Mine are in my gallery if anyone wants to look, I should probably make a better timeline with better pics at some point.

Well, I've already gotten to this week's goal of 125, yay. So the last couple weeks of stagnation/small loss seem to be translating into a delayed drop-off of weight. Sometimes the weeks are uneven, you just gotta look at the average over time :) I don't know where I will be at come the 26th, but I should be doing well... although I'm going to my 7-year-old cousin's piano recital on Saturday and will probably go out to eat with my aunt and uncle and both of their kids afterward, so my weight might not be totally super directly the day after haha. I will try to stick to something healthy though!

Ledenkica: Water retention after you start exercising is normal, and considering your womanly-time is upon you, that gain most likely reflects the bloating from that as well. So don't feel disappointed that you gained, in a week or so the water retention from exercise will even out as well.

I stagnated this week. I came down with something and was pretty ill for about 5 days, so I didn't do any exercise. Luckily I didn't gain, whew. Back to the workout plan this week!! For instance, today I walked about 5 miles and also went swimming for 45 minutes. I am a bit sore now, as well as a little burned, but I feel great :D

From there, it started coming back down slowwwwwwly until this last week, where the pounds have just started dropping off! So don't lose hope in your first week, your second and third should be amazing and will show off your hard work!

Hooray, I've lost 3.6lbs since signing up. That motivation is still flowing.

My daily caloric intake is between 1200 and 1600, depending on if I work out or not. Most days I bicycle for an hour, sometimes an hour and a half. In the next couple weeks I will probably be adding some weight training into my routine, because my back and upper body muscles are in really sad shape.

Definitely love the motivation of joining a challenge. My weekly goal will probably be around 1.5lb to 2lb, and since there's a bit more than a week until Sept. 5th I'll start with a 2lb goal.

^^^ pay attention to that, it's really important info.

But as for motivation, I'm 5'3 and have lost 80lbs by counting calories, staying in a healthy range (for me that was 1500-2000 with all the exercise I was doing) and working out. So just stick with it, it gets hard and frustrating at times but it's so worth it. Try to break your meals up into 5 a day if you can, I found that helped with hunger and didn't lead me to eat too much at my next meal.

^^^ You can't spot reduce, and building up your abs will only make your stomach stick out more since it'll push out the fat, heh. Ab exercises are really only going to make a difference once you've gotten rid of the layer of fat over top.

Anyway, OP - some people are just genetically predisposed to carrying their weight around their middle. At my highest weight, people thought I was pregnant, and even now that I've lost 70lbs and am in a healthy range for my height (still a bit chubby), if I don't watch my posture, I could still pass for a couple months pregnant I'm sure. So basically, you have to just keep at it because the weight will come off from all over and not from any one spot, but eventually you will notice your stomach getting smaller.
