My scale's batteries died and I haven't had a chance to get new ones. I weighed myself on Saturday morning at a friend's house and her scale said I was 140 so I'm just using that number for this week. I'll make sure to get some batteries by next week so I can use my scale for consistancy.

I took 3 days off from counting calories, but I am going to get back to it tomorrow. Even though I think I will have a surplus tomorrow. It's better to be aware than not to be. I have no idea of the calories I consumed in the last 3 days so I guess I will just pretend I was at maintenance, ignore those days, and carry on.

Well if you're talking appearance-wise, on Saturday I was at a club and there was a really hot guy just standing there texting all night. I figured he was way out of my league but I wish I would have had the confidence to actually approach him.

Personality-wise, I don't think any guy is too good for me. I don't really consider personalities to be good or bad, just different.

I have gained 1.8 pounds since joining this challenge. Well actually, I gained more than that, but got back on track at the end of January and have lost 3.6 pounds since January 24th.

Total monthly weight loss:

I signed up for the January challenge, but I stopped counting calories part way through the month and actually ended up gaining a few pounds. In February I am going to commit to weighing myself and logging what I eat every day.

Weight Loss But They Actually Taste Better? Jan 13 2010

I am the opposite. My mom always bought whole grain products and not very much processed food, so that I what I prefer to eat.

I can't stand white bread. Well I'll eat white bread from a bakery like ciabatta but not Wonderbread.

One of my friends had only ever eaten white bread and I talked her into trying whole wheat. She loved the taste and never went back. She still thinks whole wheat pasta is gross though. I don't mind it, but I don't prefer it to white like I do with bread.

And I actually like the taste of tofu. And plain soy milk. My parents hate soy milk but my sister and I only drink it. I'm lactose intolerant but I actually prefer the tastte, and my sister isn't lactose intolerant and still likes it better.

I also prefer most low sodium foods over the regular kind. We buy low sodium or no salt added for everything we can and don't add any salt to our cooking. If I eat canned soup or something like that it tastes super salty I can barely eat it.

Basically, I think whatever you are used to eating tastes good to you. So if you keep eating healthy foods your taste buds will adjust.

I have started weighing everything except for liquids which I measure by volume and things like a tortilla or a slice of bread where I can just count 1 or 2.

I have noticed the same thing with labels rounding that JP mentioned. For example, on the side of the M&M's bag it says that 1/4 cup is 40 grams, but when I weighed out 40 grams they only filled the measuring cup up about 3/4 of the way. If I ate half a cup I would have thought I was eating 400 calories and actually had around 500.

Make that grapeseed oil...g's are important ;-)  Love the mermaid imagery.

Original Post by gi-jane:

I've seen a few articles recently that question the benefits of taking omega-3 in supplement form.  Apparently it doesn't have anything like the same effect as just 'eating fish' or 'eating walnuts'.... not harmful or anything but not exactly beneficial.  I'd save your money.

Salmon twice a week and a few nuts and the occasional splash of canola or rapeseed oil on your salad sounds much more pleasant than burping like a dyspeptic mermaid Smile

Actually, I'm pretty sure she meant rapeseed since it is high in omega 3's and grapeseed oil isn't.

My mini goal is to be down 5 pounds by the end of January. So far I am down 2, so right on schedule.

I was expecting a higher loss but 1 pound in 6 days is not bad. If I keep that rate up I will be at goal by the end of April.

I was 139.2 on Wednesday and 138.6 on Thursday and I have kept a deficit so I must be retaining some water today. If I look at the trend line on my weight log it says I have lost 1.2 pounds this week and my deficit for this week was 4250 which also works out to 1.2 pounds. I will try to drink a lot of water today and see if I am any lighter tomorrow.

EDIT January 9: Down another pound today!

I want to lose 15-20 pounds by June and hopefully look good in a bikini. I took some "before" pictures wearing one and I look absolutely terrible. I have never really worn one, only when I am in the Carribean and nobody knows me lol. So I would be really excited to actually look half decent and feel confident at the beach.

EDIT: Melika, I looked at your profile and we have similar stats and goals. I'm 5'4" and 139 with a goal of 125/120.

I use 1 tsp of tea leaves per cup. Put leaves into a tea pot or mug. Pour boiling water over top. Steep for 2-3 minutes. Drink!

The leaves should sink down to the bottom and stay there, but some people use a tea ball or something like that so they can remove the leaves before drinking.

Is It Possible to Go Natural?
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
