Motivation In my 20's and need some help! May 06 2013

I am totally in for a support/buddy system. I am getting motivated to get back to my old fitness regimen, and it started by getting back to some of the sports I love- like volleyball. If you can, I'd say start with a sport you love on an intramural level. It will motivate you on the days you don't play to work hard to get back to where you once were. I'd love to friend you here and on Fb if you're up for that, and to help motivate and train! I also joined Jamie Eason's 90 day challenge, and it gives you great food pointers and exercises every day. I love it. Plus, taking a picture of yourself in a bikini or a bathing suit, then setting big and small goals to motivate you along the way. When I went to college I gained about 20 pounds. Now, I have kept that off for about 4 years. Small successes begin bigger successes. GOOD LUCK! Feel free to friend me on FB too :)

Foods Issues with making green smoothies Nov 28 2012

This is a recipe for a green smoothie I love:

1 frozen banana (cut it up, then freeze it)

1-2 T peanut butter

1/4- 1/2 cup of almond milk (or milk of your choice)

Fill the blender the rest of the way up with spinach

I sometimes add more milk to the top of the spinach to get it more liquified, which helps the smooth consistency.  If it isn't the consistency you want try more milk or keep blending and shaking the blender to make sure everything is getting incorporated!

It is SO SO SO good, and I hardly ever have a problem with chunks of spinach. You mostly taste the peanut butter and the hint of banana, but it is such a pretty shade of green! Kale can be a much tougher vegetable to blend because it is more fibrous. You could try cutting out huge veins, but I think spinach might just be a better option for smoothies.

Weight Loss while my husband is deployed... Nov 24 2012

My husband just left for his pre-deployment training today, so I understand somewhat how you feel. My heart goes out to you! We don't have kids yet, but it is in the plans for the future.  Thank you for your sacrifice, too.

My best advice for you is to check out your local base if you live near one.  The gym on the base near us is also free, but has the added bonus of free trainers (not sure if the Y has this too?).  Rather than go and wander around the gym unsure of what to do with your precious time (which is what I used to do until I found my trainer), now I can spend 30 minutes absolutely kicking butt, enjoying my time and walk out feeling fabulous about myself. I have been able to build a relationship and a friendship with the people at the gym, and it made me fall in love with strength training. I know I look forward to my workouts, and the guesswork of a workout was taken out for me- thankfully! Some trainers specialize in running and others work better focusing on strength training- it all depends on what you're looking for! Whether at the Y or your base gym, figure out the staff and the assets that each gym has!

I bet you will make his jaw drop when he comes home! Good luck with everything, and best wishes :)

Congratulations!! I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your husband, but I bet he would be proud to see how far you've come and how hard you've worked!! Keep up the good work, and soon you'll be saying "Another 37 pounds gone!"

Definitely an inspiration :) Amazing job!

Love this!! Especially because I'm about 10 pounds to go, I feel like taking it one pound at a time is the perfect mindset that I need!

Now that's motivation! I would love to try that. A run with 10 extra pounds sounds like a nasty form of torture- but good motivation to never gain it back :)

I am in the middle of nursing school too :-) And getting married this summer. I know what you mean about your motivation... should I spend that extra hour studying or go for a run? But I have made my focus about my health rather than just the number on the scale, and for me, that helps me make better food and activity choices more consistently.  I want to be around in 70 or 80 years with my husband, grandkids, great grandkids, and whatever else God might throw my way.  I want to be healthy, along with my husband (we are losing weight and getting healthy together), for as many years as we are given.  It has been so helpful to have him along for this ride, too.  We run together, and are on the same diet plan, so we keep each other in check and cheer each other on. It's been fun to have him doing this with me.

PS I'm down 10 lbs from when I bought my wedding dress! I can't wait to try it on again, and have that bad boy taken in... that is another little bit of motivation! Maybe you could go try on some dresses...?

That is amazing! Honestly, I am inspired, too- inspired to make good, healthy choices for my family and make it a regular part of what we do.  I try, but it doesn't always happen.  Just a quick question- do you plan your meals a week in advance, and/or how do you plan your meals? I would really appreciate the help- that is what I have problems with! THANK YOU SO MUCH! And keep up the great work!

PS as a nurse, I know it takes a lot to make docs speechless- good job Laughing

Recipes easy chicken dinner-kid friendly Jan 20 2012

I coat the chicken in light mayo, then coat the chicken in corn flake crumbs. Yummy with veggies and corn muffins for dinner, or served over the top of a nice big salad. Corn flake crumbs give the chicken a little crunch and it's pretty darn good.
