I very recently started refeeding to recover from anorexia as well, and so far I have noticed that my stomach is SO bloated after eating, from fluid retention. Also I am probably eating about twice as many calories a day as I was before, including lots more fats and carbs like bread, rice etc, and I am so much hungrier also! I think its a great sign that our bodies are realizing that however much food it needs is finally coming, so our metabolisms are speeding up to use the food to repair body parts. The best advice my nutritionist gave me about this hunger is to go with it! we've been hungry for so long that our bodies want and need food so if you're hungry, eat more :) |

I just bought some larabars at Trader Joes for the first time a couple days ago, have yet to try one but they look perfect. They are made of only dried fruit and nuts, with no added sugar so they are both calorie dense and nutritious. Although like izzy says yes they are wayyyy overpriced (i bought them for $1.29 each! aggh!) Perhaps try buying in bulk for bars and things like these? Also, has anyone found any other bars that don't have any added sugar besides larabars? I noticed Cliffbars and Lunabars have a bunch of sugar added, although they still seem pretty healthy I think. |

Awesome erin for seeing a higher number and not being afraid :D Today I DIDNT count but ate what I wanted, because I was HUNGRY. And I feel so much less stressed out, my psych said I use eating to protect myself from feeling anxiety and that is SO true, even though I got to the point where I felt anxious no matter what because I was so worried I had messed up my calories without realizing! I've finally realized truly that losing weight and obsessively controlling what you eat leads to nothing good, only pain, stress, and sadness. I want to be healthy, not ridiculously skinny and miserable. |

I told my boyfriend about my ed a few months ago, and it was one of the best decisions I could have made, he has been extremely supportive and is one of the main reasons I finally decided to get professional help. If i hadn't told him I am sure I would still be in the same old place, struggling miserably on my own. Also, a couple of my closest friends talked to me about it, they had known for a long time but apparently had just had no idea what to do...its very hard for people to come to you first, but if you reach out to them, then you will find that your true friends will be there for you. Telling people helps immensely, in my opinion. Just be careful who you tell, and perhaps not too too many people, because it might come back and bite you in the ass. |

Awesome Fiona!! Drinks are always so scary, I love my alcohol ha but having to find the best way to incorporate into the daily "calorie budget" is always such a pain in the ass, something I want to get away from completely! Let nights out just be nights out :) Its so great you did that, AND ate two meals with a friend. |

Mmmm I LOVE raw salmon! I'm Japanese so sushi has always been a favorite :) You could definitely make a japanese themed dinner, with miso soup, cucumber salad with rice vinegar, seaweed salad, brown rice...maybe make some sushi rolls with some of the salmon! Perhaps buy some mochi for dessert and sake also :) |

Sushi is a great health food. Make sure, if you're watching your calories, to avoid ones involving fried things, like tempura. Mayonnaise mixed with crab also adds a lot of cals. Also, most of the calories in rolls and things come from rice, so either watch how much rice you're eating or order sashimi. Raw fish is a fabulously healthy food! If you just ate one roll and one piece of another, I'd venture to guess you only had around perhaps 500 cals at the most. California rolls have mayonnaise and avocado so they're more on the higher side but you only had ONE so don't worry at all! |

Thank you both so much for saying this, I seriously just read these two posts and feel so much better about myself, yes you're right I DID eat a lot but it wasn't like, say a whole pint of ice cream and 10 donuts or something like that. I didn't end up "tossing the cookies" (sounds nice haha) so I'm happy about that :) Helen thank you you are always so supportive also I love reading your posts PS Gi-jane the "cow" in my name is actually just a nickname I've always had not actually a fat reference as much as it seems like that. Oddly.
I think i'm going to go eat breakfast now ! ED says RESTRICT but I can't do that to myself anymore. I actually think I feel better today, after eating a lot yesterday I don't feel as weak and cloudy-headed! |

Original Post by goobyb: If someone is really and truly set on recovery, then one single person doing something slightly triggering definitely should not be enough to make them revert back to their ED. If it is, then they are not ready for recovery in the first place. |

qualquann I don't think you are being very fair to the ED recoverers who posted photos of themselves on their profiles, people like Helen who show pictures of themselves at extremely low weights show the horrors of anorexia, not "oh look how thin I was I bet YOU weren't this thin". Yes, people should preferably not post photos of them posing like "look at me! I'm skinny!" but there is nothing wrong with showing to what horrible health extremes eating disorders can take you. I personally find that looking at emaciated pictures makes me want to recover NOW before I let anything go to such an extreme degree. Also, almost everyone with an ED finds numerous things triggering...it is not fair to tell everyone they can't do anything that might potentially trigger you.

Just curious, but do you think these would be good with pinto beans instead of black beans? I have a long unused can of pinto beans that I've been trying to figure out what to do with :) |

Original Post by el3ment380: Though I think your intentions are good...you can't tell her not to come to this website its her right. And this place, though obviously it can be very triggering to people with EDs, offers a lot of support from people suffering from the very same problems. |

I agree with gi-jane, you can very easily fit carbs and oats into a healthy and low-calorie meal plan, and you will feel MUCH more satisfied with your meal varieties and still be able to lose weight. I find if I eat no breads or grains I feel bloated and unsatisfied all day. Plus oats are extremely filling, a half cup serving only has 150 cals and makes me incredibly full and satisfied for a few hours. Anyhow, my favorite breakfasts include: Pumpkin oatmeal: 1/2 cup oats with 3/4 cup water and 1/4 cup vanilla soy milk, microwaved with 1/4 cup canned pumpkin, then mixed with cinnamon and splenda. SOO good for around 200 cals. Egg whites: 1/2 cup egg whites scrambled with most any veggies, like peppers, tomatoes, or zucchini, then eaten with lots of herbs or put inside a pita or on toast. Fruit and cottage cheese: Pretty much sums it up in the title! Any cut up fruit with 1/2 cup nonfat cottage cheese, and 1/2 cup fiber one cereal. Or use plain nonfat yogurt instead of cottage cheese. |

Mm broil vegetables like eggplant and peppers with tofu in the toaster oven, coated with a bit of soy sauce to make the tofu crispy, and then dump it all in a pita! Delicious... OR a bunch of raw veggies, like lettuce, sliced tomatoes, peppers, etc with some hummus and its exactly like a hummus pita from Pita Pit, only much better and cheaper :) |

The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
