Did you guys just seriously compare someone who's gun was stolen to rape? Yeah, I'm done with this thread. |

Original Post by harlequinqueen: Because a license and microchip is going to prevent a criminal from breaking and entering and stealing a licensed owner's guns how? You are worried about the criminals... Right? Well I think we are forgetting the mind frame of a criminal, they don't mind breaking the law to obtain a fire arm. Look at Chicago! They have a hand gun ban, you think that's stopping a criminal from breaking into a cop car and stealing his pistol?
I guess the gun owner (and cop) fails at keeping their gun locked up then. That's part of the responsibility of owning a gun. They should both be fined for it.
Not as many guns are stolen as you think they are. There are people who get guns and sell them illegally to people... because right now, it's easy to do (depends on state). |

Skydiving and breaking your leg is your own fault. If you skydived, landed, and then someone else broke your leg, then it's not. This is what you are failing to see with your analogy, pinktofu.
Women aren't raping themselves after being blind drunk, someone else is. That someone else is the one who's responsible for their actions. |

Since that was my first post in this thread, I'm not sure what "light" you think I'm seeing.
I was just pointing out fallacious reasoning. That some people will break a law is not a good reason to dismiss it as completely useless.
but the law is completely useless unless a person chooses to observe it. Which is exactly why a piece of paper or restraining order etc does not stop those who choose to ignore them. So again, yelling law and order or peace and safety is not effective in the real world. In the real world in the cold light of day, there are folks out there who only understand ONE thing and that is superior force or firepower.
I think you misunderstand me. I'm not arguing for the banning of guns, but laws that would make it a little more difficult for criminals to get a hold of guns. I have no problems with law abiding citizens using guns for self defense, and a background check or lack of a 30 round magazine doesn't prevent that.
No law is perfect and gets rid of every undesirable behavior. Despite the existence of laws against child abuse and drunk driving, there is still child abuse and drunk driving - and nobody is suggesting just scrapping those. It's about using a multitude of tools for prevention and reducing opportunity.
And yes, one of those tools is law abiding citizens having a means of self defense.
I agree with this. I know, realistically, guns are not leaving this country. So I'd prefer that it'd be harder for criminals to get guns and there should be more hoops to jump through to attain a gun, so to speak. A background check, a drug test (yep), psychiatric testing, gun insurance, and some kind of ID that says you can carry a gun (this might already exist, I'm not knowledgeable on the acquisition of guns). I think a license should then have to be renewed yearly, and at that time you have to go to a shooting range and take a shooting test. We don't want people with guns who can't aim, right? Cause that to me seems even more dangerous.
I think on the guns themselves, we need some kind of microchip that can be scanned to see if the gun belongs to the owner. Right now there's just a serial number that can be filed off, I think there should be a way to prevent this. This way, if someone is selling guns illegally, it'll be a lot easier to nab them... in theory.
Also, I won't stop posting here. I heart the lounge. I will just no longer post personal bits about me. :) |

I don't see how I give off this impression. If I am, I want to fix it. It's not the fact that "elevators" were brought up from another thread, but it was done so to stir the pot. I was talking about weapons in a thread about guns where I never mentioned non-weapon objects as being a source to fear or die from.
Tofu was being condescending and childish in her retorts back to me while I remained civilized. I'm not sure how I was victimy here, I was just defending myself. o.O
ETA: Not to be melodramatic or victimy here, but maybe I will just stop posting here. Or at the very least never mention anything remotely personal. Lesson learned. :) |

Bunny, sometimes it's like you want to be a victim. All kev did was post something you already said. If you don't want people to bring the things up about you, don't give them a reason to by posting them and then getting mad when someone links to it.
Explain how you came to this conclusion. It couldn't be further from the truth. |

I don't think Kev meant to come off that way. but I also like kevin and tend to see his comments in a different light.
Thanks Feb. I think it's all a matter of perspective. The ire I drew did come as a surprise to me. I never intimated that Bunny should seek therapy, that's well beyond my area of expertise.

bunny,
Fat women get raped too. Being overweight is not protecting you. I know you might *feel* safer, but it's not actually making you safer. If anything, if being overweight makes it more difficult for you to run away, should you ever need to, then being overweight would only increase your danger.
You might like to learn a martial art... That's something that would make you safer.
:)
Oh, I know I'm not "immune." It's just me being irrational as usual. ;P
I am going to take martial arts when I lose ~80lbs. :) |

Yes, seriously, you asked the question and I answered it. That's all, no malice intended.
I really don't get the indignant response?
Firstly, I was talking about in this thread. Secondly, I was talking to pinktofu.
I'm also claustrophobic. I get into an elevator every day anyway.
I'm afraid of planes too, but I still fly.
People who are completely fearless are the most dangerous.
ETA: I said I was afraid of heights. Elevators go up. |

You come off as angry in all of your posts in every thread on here. I hope you can find happiness. :/
I think we can do the count down starting now for when her account gets deleted - what was that post about predictability again? It's only a matter time- in the meantime I won't feed the troll.
Why is it that whenever someone has an "unpopular" opinion here, people automatically jump to "i hope the troll gets banned"? I mean seriously.
I don't think it's that. I think it's when the person starts attacking another poster.
You can have an unpopular opinion and not be a jackwagon about it. |

perfectly happy. but you do have serious anxiety issues. like I said, I don't know how you can face the day with your fears of "death weapons" all around. I can only imagine when someone goes to shake your hand that fear that triggers in you, being that hands are the oldest and most available death weapons there are.
When and where did I post that I was afraid of hands? When and where did I post I was afraid of non-weapons?
I'm not sure why I'm responding to you, you don't even read what I write!
I think you posted in the Q2 thread you were afraid of elevators.

awwwww so you don't like when people actually make sense? having an opinion different than yours doesn't make one a troll.
I didn't mind your different opinion until you lashed out at me (and others). People who can't disagree without calling names or lashing out at them instead of defending their position on a subject come off as trolls. You have nothing of value to say to defend your stance so you lash out.
You're angry and violent and trigger happy - I get it. Moving on. |

I am on the fence about guns myself, but I definitely disagree with the notion that gun owners are somehow more evolved than non gun owners. And I sincerely doubt they have a lower mortality rate.
She's on to something there, with the Darwin thing. The majority of people who own guns or have access to guns are the ones who end up killed by them so... I guess it sorts itself out?
(I freakin' hate when I read or hear about kids dying due to gun access) |

Your gun could kill me!
A gun is a weapon whose only purpose is to kill. That's scary. People with death weapons scare me.
Well, you don't scare me in that way, but you know what I mean.
If I saw someone walking down the street with a huge katana or crossbow, I'd feel the same way.
how the hell do you manage to ever leave your home then? you know that cars kill more people than guns right? people can kill you with a pencil to the temple if need be... are you terrified of pencils too? a person can strangle you to death with their bare hands, are you scared of everyone with death weapon hands? you can easily be drowned in a sink or toilet bowl, are you scared of death weapon toilets? Seriously stop drinking the kool aid LOL
Didn't you read what cptbunny wrote? A gun, katana, or crossbow are particularly designed to inflict physical damage so she's afraid of them because to her they symbolize death. Cars, pencils, and other thing may cause death but they aren't designed for such purpose and do not symbolize death.
I think cptbunny's feeling has reasonable basis and laughing at such feeling is not nice in my book.
ETA: nvm, cptbunny already said how she feels.
Thank you :) That's exactly what I'm trying to get at. |

It isn't a derail. It's the very heart of the problem. Feeling like you should apologize for speaking about something over which you had no control.
It's incredibly difficult to say these things out loud - even anonymously online. What Merc took as an accolade, was actually an acknowledgment of that fact. By her example, yours and others, someone may be reading along and feel empowered to speak. They may feel empowered to save themselves.
And someone else might realize that they need to arm their kids - boys and girls - with better pass-down, or teach them not to judge a girl in their school, or condone the shaming of that girl. Hell, even if it makes someone realize their son needs to defend that drunk girl, at a party, or the bullied kid on the bus, then that's something.
Oh my gosh, thank you for that. Hah I almost cried reading that. I don't know why I feel so sorry about any of it. Stupid brain.
I still can't talk about any of it out loud. I can't even say "I was raped." I couldn't even say it properly when I finally told my mother at 20 years old.
People like Mercurystar make me feel stronger... I dunno why. It's triggering and empowering at the same time to hear other people's stories.
I'm mostly just angry. At what? I have no idea. I'm not even angry at the boy. Just angry.
I don't know how to get over the physical pain. Hard to explain what I mean by that. But yeah. I have issues. ;P
i wish you didn't live so far away. i know this is going to sound arrogant, but i could help you.
You're so sweet and great. :) |
