I do seem to have obsessive tendencies when it comes to exercise though. Just like how I can be with food. Do you think it would still be a good idea?

Look, bud.  You're weak because you are malnourished.  To fix that, fuel your body. You'll perk up quicker than you think.

The previous poster is correct about your testosterone.  That will self-correct as well.

How about using your obsessive tendencies for good?  Make sure you eat enough and make sure you are lifting properly!!  Be obsessive about that!  Again, jump into the fitness forum and ask questions.

ETA: Also, are you seeing a therapist?  That might be a good idea!

Health & Support Trying to quit. How much does a teen need to maintain? May 17 2013

Hi.  You know I would recommend that you eat more than maintenance.  Now, hear me out.

Restricting for 6 months on 300-700 calories a day is severe.  Even with the once a week binges.  Maintenance for a girl your age and height would be about 2,200 calories.  I know you suspect that your metabolism has slowed down and you are likely correct.  Because of this, if you start eating 2,000 calories (ish) then you will likely see a weight gain due to your slowed metabolism.  You don’t want your body to gain at 2,000 calories.  You want your body to understand that this intake is for maintenance, right?

In cases like these, it is best to eat a gaining weight amount for a while to make your body understand that the amount it’s consuming (around 3,000+ per day) is a gaining amount.  So when you drop back down to 2,000 calories (ish) your body stops gaining.

I really would recommend you see a registered dietitian.  They can help explain this better, and address any fears and concerns that you have.  I would also see if you can meet with a therapist.  Hating yourself for fueling your body is not normal and those are really tough feelings to have and work through.

Good luck and it’s good that you have recognized that you have a problem!

It's a nasty cycle.

The best way to break it is to not restrict in the first place.  I would also second a registered dietitian.  They can be incredibly helpful in these situations.

Woah, yeah you are starving, which is why you can't sleep!  You binge because you are starving.  You binge at night because you hardly eat during the day!

Girl, what in the world are you doing to yourself?  Please see a doctor.

Hi.  I would not focus on your weight if you are in the normal range.  Even if it is in the lower normal range and achieved by restriction.  This should not be your main focus.

You need eat right.  Around 3,000 calories, my friend.  Being a male means you need more to fuel your body than us females!  You are at one of the most important growth stages in your life.

This is the time to eat big and lift big!  You won't get fat by doing this.  You have so much testosterone running through your body that is necessary for muscle growth and you need to capitalize on that.  Trust me, ask any knowledgeable male in the fitness forum and they will tell you they only wish they could go back in time and eat big and lift big at your stage in life.

You do this, and you can knock that ED right out of the water.

ETA: Seriously, jump into the fitness forum and tell them you are 15 and want to start lifting.  They have some great advice!

so basically its these two things 1) i feel im to young, but then again i haveto get settled and married at some point in life so its better now than later right? 2) the word MARRIAGE its a heavy term.

Wrong.  You don't HAVE to do anything.  Also, it is better to have these questions 3 month before your wedding then 3 years after.  Right?    This is your life and your choices.  Not your parents.  Marriage IS a heavy term.  It is very heavy and if you are not ready, then say so!

It's okay!

You answered your own title question in your text.  You've been lying to your treatment team and manipulating your weight each week.  You're not serious about recovery.  You can't do outpatient.  You won't make it.  Plain and simple.

You are that underweight.  You are very sick.  Don't lie to yourself.  Go to IP.

Is that so much to ask?

Never really cared too much for Angelina Jolie.  Liked some of her movies, and mostly thought she was just weird.  Then, when she and Brad Pitt announced they were a couple I stopped watching her movies.  Over the years, I have admired her humanitarian efforts.  They seemed genuine, unlike most others.   Her love for her children is real.  Her focus on her family is to be commended.

Her op-ed in the NYT solidifies her focus and love for her family.  I really thought this part sums up the whole topic:

“My chances of developing breast cancer have dropped from 87 percent to under 5 percent. I can tell my children that they don’t need to fear they will lose me to breast cancer.”

Her choice is to be celebrated.  Not criticized.

Health & Support Recovering Anorexics, do you exercise? May 16 2013

No way.  It is incredibly counter-productive to exercise while recovering from an ED.  You do need to stop.   No cardio.  No weight lifting.

I would also get a second opinion from your doctor.  This is a great question to verify with him/her.

Huh.  I can't wait to be President so I can have the IRS go after the next group in line.

Speaking of which, the IRS is supposed to be nonpartisan and completely independent.  In a perfect world, anyway.  But, it does seem to be influenced heavily by government doings.  I doubt (more like I’m giving the benefit of doubt) Obama called up the Chief of the IRS and told him to discriminate against Tea Party Groups; however, there seems to be an ongoing pattern of corruption that is being encouraged almost by the current environment under this administration.

There always has been corruption in government and there will  continue to be corruption in government, but it seems like it’s just getting worse and worse.

I know the IRS is growing is size, just like every other governmental agency.  But, they really aren’t accountable to anyone, are they?

You should read the posts above once more.  There is no argument.  You'll notice no one said 140 was where you should be.  I believe the posts say that you look healthy and happy in the picture you have up.  You do.  Also, being 5 or 10 lbs pounds over weight is not fat.

You know, often times we are our own worst critic.  We do no see ourselves as others see us. We do not see ourselves as how we really are.

They wanted to know there facebook posts, Tweets, résumés of top officers and descriptions of interviews with the media. One group was asked to provide “minutes of all board meetings since your creation.”  And, of course a list of all of their donors.

Just crazy, but it’s definitely political.

A group I was in had to provide all that stuff when we were setting up a 501c3 to benefit homeless people.

Not the facebook or tweets because I don't think that existed in 2003. But everything else.

Should I take that to mean that we were being politically targeted? omg! I am now fully outraged!

:)

"Minutes of all board meetings since your creation"?  Really?  And the donor lists?  How about newsletters, any stories written about the group, and transcripts of radio shows where they mentioned any political candidates by name?  That too?

One tea party group was asked if they had any affiliation with Justin Binik-Thomas, who I guess was some tea party chair person somewhere else in another state.  Another group was asked to provide the names of everyone his group had ever taught.

There's no way that's a normal and expected procedure.

The above poster is correct.  You do look good at 140.  You do look happy.  You do look healthy.   You should not be ashamed of your body.

Here’s the deal.  If you recover properly (2,500 cals+), you probably will gain weight.  We can’t tell you how much or when it will level out.  Only that it will.  In time.  This is where a professional can really be helpful.  I would recommend a dietitian that has experience with EDs.  They are so very helpful when it comes to answering questions like this.  They can set you up with a plan to follow.

2500 calories is a "one size fits all" recommendation and is thrown around this forum with little regard to individual circumstance.

True.  However, there is something to be said for common sense, logic, and experience.

This stuff is pretty crazy, but not surprising.  Not really.

And didn’t the IRS say that this was just a few “rouge, lower level” IRS employees that targeted tea party groups?  Seriously?  Is anyone dumb enough to really believe that?  How stupid do they think people are?

I agree, actually.

This is incredibly self-absorbed thinking.

While we are not responsible for the actions and thoughts of others, we certainly do contribute to them.  I really hope you are able to deal well and accept the potential fall out that occurs from your actions.

It was an accumulation of things.  That thread just set it off.

It’s okay to be scared.  Really.  That’s normal.   It’s good that you are seeking help.

Hi.  I agree with the poster above.  You need to ditch the cardio.  It’s not a matter of “if” it will damage your heart.  It will damage your heart.  Period.

You can still do yoga.  Just stay away from power yoga.  These exercises should be for stretching and relaxation purposes.
