Hi there, i'd love to join!

I'm Rachael, i'm a 20 year old college student who managed to lose quite a bit of weight last year and then gain a good chunk back.  I'm 5'4" and last winter i hit 181.4 pounds.  I then managed to lose until my goal of 130 pounds, and then proceeded to gain almost all of it back because of stress and some bad habits i developed.  When i breached 160 and a lot of my clothes didn't fit again i knew things had to change.  I'm now around 157 and looking to get to 130 or 125 by New Years.  I'm hoping to fit into most of my old clothes again by my birthday on December 1st, which i can probably do if i can get to 135-140.

Friday weigh ins would be great for me.  I've set five pound mini goals for myself and hope to get to a solid 155 soon, and 150 before starting classes again.  It will be great having some accountability and being motivated watching you gals lose the weight too!

Hi there!

I'm also 5'4" and i started at around 185 last year and managed to get down to about 135 in the late fall, but then slipped and gained back up to a little over 145 now.  I'm trying to reach my original goal of 130, so i have just a little over 15 pounds left.  I'm looking to lose 1-2 pounds per week as well, though if i want to be losing 2 i need to up my exercise.  I also am changing my eating habits to be a bit healthier again.  I'd love to work with you to motivate eachother, especially since my biggest issue is losing motivation when eating socially and then gaining back a bit of the weight i lost.

I've lately been trying to figure out what my measurements would be at different weights based on my trend so far in losing 48 pounds.  I found that i would have almost those exact measurements at near the lowest healthy weight i could have, and actually was a little shocked that i could possibly even be that small!  I think you are definitely a good weight and have amazing measurements and should embrace them and be happy with them.

Its been taking me FOREVER!  I found in the past couple weeks that zigzaging my calories has helped immensly though.  I was stuck between 138 and 140 (my goal is 130) and i started zigzaging, now i'm around 136 - 137.  It seems to be working quite well, so i'd recomend giving it a shot.

Weight Loss Weight loss for health, or for appearence? Nov 09 2009

Original Post by rgurleyjr1:

It's not a problem, I have went after weight loss because of my size, not my health. I think that most people who say they lost weight because of health are deceiving theirselves. I think people think it's wrong to lose weight for apperance reasons, then if that's the case, people who don't  care about their weight who eat junk food are in the same boat.

I dont think i was decieving myself when i decided to lose weight for my health.  My initial reason to lose weight was because i was getting sick all the time, was winded just walking up stairs, was exhausted constantly, and so on.  And it all started when i gained 50 lbs in about a year, and obviously unhealthy move which put me from healthy to just in the obese category.

After about 40 lbs and moving back into the high end of the healthy category i felt in much better health.  I chose to lose the last 10 lbs for appearance after a lot of thinking, and because i wanted to fit in all my old clothes and not have to buy new ones.  Appearance wasnt a concern at first though.  I just really wanted to feel healthy again.

Weight Loss Packing your scales with you on a trip over the holidays? Nov 09 2009

Yup, i take my scale with me when i go home for the holidays.  I dont mean seeing it jump up or down a lot though so it doesnt really stop me from enjoying myself and eating a little more during the holidays.  For me its more about knowing my body and what it does in relation to how much i eat, not about trying to restrict during the holidays.

I just wanted to pipe in and say you can do it!  I'm 5'4" and started at 181.4 pounds about seven months ago.  I ate about 1200 - 1500 calories a day while sedentary, more if i did any exercise or was more active during the day.  I'm now 136.6 pounds, 44.8 pounds down!  I was surprised to learn i really could lose weight if i wanted to and restricted calories.  Now i only have a little over 6 pounds left to my goal and i just want to say that while it can be a little overwhelming at first, you can succeed it this!

A greek salad from school with mixed greens, feta cheese, and olives.  Delicious sounding, though it was a bit wilty, probably had been sitting around for a while.

That recipe sounds delicious!  I'm very eager to see if i can pick up the ingrediants at my local health food store and give it a shot!  I'm also curious about how many serving you normally get from it, although i suppose it makes sense to portion it out more based on how many calories you need or want at that point.

Weight Loss why do you REALLY want to lose weight [be honest] Nov 03 2009

I want my partner to be able to pick me up and carry me around the house without getting winded or dropping me XD

I want to be able to get all the body mods and tattoos i want and have them look good on the new curvy me instead of kinda blah on the old blobby me.

I want to look like a faerie and use my shortness to my advantage instead of it just making me look a bit chubbier.

I want to be able to buy the clothing i like from Japan and be a normal size and not have to have stuff custom made.

I dont want to have to buy as much fabric when i make my own clothing.

I want to feel more motivated to build some muscle because i know it will be visible instead of hidden under the extra 50 lbs i've been trying to get rid of.

I started at 181.4 and wore about a 14, though my clothes were very tight on me.  I'm around 140 now and wear an 8 at the smallest, but around a 10 or 12.  I'm 5'4" by the way.

Weight Loss Need Advice Please, Reasonable Goal? Oct 28 2009

I think with a bit over a year to do it, 70 - 75 lbs is definitely a reasonable goal.  What are your eating habits like at the moment?  How many calories are you trying to consume, and do you get a balanced diet or have a lot of empty calories?  While you technically should be able to lose weight with a calorie deficit no matter what you eat, i've seen that people that make healthy changes seem to lose weight more easily and also find it much easier to keep it off.

Another bit of advice is trying setting some mini goals for youself with rewards.  I started with a little over 50 lbs to lose and set goals every ten pounds which helped make things less overwhelming and motivated me more.  I chose rewards like new clothing to up my motivation even more.  Another thing that helped was getting a few items of clothing that were much to small and working towards fitting in them.  The day when you can actually wear something that was once a few sizes to small, or the day when it becomes to lose on you are some of the best inspiration i've found.

Anyway, i hope this helps and good luck on your weight loss journey.  You can do it!

Foods Low calorie / High fiber PASTA - the results are in! Oct 20 2009

I was skeptical because of the price but tried a sample in a gift basket my mother got and this stuff is AMAZING!  I would not have been able to lose 40lbs without it because pasta is my biggest weakness.  With this i can have pasta and not have to skimp on my favorite sauces, and get more fiber which was a problem before.  I know i sound like an ad but i seriously LOVE this stuff.

I also think it is tastier then other pastas i have tried (regular and low cal) and it truly makes me feel full after only one or two servings when i used to want to gobble down four servings of normal pasta.  I guess thats the fiber working there?  I also find this pasta keeps me full for much longer then most other things i eat.  Im supposing thats the fiber as well.

The only negative thing i can really think of is i've heard manufactured fiber isnt as good as natural fiber.  I know that without this i would have had a horrible time managing some of my worst pasta cravings and wouldnt have lost the weight i have as happily because i would have had to have a whole lot less of my favorite food!  If you are a pasta lover and having trouble fitting it in to your calorie budget i would HIGHLY recomend this!!!

Goal Weight (by October 29): 135

Week 1; 08-Oct-09: 139.6

Week 4; 29-Oct-09:

Total monthly weight loss: 1.8 lbs so far

I lost a little over a pound this week and am quite pleased with that.  I'm not sure i can reach 135 in two weeks because that would involve losing almost two pounds each week, but i'm still willing to try.  Really though i'd be perfectly happy just keeping at this pace.  I feel well on my way to my final goal of 130!

Foods What did you eat before?? Oct 15 2009

Typical dinner for me at least was a double chili burger from a local place, half a pizza, a whole bunch of rice with garlic and butter, or half a box of pasta with pesto and parmesan cheese.  Normally that was followed by a whole bowl of ice cream if i had desert, although i only had it a couple nights a week.  Oh, plus more mountain dew then should have been able to fit in my body.  No breakfast at all most days.  And lunch was often a bunch of possibly healthy cafeteria food if i had eaten less of it.

I still make room for the half a box of pasta with pesto on occasion, only now i have high fiber low calorie pasta which also has half the amount in the boxes...so not so bad.

When i reach my ideal weight i'll need a new wardrobe and will invest in as much eco-friendly clothing as i can made out of sustainable materials and in tune with light airy faerie fashion.  That way i look amazing (and will actually have a figure suited to the style i adore) and will also be helping mother earth!  I'll enjoy feeling good about my much needed new wardrobe on more then one level.

I would agree with those saying to bring food from home, but if on some days that isn't an option, why not try some of the healthier choices at starbucks?  Not all of them have this, but some have salads, sammiches, protein plates (containing a hard boiled egg, mini bagel, some fruit, and moe), and other semi healthier options.  They still probably are not as good as a what you could bring from home, but they are better then the pastries.  And if you're local starbucks doesnt have them, ask if they can supply them!  If interested people enquire they will often make efforts to stock them, mine did!  Also, the sammiches especially are really delicious.  I love the one with pesto, spinach, mozarella, and over roasted tomatoes....  Mmm, well, i'm losing track of things thinking about it.  Good luck making healthier chpices!
