If you are 118lbs and 5.8..then you would need to be toning up, not down. Bulking up muscles via Kettlebells or any weight exercise does not happen unless you make it happen by increasing food input and doing particular exercises designed to bulk up. For thighs ..the best one is long 1 hr + hiking mountains, using kettlebells with squats and other thigh effective targeted exercises no more than 20 minutes a time (see in google kettle bell exercises )and another good one is rowing (waterrower) or exercise bike for at least 30 minutes a time that part too Reducing food is stupid if you are only 118lbs and 5.8 ft. Ignore anyone whom tells you that. Only suggestion on food is drop the junk food if its there..i.e if you are using junk food in small amounts to keep weight down. If not then ignore this comment. To eat normally,to increase tone , strenght and stamina without bulking unnaturally..simply use a regaulr weights program with cardio..each 2 days..ts that simple..and for food..eat noramlly and avoid junky foods of any type and too uch fruits after 730pm. I focus personally on 3 meals a day..2/3 vegies per meal, 1/3 protien via fish, chicken, meat and keep sizes within one dinner plate each meal..and snack on any fruit you like as long as before 730pm and drink at least 2.5 litres of water per day minimum. Its worjking for me and I am not over bulking.Regardless of weight or targets I avoid junk food or sugar filled foods most of the time and the chocolates etc..BUT..eat this stuff once a couple of weeks for one or 2 days if want to..I found it will not effect me much if I continue regaular exercise. Note I exercise now every 2 days at least 1 hour too. I am much bigger than you, but the approach is steadily working so far..To be blunt I believe calories reduction only is nonsense..I found the key is exercise
Best of Luck! |

Try Kettle bells..you can use them just 10 minutes a day and they give real exercise..when busy. Better still combine it with 30 minutes to 240 minutes walk or hike..ideally hike..you will be amazed how you feel and improve over 3 months, regardless of size..although I see you are a nice low weight already! For Kettle bells get just one to start and build from there on. Type into google to see how to use them. Hope this useful..best of luck |

The low carbs , high protien for 10 days is another big diet myth..best forget it.. I tried it all before..Atkins, tried carbs only, low calories only etc etc..all myths..I have since found that trying to reduce the carbs only means should reduce refined carbs..i.e junk food, breads, white rice, health and junk food mars bars etc etc..The real key to sustainable weight loss is eating as much veges as you want + as much protien ..meat, fish etc as you want and fruits..noting fruits is only before 730 PM..and then doing regular exercise..I started with 5 minutes and added 1 to 2 minutes a day..in 2 months you are then doing more than an hour and burning real fat..you will then see change whoever you are! The real , only truth..which is always in fine print on ll diet books is everything comes down to exercise for a long term result! Its the main factor,.Hope this is useful..Note I am on Calorie count as its also good to save calories to below 2000 a day..but by eating good mixed foods..vegies galore, meats, fish, chicken, fruit etc..anything not processed basically |

Glad is useful.Agreed that being a slave to food does not not work..1000 claories actually can make you not burn and be too tired to get into exercise..don't worry about that as a limit..eat what you like..as long as natural and just stop when you feel 3/4s full and eat at least 5 times a day..not too much at one meal..and healthy snacks when ever you like..regular food in..promotes after burn more than either big meals or cutting calories the keys are regular sleep..to promote post burn..yes post burn is where most fat is actually consumed. Regular exercise starting from just a few minutes and building up..reasonable eating based on natural principles..avoiding anything processed of any form..even the fattest can win by this..another note..don't do gym weights or heavy weight based exercise more than 30 to 40 minutes a day..and when you workout..just use 30 seconds between exercise sets..reason..30 to 40 minutes maximises after burn..more just causes too much damage of muscles instead of after burn effect. Yet for cardiac do as much as you like ..as it burns alot while doing it, although after burn is not much..unlike weight lifting or any free or machine weight based muscle exercises of any type...including press ups , crouches etc..where you use the weight of your body to do it all. After burn is where we burn most calories and lose weight..other secret..hydrate as much as you can take..with plain water or coconut water..and cheat 1 day a week if you like..after all we are all human and life is here to enjoy..not live like a robot.. Best of luck to all |

I found it interesting reading these posts. I don't believe in only calories as its not workable long term. Ihave started a new diet that goes back to basics and its working for me. This 1st means, eat fruit in daytime, but minimize in nighttime..eat as much veges and meat and fish or fowl as you like to feel full..but try to use the method of "2 fists" is one meat size..but don't worry if sometimes over. Forget about only carbs or only protein or only non carbs or fad diets. On this diet avoid sugars, alcohol, white refined carbs such as white rice or flour and no potatoes..and avoid processed health bars, protein and stuff with nitrates in such as sausages..In other words this diet means just eat everything natural..and drink lots of water or tea..at least 2 litres of water per day..ideally more..avoid any sodas, gateroades or processed "drinks" too. Either other carbs or protiens are fine as long as unprocessed..vegetables as much as like except potatos, white rice and nothing should be fried...and calories consumed should be less than 2000 per day if possible The 2nd and THE most important one..is add as much exercise as you can every 2 days and on imbetween do a little if you can. Note this is critical to getting fat burnt. 99% of deits all fail long term because they just burn water (our body is 75% water) and bounce back is guaranteed with exercise. Exercise no more than 20 to 40 minutes if gym ..by using weights and if cardiac..walk or hike or row or bike or any..as long as you can is fine..This will create a huge after burn..build muscle and reduce fat The 3rd most important thing..rest via sleep at least 6 hours a day. The 4th most important..cheat 1 day a week if you like..but still try to avoid the real junk foods I don't claim to be an expert here, but this was what I came up with, after huge research and analysis..Its taking me down slowly and seems to work..I feel better too, my dangerous blood pressure has gone and although you go up first..because muscle weighs more than fat..you start to see size changes quickly..and then start to drop fat. My theory is this..we need to just live like a person should..balanced diet, no processed foods or drinks and exercise regualrly..note I started with exercise by adding just 1 minute a day at and now can do easily an 45 minutes minimum every 2nd day.. I hope this helps you all , like its helping me I always tried every diet before and all bounced back..including low calories.. This time, I am eating as I wish..feeling better, losing weight steadily and building muscle and losing physical size ..via fat loss..but building muscle and shape.. Good luck to all |

Hi..thanks for this post. What you said makes good sense. I just had a busy body tell me that losing more than 1 kg a week is unhealthy without finding out how I was doing it. I actually are eating well, drinking a bundle of water and doing alot of exercise..which has taken me some effort as I started around 127kg 2 weeks ago and now are just above 120 kg..and I am not losing only water here..but building up all over and I am not young anymore either.have found recently after trying many things and all the usual diets that nothing worked for me. I reviewed calories only and agree its not healthy or sensible or maintainable. So let me share what I researched and then started this year and what is now working for me and seems to be really working since i started it 2 weeks ago, ....Its 1600 to 2100 cals a day with proper stuff..i.e no junk food, no fried food and lost of veges and meats and fishes etc.. And guess what..you do exercise..I do as much as I can take for walking or hiking..but note you can just start 5 minutes and tack on a minute a day and build up.. In no time you see you will lose real fat, by building up core healthy muscles and cleaning toxins from organs..not water loss or muscle loss which is what calorie only diets attack..and don't worry if you can't do much now..1 minute a day add on is the key..Its worked for me the last couple of weeks and I feel it will be ongoing and time will tell..but are not giving up nice food or dreaming calories only as thats not sound. So don't worry..be positive ..you can still beat weight..its just energy in and energy out after all..hope this is useful! Best of luck! |

Hi..actually you can fix this..first increase your calories using fruit and veges and fish and barbequed meats..don't fry if you can avoid it and then snack on nuts in the daytimes..and add in EXERCISE..yes it is the key and main factor..start slow and building up strenght and continue..you'll even enjoy it, once you are past the "hell stage" which is the first 1 month..I painfully started exercising at least 1 hours per day..this means walking or hiking or waterrowing on a waterrower from zero to now which is 1 months almost..The result after 4 weeks was I lost 2 kgs, but I am noticed huge increase in stamina, power and my guts "pouch" and love handles are rapidly shrinking..substantially.. I also know that weight will shred once I meet a point of muscle growth..remember muscle per cm. sq. weighs 2 times that of fat Like you I did the big diets in the past, but to be frank, none lasted, even atkins where I lost 25 kgs and put it all back again.. I realise dafter alot of study that diets are rubbish if not having exercise too. Ironically exercise is the KEY component that most diet book sellers don't wish to tell us.. Obviously eat what you want..but avoid processed food and sugar..and anything with corn fructose/s..bulk on veges and fruit..ideally organic..and dump any trash food, except 1 time a month.. In no time you will see results and feel alot betetr inside and outside
