I think at the very least the F11 will give me a tailored # in terms of exactly how many calories I am burning when I do exercise.  I think that in itself will help me a ton in tracking my expenditure and balancing that with intake.

Anyone else out there use a F11?

Well, my body is telling me that I am not working hard enough which concerns me.  I am listening to my body and I am used to pushing much harder in my workouts.  I am still sweating but I feel cardio-wise my capacity is much higher.

When I read the instructions I set the info to my personal stats and did the One ZOne test etc.  I set it for moderate exercise to challenge myself as opposed to the elite level (I can't remember what that is coined)

I just ran a 5k this past Thursday and am preparing to start an 18 week marathon training for a fall marathon.  I am still struggling to decide how much to let the F11 dictate my workouts, or if I should just focus on my mileage.  I really want to improve overall, in fitness, weight loss...etc.  Is this too ambitious or is this a realistic expectation for all the hard work that lies ahead?

I have read and re-read the users manual in hopes of figuring this out.  Do you think it is worth going to talk to a professional?  (Not like I am in the market for that type of consultation but I am really that desperate to figure this out!!!)
Thanks again everyone...these conversation is helping me piece this togther.

I appreciate the feedback.  I had the same thoughts about the "range" and going longer distances....I can see how that may help.  My concern is that I have to run soooo slow to keep it in that range I feel like I will lose some of my fitness.

Is this heart monitor telling me that I am grossly out of shape?

What should I opt for...the higher heart rate to burn more calories...or try to stay in that range?

Thanks again.

Vegetarian How long have you been a vegetarian? WHY? May 05 2008

I'm 26 and have  been a vegetarian for over 16 years.  I grew up on a dairy farm and it did not make sense for me to eat the animals I loved so dearly, or any other animal for that matter.  My mother tells me she knew I was a veggie at a young age and never pushed meat on me.  The economics and environmental factors of vegetarianism have backed up my decision further over the years and have promoted taking my lifestyle to a spiritual level.

I have been eating vegan for 5 months and feel great.

Sign me up for sure!!!  Hi, my name is Emma and I live in Upstate NY.  I am 6'1'' currently (today)174 with a goal of 150.

This winter I was hovering between 168-170 and have been gaining lately despite the fact that I am running/working out more than ever!!  Very frustrating to say the least.  I am ready to get back on board with counting and want to start dropping slowly but surely.

Fitness Goals:  25-30 miles per week, 3 classes at gym per week (Total body Conditioning x2, Butts and Guts x1)

I love the idea of tall women sharing ideas and celebrating together.  I think we face some different challenges than others and it is nice to see this thread formed...great idea!!!

Hello everyone!

Great idea for a post.  It is nice to know there are other tall women out there that encounter similar issues.

I am 6'1'' and 172 lbs.  I have taken up running in retirement from college vball and have been working soooo hard to get my weight down as I have quickly learned less weight=faster times in running.  The thing is that this journey is taking so long and I seem to plateau more than lose.  My goal is 150 and maintain.  This running season I would even be happy with 160.

Any tall women athletes out there?

Funny that I came across this thread as I have been wondering the same thing.  I did a 1/2 last year and have slowly been building my mileage back up....I am logging between 25-30 miles per week and my longest run so far as been just under 13.

A marathon still seems so intimidating.  I am still trying to fine tune my hydration and nutrition....I have alot of work needed and I have yet to start speedwork so even a fall marathon feels like a long shot at this point....

When do you know you are really ready???

Alaina---

Thanks for sharing that with me.  It helps even in simplifying---it helps if I have a few things to choose from---pick them out ahead of time and not worry about running around after work/gym trying to figure out what to eat.

My goal 1700 cals a day and I want to keep dinner on the lighter side so this helps!  thx!!!!

Oh my gosh----by the time I have my lunch and afternoon apple I am only going to have 300 calories left for my dinner tonight....EKKKK!!!  What do you all suggest keeping in mind I eat vegan?

Food so far for today that totals 998 cals:

strawberries w/ soy protein

whole grapefruit

small banana with peanut butter

salad with kidney beans and light asian dressing

apple (to have this afternoon)

I really don't want to go over 1300 cals today so I am open to all suggestions!!!  This counting stuff is hard!

I am so glad that this thread is running since I need a TON of help counting.  I am 26, 6'1'' and 172lbs with the goal of 150 lbs that I want to hit by June therefore my recommended caloric intake is between 1300-1400.  That is going to be low for me but if I have a plan I do well with following-through.  Keyword:  having a plan.

I am sitting down writing my list for the grocery store and am attempting for the first time to plan out my meals for the week.  I have been a vegetarian for over 16 years and have been eating vegan the past month so with that being said...

I am all ears for 1300 calorie menus that folks have out there and will def share mine as I figure this planning stuff out!!!

THANKS!!!!

I have worn Mizunos my WHOLE life and after alot of research my latest pair that I got are Asics and I am thrilled with how they feel.  I ordered the Asics Gel-Kayano 14 through Zappos (free shipping BOTH ways) and they delivered in 2 days.  They received high reviews by Runner's World and other running sites and they have helped me a ton in managing some left knee pain that I have been struggling with.

I highly recommend Mizunos too, I have done well over the years by that brand as well.  Personally I find New Balance too heavy and **** for my preference.

Best of luck!!!
Fitness Shoulder pain when running. Feb 04 2008

I often get pinching and pain in both of my shoulders when running...more on my left side which is ironic because I had right shoulder surgery 4/5 years ago.

I was told by a respected running coach in my area that he thinks I run "too tight" and I have to be VERY mindful when I run and stay loose and allow my arms to swing lower with my shouldres relaxed.  This has worked quite well for me and its funny when I don't pay attention to this the pain returns....

Of course if this is nagging I would seek out a orthopedic Dr for it....

This is too ironic that you posted that stephanie as last night was like that.

I didn't do any outdoor running over the holidays since the weather here in WNY was cold and snowy (excuses excuses), but yesterday the temperture went wayyyy up into the 50's so last night I set off for a 5m run and it felt amazing!  I ran to a point in the city where I could see for miles and miles...the view was unreal and the air quality was perfect....I could have run forever.

My goal for 2008:  To feel that way more often than not!!!

I had the same dilemma this past fall when I ran my first 1/2...Since I was new to the longer distance I really lightened up on the weights and # of sessions per week and really had the running take priority till after the race...but that's just me.

I ran my first 1/2 this fall and didn't drop any weight all summer while training for it.  I have always been a strict ova-lacto veggie and paid close attn to what I ate throughout training.

2 weeks or so after the 1/2 I resumed a more balanced routine (weight-lifting, aerobic classes mixed in with running) the weight started to drop off.....go figure!
