| Maintaining | Calorie expenditure in formerly overweight people * for losers not gainers | Feb 04 2012 04:55 (UTC) |

Wow, the smoking angle, I'm not advertising tobacco or anything nor am I advising anyone to take on such a bad habit BUT you can get fit and be overall healthy while smoking on occasion. And yes, long term exposure to pretty much any kind of smoke will give anyone emphysema, and nope I don't have it, and the vacation/party smoke has got nothing to do with weight management. So, how's that connected to losing weight for the wrong reasons, losing the motivation, going back to the same lifestyle that led to the trouble in the first place and all the scientists claiming that we have to take hormones like that's the only fix? |

Hormones my butt, I've been maintaining since 2007, that's 5 years and I haven't counted calories daily for about 4 yrs, no exhausting workouts, no fancy equipment, no expensive organic foods (but no fast food either), no gym membership, no nothing. Plenty of fruit/veg/lean meat and some nuts, no fancy recipes, I prefer my food as is, not a fan of condiments, lots of walking around (don't own a car and I hate public transportation), comfy clothing, no stimulants like coffee and whatnot and who doesn't like my lifestyle gets the boot, instantly. People that love to be fit and healthy will get there and stay there, people who just want to look pretty and be liked by others end up failing miserably, it's common sense. |

Not everyone bloats or gains weight, it's just that some women are dealt worse cards than others, what I wouldn't give to retain some water but to be spared the cramps... |

| The Lounge | How much do you trust others? | Feb 02 2012 00:34 (UTC) |

I trust a lot of people with a lot of small and unimportant stuff, the things that matter to me are nobody's business. Family and close friends shouldn't be trusted with just anything, you might be giving them stuff to use against you whenever convenient. The thing about politicians is complicated because a politician in whatever office is not alone, there's an army of people behind and around him, each with his/her own agenda, a politician with absolute power is a tyrant or a dictator, so there's people and then there's budgets and crap that limit the number of promises that can be made reality. |

Nope, unless it's something really special I find it to be overpriced. |

If in pain don't rush into anything intense or you'll injure yourself and serious tears and inflammations can take weeks to heal. Give it a rest, work the lower body for now. |

I think the fiber requirement is a tad high, I don't seem to meet it ever even though I eat veggies, raw and cooked, and my bowels work fine regardless. |

| The Lounge | in your opinion what is the sexiest thing about a women | Jan 26 2012 04:48 (UTC) |

There's no such thing as the sexiest thing, a person is good lookin' as a whole or not at all and besides I've seen plenty of girls/women that look smashing because they know how to dress but once I got to see them in the locker or at the beach or without heels, well, bleh. Sexy is rare, most people are common looking and don't stand out without some tricks. |

| Fitness | weight lifting at home, esp. chest presses on a swiss ball? | Jan 23 2012 22:22 (UTC) |

Yep, when attempting push ups it's not the chest that gives up on you, it's usually the back of the arm and the core that fails to keep everything in a straight line. Start with the girlie push ups - knees on the floor - and work from there. |

I've actually managed to build some muscle with yoga, not by holding poses for a long time, by flowing from one pose to another in slow, controlled movements while keeping proper posture. There's yin yoga and yang yoga, one that elongates and makes you flexible and one that makes you strong. It's okey to feel disappointed after one class with all the people going at it with ease and you struggling but it gets better, and yes there are a lot of benefits including the young look. However, like with any workout, if you don't eat properly it's not gonna do any miracles. |

I'm not married but I've lived my passions, and while I don't agree with giving it up on the first date I think waiting until marriage is bad too. You have to learn how to filter the creeps otherwise it's possible to end up married to someone that turns abusive and treats you like property or keeps you around just to use as an incubator, maid and personal chef. If you try a relationship or two you learn how things can go bad a million ways and if a breakup can be murder just imagine how a divorce can be, especially with minors in the middle. |

It's possible to get or maintain mass while doing chest presses on the floor, there are a lot of home workout videos featuring that, the exercise doesn't exactly provide the full range of motion since the floor is in the way and for people that are not so flexible it protects the shoulder. There is also the dumbbell fly that can be done nicely on the floor. As far as improvising goes you can take a wooden bench and add some padding to it, like a yoga mat cut in half on the long side. |

I don't know what you mean by winter exactly, it's 10 degrees outside (-12 centigrade) and when my lungs are burning and my nails turn blue I simply cannot think about sexy or fashion or what people think about my looks, it's all about avoiding pneumonia and severe discomfort, so winter sportswear, heavy boots and thick scarf over mouth and nose all the way. |

If it's so bad that it seriously messes with your head just screw the 2000$ and quit, if you have something else you'll bounce back. If you can stick with it for half a year then do so but I'm guessing that you're not contemplating drastic measures just for fun and this job is pretty bad so give up the money, regain your freedom and don't ever sign this type of contract again. |

The "losing fat because you are sweating" thing is totally absurd. No matter how hot it is your inner temperature will be constant - that's the thing with mammals, we operate at constant body temperature, if it drops or raises just a little it's bad, fever or hypothermia bad. The environment can be hot or cold but the inner temperature has to be constant, there is no way your live body will reach the temperature at which fat melts, and no way you still have a pulse if it does, fat melting is a tv shopping myth. Bikram is just another workout that burns some calories and you still have to keep your diet in check, sweating is just water and electrolyte loss. |

Nope, protein bars are more like snacks and shouldn't replace lunch, breakfast maybe but only if you're not planning on being active till lunch. |

You don't have to justify your choice to anyone, just say maybe or some other time or I don't have the possibility to care for a kid, no money, no time, a crap load of debt, etc. People won't argue with that. You are definitely not alone, it's not a new thing and it shows, a lot of developed countries have a demographic imbalance that's not going away, to many old people and not enough working adults to pay their pensions, a continuous drop in the number of births, decreasing population - more people die than people are born. It's still slow and does not compensate for the overcrowding generated by huge, underdeveloped areas of the world but the phenomenon is there. |

Listen to your doctor, weight gain just like weight loss is supposed to be slow, it sounds like you may be expecting immediate results. Don't restrict but also don't try to force things. Eating alone is no crime, I love to eat like a pig and hate meals in public where I'd have to observe a certain etiquette. About the habits, no they don't last forever, you will change a lot in time you're just to young to realize it. |

The beauty crap has been around for ages, long before calories, there was a time when beauty meant having a tiny waist, big boobs and big, teary eyes, no really, that was the age of corsets and atropine (women used it for pupil dilation so that their eyes would seem deep and large), self mutilation for the sake of attracting admirers is not a contemporary invention. Even for those who are overweight losing in order to be considered beautiful is doing the right thing for the wrong reason. The younger you are the easier it is to fall in this trap, lose weight, get boyfriend/husband/praise, lose motivation, regain weight, rinse and repeat. Older people usually have health in mind when trying to lose fat. |
