Weight Loss coffee conundrum Sep 10 2007

well... funny enough, I just gave up coffee (and all caffeine, really) about a month ago.  In that time I have.... gained a pound.  Doesn't sound like that theory holds a lot of truth, but maybe the weight loss is coming... :)

I cannot say enough about the Yaz bc pill for weight loss purposes.  I was never hungry, and my metabolism spiked quite a bit on the pill.  I ended up losing 7 pounds in 3 months without a ton of effort.  Be warned, though - went off of the pill and immediately gained it back :(

Weight Loss Carbohydrates and marathon training? Apr 12 2007

I second the no less than 50% of calories from carbs recommendation.  Whole grains, fruits, and veggies preferred (though watch out for too much fiber before a long training walk).  I have run 2 marathons... I would say up to 65% of cals from carbs is acceptable/desirable... but check with someone on PCOS.

I lost about 100 lbs about 12 years ago.  It took me 2 years... 70 the first year, 30 the next.  I pretty much did the equivalent of CC, except on paper... wrote down what I ate, how many calories were in it, how much fat, etc.  I stuck with about 1200-1400 calories a day (I know cc recommends more).  When I hit a plateau, I overate... for one meal, on one day.  Usually, that jump-started my ultra-slow (4 lbs a month on average) weight loss.  I also started "running".  I say "running" because it initially felt like huffing and puffing in a bouncing ball down the street =)  I split up the running to two sessions, 30 mins each every day.  I also made sure I drank 8 glasses of water a day... good trick there was to force myself to drink 4 glasses before I could eat anything for the day.  But seriously... every day was a little better than the last.  That alone was my motivation to keep at it for two years.  I *still* keep track of what I eat, and I generally run every day, or at least 5 days a week... so the habits I learned are things that will serve me for the rest of my life.  Good luck to you!  p.s. weight lifting didn't factor in until I'd lost pretty much all of it... that's just me, though... cardio seemed to do more for me.

yeah, I already had those fixed... that was definitely worth it.  I am a big runner, and that surgery only took me down to walking for two weeks (though now I have to wear two sports bras when running).  The tummy tuck part... I don't know.  I hear recovery stories of "curled up in a ball for a week".  yikes.

I feel like I have to post a reply to this one... it hits home in so many ways.  I am 5'4", 126... but used to be about 225.  I worked my a** off to lose the weight about 10 years ago.  A few months ago, I chose to share my past with a guy I was seeing, and his response was to point out overweight people when we were out and ask if I was "that fat".  What a jerk.  Those people lack self-worth and try to find it by putting others down.  Do not let this guy determine any part of your self-worth!!!!!

That said... I will say that when I weighed 225, I got married... lost the weight, felt amazingly better about myself... and realized I'd entered into that relationship thinking "this is the best I can do".  The relationship ultimately did not last.  Don't cheat yourself out of being the best person you can be.  You deserve that.  Keep up the good work!
