When I was in Tibet, I retained water like crazy. I was so puffy and bloated the entire time! It came off as soon as I went down to a lower altitude. That said, Tibet is pretty much as high as you can go. I'm not sure if Colorado is high enough to make a difference?

while colorado is certainly not as high up as tibet, denver is a mile above sea-level.  i'm in the mountains, so i'm at an even higher altitude than that.  i certainly feel the effects of the altitude- i get short of breath, dizzy, etc. when i do something that gets my heart racing.  i "acclimate" after a couple of days, though.  :)

assuming that colorado is higher than where you usually are, you should be lighter.  but the effect is minimal (like, probably not measurable).

yes, i'm usually at sea level.  uh oh, so maybe i did gain three pounds.

Original Post by floggingsully:

The variation between the two scales your using probably has a lot more to do with it than the altitude.

maybe you're right.  at home, i use a doctor's scale.  here, i'm using a digital scale.  the doctor's scale should be more accurate, right?  but could the digital scale really be off by a whole three pounds?

Original Post by ehp1975:

I always think that when I am up at altitude that I weigh more.  I think because it's so dry I retain more water.  Another friend of mine recognized the same thing (we both grew up at sea level, lived in Colorado, then moved back to sea level).  I guess worry about it if the 3 pounds is still there when you leave :)

that's reassuring.  yes, i'd like to think it's because my body is retaining fluid, trying to counteract the dry climate.  you're right, i should just worry about it when i get home.  thanks.  =)

alright, people have already posted a lot- but i'll throw in my two cents.

it doesn't always hurt the first time.  if your hymen (the thin inner membrane that stretches across your vagina) has already broken, sex can be quite painless.  your hymen can break during a number of activities- anything involving vigorous exercise, really.  riding a bike, a horse, playing sports... any of these.  and using tampons stretches it out, too.

if it does hurt, though, tell your boyfriend to go slowly.  it'll pinch at first, but it should go away.

of course, as the others have said, USE PROTECTION.  and make sure it's what you really want.  once he takes your virginity, you can't ever get it back.  i hope this boy is special.  :)

if you've only equalled the amount you've burned, then you can- and should- eat more food.  you've had an eating disorder, and you're still in recovery mode.  if your body is telling you it's still hungry, go ahead and eat.

I agree with all the other posts- cereals, instant oatmeal, popcorn, fresh fruit are all good.  I also love those rice cakes- they have lots of yummy flavors (apple cinnamon, caramel, lightly salted, etc.), they're crunchy and filling, and they're only 25-50 calories per cake.

Peanut butter is also wonderful- it's caloric, so you have to limit yourself, but it's great because it has a lot of protein, it's satisfying, and it keeps fresh foreverrrr.  I love dipping fruit in peanut butter- bananas, apples, etc.  Gives it a different flavor when you're sick of eating fruit.

Luckily, it all worked out in the end.  :)

I use good old "Sheer Blonde," and sometimes I use Herbal Essences for a change (and because it smells better).  I've never thought the price or quality of a shampoo matters that much, in the long run.  And if it does, I don't really care- I mean, my hair's dead anyway, right?  I get it trimmed regularly to get rid of those icky split ends, and my hair seems to do just fine.  But I don't blow dry it or straighten it, so I don't have to deal with heat damage, either.

I don't think snooping on anyone is okay.  If they want to keep something private, that's their perogative- and no one has the right to violate that.

I've never snooped through my boyfriend's things.  I can see how it would be tempting to do so, but I also know I'd feel really guilty doing it.  Plus, snooping would mean I didn't trust him- and I think any worthwhile relationship is dependent on trust.  Without it, why bother?

I don't think it's ever happened to me, either.  I hope not, anyway!  I write in a journal every day, and I write my deepest, darkest secrets in there.  I don't know what I would do if anyone read it.  I would feel so violated.

I agree with the other posters- it doesn't have to be pricey, but personal is always best.  You could burn him a CD of songs you think he'll like, or buy him a movie you know he'll love.  Food is always acceptable, too, of course.  Baking him cookies shows him you put effort into making the gift for him.  Festive food is great, too- after we had been dating a couple months, I gave my boyfriend a tin of peppermint bark for Christmas, and he loved it.

I'm thankful for my family, my friends, and my good fortune.  I'm thankful that I have a beautiful body that does exactly what I need it to do-- I have two feet that can carry me anywhere, two capable hands, two (nearsighted, but still functional) eyes, and a face that can express anything I am feeling.  I'm thankful that I ended up exactly where I needed to end up, at a college that I love.  I'm thankful that everything is falling into place.  Sometimes I feel like everything is too good to be true, and I'm thankful for Thanksgiving, because it gives me the opportunity to finally take notice of those things that I usually take for granted.

I loved Frog and Toad!  Those were great.
I also loved Susan Cooper's The Dark is Rising series, and all the Mary Poppins books, and the Goosebumps series, and all the Edward Eager books.

The series that first really turned me on to reading, though, was "The Boxcar Children" series.  I loved, loved, loved the Boxcar children.  I think I probably read every book in the series.

I hated Nancy Drew, though, and I avoided the Wrinkle in Time series for a long, long time- but when I finally got around to reading the books, I loved them.
