Fitness Question for high school cross country runners? May 18 2012

In my opinion, you shouldn't be joining cross country to compete against the people on your team. Your competing against other teams :) Everyone has a different skill level, I would think that the team would just be glad to have you included.

Weight Loss good breakfast foods? May 05 2012

One of my favorite breakfasts is an Eggo nutrigrain waffle (85 cals) with 1 tbsp peanut butter (about 95 calories). The peanut butter gets all smooth and melty on the hot waffle, and its just deliciousssss.

Not very high in calories or fiber, but i snack a lot during the day so i try to save calories where i can. This is a very quick breakfast that i love.

Thanks, I'll try some of those options! And I'll try to force myself to do some regular step ups every once in a while too :P

The steps at my gym are placed right in front of a window that looks out on this god awful court yard, overrun with weeds and the concrete is all cracked and theres trash everywhere. I hate looking at it. But I can't move the steps and theres not a lot of sturdy benches around. But oh well! :)

I poop like every 2-3 days usually. Been that way since i was a young'n

Off the ground, of course. But off the rack that is at least a good 10 inches above my head? I'm bit weary!

Oh! and also:

"Dear skeletor looking woman,

The antibacterial spray is not yours. The last time i checked, it didn't have "for skeletor's use only" written on it. It doesn't belong behind your treadmil until your done walking at 3 miles per hour for 30 minutes past the time limit. Put it back."

Ah, feels good to get that out.

"Dear sir,

If you haven't noticed, i am about half your size. Do i really look like i can take your 45 lb weights off the squat rack?"

I just wish everyone could be courteous and put their weights up when they are finished!

Haha, I have no rhythm whatsoever so even just the basics dvd was a challenge for me. I just can't seem to get my hips to move like that.

With luck I'll get better, just another one of those things that takes practice I suppose

If your going to start practicing in 7 days, honestly, I would work on getting your endurance up during that time rather than getting stronger. Unless you are already very fit aerobically. I can only imagine how much running your going to be doing for rugby...

If it were me, I would work on endurance first, then strength will follow.

I can see what you mean, hmindel. Funny how it's only been 5 years and I've already forgotten what 13 felt like.

ANYWAY, ashatch, despite the tangent that this forum took I hope our advice helped :) Good luck, and good for you for taking honors classes. It will all pay off when you get to your senior year and are applying for scholarships and college.

hmindel, I didn't seen any smart ass comments on this forum...

Anyway, I agree with unabletolose, breaking up your exercise into 10-15 minute sections two to three times a day is a great wa to fit in time to excersize. Maybe in the morning after you wake up you do 15 minutes, then take a shower so your not stinky and sweaty. Then do another 15 minutes at night before you go to sleep.

I'm a senior in high school and I know what it's like to have a busy schedule, with school from 7-2, work from 2-5, homework/dinner from 5-6, and then on tuesdays and thursdays college courses from 6-9.

Doing something is better than doing nothing, no matter how small that something may seem.

Fitness quick question Mar 17 2012

Yes!

I think as long as you get your heart rate up and work during those 15 minutes, it is definitely worthwhile.

I like jumping lunges/squats. :) They work your legs, get your heart pumping, and require no equipment whatsoever.

happyasaclam88,

I really enjoyed the first workout you mentioned. I wasn't sore the next day, but I'm going at it again tomorrow so hopefully since I'm more familiar with it I can put my all into it. I'm also looking forward to trying the others.

I really want to try zumba! But my gym only has 1 class that I can attend, as the others are in the morning when I am in class. So i'll see into trying soon, i've been thinking about trying one of the video games.

I wasn't seeing incredible results with NROLFW, but I might go back to it because it was more varied and more structured. I just kind of feel like I'm already as muscley as I'd like to be, and I'm weary of gaining any more.

To clarify the cardio, I do intervals on the eliptical trainer. 1 minute of high intensity work (resistance 10, about 165 strides per minute) followed by 2 minutes moderate intensity (resistance 2-3, 165 strides per minute)...I don't know if that is HIIT or not, but my heart rate usually stays around 160-180.

Maybe i'm just in a funk with the weights. I don't know, I'm bored.

I wasn't intending to be rude. But I think many women would agree that they are intimidated of the weight room. Especially at my gym. My apologies.

I lost my virginity with my current boyfriend when I was 15. We had been together for about a year and a half I think, and we are still together (and happy) today. So it isn't always going to be a "huge mistake" like everyone here is making it out to be. You do need to think about it. If you're feeling any doubt at all, then it isn't time. It is going to be awkward no matter what, really. I'm guessing if he's been with you for as long as he has, then he isn't holding out just for sex. If he was he would have moved on. So he should be okay with waiting for as long as you need

I think the best part about it was how awkward the one man was when he came in about 20 minutes after me. Little taste of their own medicine ;)

I think you were probably retaining water. Your muscles will hold on to water when you start exercising to help them heal. As for the supplement, I can't really give you any imput. My best guess that any fat it would help you burn is pretty insignificant in the general scheme of things, that just seems to be how supplements go.

Fitness Elliptical Trainer...? Feb 19 2012

When I do the elliptical at the gym I do intervals. I usually do 1 minute of hard work (about 7 resistance, 50+rpms), followed by 2 minutes of recovery(1-2 resistance, 40-50rpms) for 15-20minutes. Since you are a beginner, I would maybe start with 30 seconds of hard work followed by a minute and a half of recovery, with whatever speed and resistance that you are comfortable at. Don't forget that you can push for speed on an elliptical, it isn't all about resistance :). There are options for the elliptical on the activity log, but they may not be as accurate for you since you're younger. Just focus on keeping your heart rate up.

*15-20 minutes isnt my whole workout though. I spend about 30 minutes strength training as well.
