A calorie is a calorie, but how you got it is important. "empty" calories like from soda, are from a lot of sugar, which jumps your insulin, which shuts down your metabolism, which makes you fat. Carbs are important, but they have to be controlled with complex carbs, you want your blood sugar to stay balanced. Lean meats, complex carbs only, high fiber, low fat, plus protein at the right times are what you are looking for in general. Be careful of fad BB stuff, look for the tried and true stuff that is backed with solid nutrition information. |

I'm a heavy girl and I get tons of attention. I don't want it because I'm happily married, but I figured this out really fast. If you look nice and smile, you are way more likely to get attention. It's all about the body language. If you look like your upset cause nobodies talking to you, guess what? They don't wanna talk to you, cause you might look too intimidating or be the "mean girl". This is constantly frustrating to me because I can't help it. I easily laugh, and I tell funny jokes, bam, phone number. ugh. Try smiling and laughing, but don't look fake doing it, you know kinda like a really bad cheerleader. Keep open body language and you will get attention, I promise. |

I will state that I am shedding size, but It's possible that the muscles are holding glycogen & water around the muscle. However, when I say martial arts, Boxing is a large chunk of that, as well as kickboxing. I should have also mentioned that WITH the yoga is a strength training regimen like lunges, planks, that kind of thing. Sorry, I was kinda sleepy when I wrote my post earlier. My husband has noticed a marked difference in my movement and strength. The poor guy has started bracing when I am punching the training mitts. He's nearly fallen on his butt several times. I lost about 20 lbs in 8 weeks or so, then I hit this suspended mode where I am losing size, but not weight. |

Original Post by zephyron: Oh I know, I was just going for a laugh. I stopped using the target one as soon as I got my wiifit because I was playing every day. I still do, it's just easier to use. My target one is possessed, if you cross your eyes, you're 5 lbs lighter, sneeze, you're 5 lbs heavier. I considered using a marker to draw around my feet so that I could get a "consistant" (yeah right) measure. Depending on where you stand it can be a 20 lb difference. It shouldn't be a game, unless it's meant to, to figure out what you weigh. I would step on three times, if the reading was different, I would keep going til I had the same reading 3 times in a row. oi. |

Because everything I eat is considered weird anyhow, I have a hard time answering this. I eat so much international stuff, instead of "American". I'm OCD and hate my food to touch usually, BUT I like to take yeast rolls, stuff mash potatoes in and green beans. It was a survival tactic as a kid when eating school lunch. They always had those things, but the rest of the meal would be like Salisbury steak, or something drowned in gravy. I can't stand that stuff, so I discovered that not only could I get mine, but the other kids didn't want their veggies, so we would trade. I got the veggies and rolls, they got my nasty greasy meat. because I hate gravy and stuff, I also adapted to my mom's rather dry cooking by taking whatever meat I did like, steak, shnitzel, porkchops, chicken, and would scrape up some mashed potatoes, dab it in corn, then stab a peice of meat. yum. It felt like KFC ripped me off when they started their chicken bowls, but they add gravy and cheese, gross. (her food's good now when I visit, but I can't break the habit now.) |

It depends on what you are gaining back. Are you lifting weights and toning? If so, expect to gain a significant amount. Have you been eating more salt then before? Drink water, you'll flush it out. Or are you getting flabby? If so, it's time to start toning. Odds are your metabolism is slowing down and needs revving. Muscle will do that. I'm betting one of those three. If not, maybe you should measure your food more carefully, you could be mis-estimating. If all else fails, see a doctor, it could be your thyroid, or something else important. Pregnancy can also be a problem.... I just looked at your basic member area, if you are a teenager, your body may just be undergoing changes. I don't know how old you are or anything, but if you are still in the mid to lates, like 17 or 18, you could very well be gaining bone density, more curves, height, whatever. That = more weight. unless you develope a sudden beer gut, I'd say it's no reason to panic, just up your exersise. If you have been doing the same thing, your body may be too used to it to do any good so you will need to change your routine. |

| Recipes | Anyone know how to make low(er) cal pastry | Sep 20 2008 23:22 (UTC) |

Original Post by singing_girl: Its a baking mix that has a little salt, baking powder, flour. It's essentially biscuit (not cookies) or pancake mix, so I'm sure you can find something. :)
Because of the simplified ingredient list this is also fairly healthy depending on your cheese level. :) If you do feel like indulging with pastry, use puff pastry thinly placed on the bottom of the casserol dish, pour in a double batch of the egg mix, then put a thin layer or strips across the top. Reduce the temp a little and increase the baking time by 10-20 minutes. Check it with a poke in the middle for doneness. You can skip the layer on the bottom and just strip it accross the top, that way you get the flavor without adding too much. Enjoy! |

I know that the pastry is what make things soooo good, BUT, you can make a frittata like quiche. Use two eggs, 1 cup milk, 1 half cup of bisquick (or something like), and up to one cup of Mozzerella cheese. a Little salt, a little pepper. I personally add a little ham, or smoked turkey, or my fav a little bacon and some green onion. Add a dash of garlic and it's really good. Bake at 425ish for 20-25 min until golden. you can use a pie pan, but for best results use a stoneware casserole dish. Oh and make sure you liberally spray with pam or something.

Original Post by stephaineasb: I can totally understand, BUT... you won't maintain once you go to "maintenence". Your body will think you are starving and lock down your food. You are loosing muscle and bone density, and of course fat, but I'm not kidding, you could actually trigger organ failure with that kind of diet. Don't be suprised when you have the same problem as someone who has an ED when they go into recovery. Just seriously consider it, ok? You are playing with a loaded gun. :/ |

Original Post by stephaineasb: Not to be a jerk but you are seriously under eating unless you're like 4 ft tall. You won't loose the weight you want like that, instead your bodies going to hoard it. Then when you eat something resembleing real food you are going to balloon. Being 10 calories under 1200 is no big seal, but 500? That nuts, and not very sustainable. |

I just keep it really simple. I mix one serving of Chocolate body fortress from walmart, then mix with a tall glass of 1%. I add a squirt of hershy's chocolate to mask that nasty sweetner flavor mix like crazy and suck it down. My only real complaint is that the stuff is kinda gritty but the syrup helps. |

Well, I've been heavy all my life but not this bad. I was always just stocky, but athletic. I went off to school, gained a lot of weight, graduated, sat at a computer all day, then I became a teacher. My students are all great so that's not the problem. The problem came when I became a skillsUSA advisor and we all went to an amusement park. I couldn't wait. That is until I figured out that I was JUST big enough that the belts wouldn't go around me. I then vowed that that would never happen again. I started Dieting at the endish of July. I'm down 20ish lbs so far, but I can already tell the difference. I had one setback because of a Holiday, but I'm good again and exersising regularly. I've even discovered I like Yoga. It's a little funny to watch as I imagine I look like a slightly graceful but ungainly duck doing it. :D My only problem is that my ankle is a little tweaky and starts hurting randomly so strenous exersise isn't always possible. I'm hoping to be down to my high school size or smaller by my 30th b-day. Doable I think as I still have a year and a half. |

"Quote removed due to violation of posting guidelines" See the funny thing is, you're giving the bad advice. You say "you don't like adding calories". Well I hate to burst your bubble, but for MANY people, THAT is the problem. Not everyone got fat from eating twinkies and chowing on pizza, beer, and chocolate. You also state you aren't advocating unhealthy eating and starvation, but frankly your posts scream it. I didn't see any name calling. All I see is a "20" year old acting like a 14 year old having a hissy becasue she can't have her way. I'm really starting to question your age, I have more mature KIDS in my classes that are willing to listen to solid advice. If you didn't want a reaction like this after what people told you before, you should have posted in your journal, not out to the entire community. You arn't going to get any sympathy with a combative attitude. I couldn't believe that adding calories would work either, but it does. I have had a lot of success with it actually. I was nervous at first, but I didn't have any problems. Matter of fact, you sound like one student I had that was obsessed with losing weight. She was around 5 ft and wouldn't eat anything. She looked terrible because her body was digesting itself, but at the same time she had a little pudge. Her answer was to eat even less, pop diet pills like candy and nearly died from it. I had another one, a tall strapping handsom fellow who was determined to fit into emo jeans. Hestopped eating and started passing out at work. He lost 30 lbs but then turned around and gained it back and then some when he was forced to eat. Now he is heavier then before and looks sick all the time. You many not be that severe, but it's not that different. Someone your size is going to probably burn food faster then you think, and all you are doing is hurting yourself. |

Ya know, there are alot of people on here trying to give you GOOD advice. If your going to get all snippy over it, don't ask for it. Go to a REGISTERED Nutritionist who has one of those little degree thingies. If you still refuse to listen to advice about living healthy that's your choice. None of us are shortening our life-spans, causing permanent organ damage, and suffering from the crankies from low blood sugar.
Keep that crap up and your going to be able to gain 5 lbs by just licking a postage stamp, the rest of us can have a steak dinner with veggies and a soda and not have to worry about it. |

Original Post by sageatty: Totally true. But you never know, being a good influence can have some of the funniest effects. Hence why I said earlier that I'd probably punch her in the nose for her "niceness". I got over the whole staring in my cart thing a long time ago. I only get embarrased when we buy junk food for my skrawny dad or for snacks at a club meeting for my band of teenage maniacs. (I'm a teacher) |

Mine is a peice of crap from target, but it helps me keep track of a downward trend. Of course now I have a wiifit and it says I'm like 5lbs heavier. $^&(it! So no, I trust the THING about as far as I can throw myself (not far). |

Honestly, I know you meant well, but if you did that to me, I would probably deck you. I'm short, and kinda heavy, but I am working on it. I had a bad problem of not eating enough and making my metabolism slooooow down. I wasn't doing it on purpose, I just wasn't hungry. Then my husband would say lets go to Taco bell. If your body is in constant starvation mode, tacos are satan.
I of course learned differently now that I'm on here, but then I couldn't figure out what was wrong. I did know I wasn't moving enough and I drank WAY too much soda. Sitting at a desk for 12-18 hours a day will do that to you, add caffine as your only life line and BAM you have a recipe for disaster. I changed jobs, started moving again, and dumped the soda. I miss my Mt Dew, but I want to get on a ride at six flags again. Good luck, just be nice, maybe once she's comfortable, tell her how much you love blah blah and how tasty it is in a recipe. tell her she should try it and give the recipe to her. influence her carefully and slowly. You might be able to get her eating better. If you really connect with her, tell her about a great and easy walking path, invite her. you never know. |

Yeah, sorta. Last night actually. I ordered the super veggie burrito at la parilla. I remembered to say no sour cream, but I forgot the cheese. It tasted like I was eating a lard vat. I'm not a vegan, but I have been cutting out cheese, i ate it anyhow but I felt kinda gross after. No matter how much I got off the top, there was still cheese sauce or something inside. ugh. I used to LOVE that burrito. BTW if you are a vegan, did you know that sometimes they use lard in their refried beans? Just a heads up. |

I live and work with a lot of devoted carnivores. I like meat, but I try not to eat to much. My husband finally got used to it, but everyone else was a pain. I know it's processed but the "ground beef" from Boca has fooled them time after time. It DOES have the right texture.
I've told them over and over that it was vegitarian "blah blah" and they didn't believe me. I swear by it.
