Health & Support Advice on how to let yourself eat Aug 28 2012

I know this is a taboo subject for some, but have you ever considered antidepressants? I was struggling with the same thing a while back but then my psychiatrist switched medications- it was really, really helpful. I credit my newfound freedom to a mixture of effective medication and my own determination to get better.

Health & Support Maintenance after Anorexia Recovery Jun 05 2012

Most doctors recommend continuing at a minimum of 2500 for at least a few months after weight restoration- just to make sure your body continues getting the nutrients it needs to repair itself.
I would suggest lowering your gaining amount slowly to make sure you don't initially lose any weight (which is a slippery slope). Maybe go down by about 200 this week (2800) and see how your body responds. If you continue to gain, you could decrease to 2500.
Take it slowly! You are still at the minimum BMI so you have some wiggle room in terms of gaining, you know? Also, being an active teen, your body still probably needs more calories than you'd think. Do you have someone monitoring your weight or do you do this yourself?

I drink Ensure Plus with each snack- they are 350 calories each. If you drink 3/day, it comes to over 1,000 calories. If you want an extra oomph, you can make them into a shake (blend with protein powder, peanut butter, and maybe some vanilla ice cream).

Health & Support Complete relapse...HELP!! (possible TW) May 03 2012

You do not need to be below a certain BMI to be considered for inpatient- they take into consideration the frequency of use of ED behaviors, your blood work, and EKG results. You are doing enough damage to your body at this point to be a definite candidate for inpatient treatment.

Good luck <3

It definitely looks like you could stand to gain a few! You are still a bit underweight and I promise you'll feel much better with an extra 5-10 pounds (:
In regards to a previous response on this thread: "skinny-fat" is not anything you should worry about. At 108 pounds it is IMPOSSIBLE to be "skinny fat". Typing that phrase makes me cringe, haha. It is so incredibly distorted.

Health & Support Christmas "binge"... :( what to do now? Dec 25 2011

You probably binged because you aren't eating enough in the first place! To maintain your absolutely GORGEOUS figure (seriously looking at your pics I'd kill for your bod), you need to be eating at least 1,800-2,000 on a daily basis. I know that recovery and body acceptance is difficult, but if you aren't eating enough, you are bound to binge and make yourself feel even WORSE! ):
Whatever you do, do not restrict today. I can promise it will lead to more binging and depression in the long run. I would recommend a normal day of about 1,800 calories because it will even out in the end.
Plus, it's the holidays. Everyone deserves to treat themselves on Christmas- don't dwell on it too much!

Bump?

I'm so worried. Does anyone have an answer?

When I completely intuitive eat it ends up being around 2600-2700

Eat intuitively, eat what your body needs (easier said than done though, right?). Don't over analyze it. It sounds like if your intake settles between 2600 and 3000, you're doing well and everything will even itself out. I would say to try it for a few weeks and see what happens.

Edited to add: At what weight did you get your period back? On second thought, reducing your calories to less than 3000 could have an affect on that.

Have you considered that maybe this is your natural weight?
Usually when people struggle with such excessive hunger when eating below maintenance it's because they're already AT a healthy weight and their body doesn't want to go any lower. From your photos you look thin already, girl! 5 pounds don't matter, I promise.

My advice is to TELL SOMEONE. Since you're posting in the YCC forum I assume you live with your parents, or if you're in college, with a roommate. If someone close to you knows about it they can help. Plus, it's incredibly difficult to purge when your parents know about it.

Hey everyoneee! I've gained 15-20 pounds so far in recovery and have switched to intuitive eating- consuming ~2500-3000 calories each day (I don't count). Trying to gain a few more pounds OR maintain, whatever my body chooses to do. Anyway, hope you are all having a great day!

B: Oats with a banana whipped in, topped with a generous amount of vanilla soy yogurt and crunchy peanut butter.
S: Two blow pops P:
L: Whole wheat wrap with hummus, avocado, and Tofurky. Carrots and an apple on the side.
S: White chocolate macadamia nut Clif bar.
D: Broccoli, cauliflower, and onions sauteed in EVOO (with ketchup of course), a Morningstar chick'n burger, crackers and mushrooms dipped in hummus.
S: (during Gossip Girl, haha) Cinnamon raisin granola with almond milk, a large apple, and a few gigantic spoonfuls of peanut butter!

Does anyone else find themselves eating a ton after dinner? I loooove snacking but often get really full before bed /:

Young Calorie Counters Size 0--Ever been or are you?? Size 0 only please. Oct 25 2010

I was a size 0 when I was severely underweight due to an ED. I can still fit into a few pairs that I suppose were vanity sized, but now I'm a healthier 2 or 4.
IT IS NOT WORTH IT. Because I'm not naturally this size and using unhealthy maintenance techniques, I was passing out all the time, could hardly walk, and hated everything about my body. Not to mention the hair loss and insane bruising on my legs.
Hope you reconsider your goal weight. Being a 0 won't make you happy.

Weight Gain Thoughts Inbetween Sep 06 2010

I'm not scared to eat to satiety- I ate far beyond that many times in the past few days! I don't think it's fair to say that's the reason for everyone because most people who are in recovery have this same feeling, even though they're eating enough.
