Health & Support water weight? Mar 15 2012

One thing could be that you weighed yourself in the evening.  I weigh about five pounds more at night than I do in the morning.  Also, if the food was higher calorie, it may also be higher salt, which could cause you to retain water.  Drink lots of water and weigh yourslef in the am, not the pm, you should get a different result.

I once made one with orange juice and vanilla yogurt.  It was amazing, tasted like a creamsicle.

You could add chia seeds or vanilla  protien powder to make it more filling.

I used to use tons of chemical sweeteners. I drank 4 diet pops a day as well as 4 coffees with sweetener and yogurt and jello with sweetener too.

I stopped because I was getting terrible gas and finally figured out that the sweeteners were causing it.  After I stopped, within a day I felt so amazing, the gas stopped right away and my brain felt clearer.  My sugar cravings also were cut in half.

Your bmi is quite low.  You do not have enough body fat to support another life, which is why your periods have stopped.  If this continues, you risk having infertility problems and having brittle bones (osteoperosis)

You need to up your calorie intake to get your period back and cut down on the running.  I understand that you enjoy it, but I would cut it in half, at least until your periods return

.  If your stomach feels full maybe eat small portions more often, (every 2-3 hours throughout the day) or try some meal replacement shakes, like Ensure.  Nuts and nut butters are calorie dense, or try full fat yogurts and cheeses.

It depends on the brand and calories.  I have some some ice cream that only has 100 calories per 1/2 cup serving. I think moderation is key.

Don't be sorry, I struggle with this too, you are not alone.  Your body needs other foods to keep it healthy, your brain needs fat to keep it healthy.  You will not get what your body needs by eating only vegetables and fruit.  You have my permission to eat something other than these foods.

Health & Support convincing myself i am fine? (TW) Feb 08 2012

I am struggling too.  Maybe a different nutritionist would help? I recently saw one who convinced me to up my calories by 200 a day to now 1500.  I have been able to maintain my low weight (110 at 5'8) but get used to eating a larger amount and letting go over some of the control and getting used to a different intake and routine.  It has also allowed me to stop binging, because I am not as starved as I was.  I had been trapped in a binge/starve cycle which left me feeling terribly ashamed and depressed most of the time.  My outlook is much brighter now.

When I first saw the nutritionist I thought I will not allow myslef to up my intake anymore, but I think in another week when I see her again, I may up my intake a few hundred more a day.

I hope you will give another nutritionist a try, you are worth it, and what you are doing to yourslef is a slow suicide.

Canned salmon or egg has lots of protien.  I use fat free miracle whip with mine. Truthfully, the filling is probably more benificial to you than the bread, you may be better to cut back on the bread than the filling.  Like an open faced sandwich for example.

I don't think you should deprive yourself, just make better choices.

I don't know what is available where you live, but here in Canada there is a Christie's sensible solutions line.  I love oreo's and the chocolate wafers taste like oreos without the center.  They are only 25 calories and are quite big.  Social tea cookies are only 20-30 calories a piece, and I have seen gingersnaps for 20 -30 calories too.

Health & Support having trouble eating Feb 03 2012

Thanks, I think this 3pm meal is causing me anxiety more than the other meals because it is new.  I have rituals that help me get through the other meals, but I havent found any yet to get through this one, since it is at a different time of day.

The nutritionist said if it is too hard to eat it as a new meal, that I could just add the calories to another meal, but I wanted to kind of go outside my comfort zone, and I am having trouble doing that right now.

It is also hard because nobody else in my family eats at that time, and it makes my ED brain think that I am bad for eating when others arent.

I like home- made potato wedges.  You cut the potatoes into wedges, leave the skin on, it's good for you).  Put in a ziplock bag with 1/2 a tbsp of miracle whip (20 calories) and a few shakes of seasoning salt.  Put on a cookie sheet you have sprayed with pam.  Bake at 400 for 25-30 minutes until crispy.  Depending on the size of the potato, it only comes to 120-200 calories a serving.

Potato pancakes are also filling and cheap.  1 grated potato will make about 2 pancakes.

I make a 35 calorie smoothie that is very filling due to all the fiber in the pumpkin.  It tastes like pumpkin pie.

1/2 cup pumpkin puree (35 calories)

4-6 ice cubes

2-3 packets sweetener

1/2 tsp cinnamon

dash of nutmeg

1/2 to 3/4 cup water (depending on how thick you would like it.

I read the article about diet soda and fat cells and I do not think it is true, at least not in my case.  I drink alot of diet pop and rely heavily on artificial sweetener.  I do not exercise and always eat more than 1200 calories a day yet have a bmi of 16.5. (not healthy I know, I am working on it)

I don't know if I am in a place to give good advice or not, as I am not recovered yet, but I can tell you what is helping me.  I am the same around high calorie foods like cookies and cakes, I binge and then have the horrible obsessive guilt feelings and then restrict for days to try to get rid of the extra calories that I consumed.  Then because I am starving, I binge again.

So I try to keep foods that triger me to binge away from the house, and instead eat healthier options that don't give me guilt and make me have the binge/restrict cycle.  Veggie dogs, almond milk lots of fruits (ones that dont scare me) and lots of vegetables and whole grains.  Lean chicken and fish too for protien.  I also eat lots of ryebread and lower calorie cookies on occasion like graham wafers and italian fingers.  I also try to keep my calories above a certain point so that I am not tempted to binge and to try to keep my body healthy.

As for feeling guity about not consuming baking especially made for you, perhaps in the future if you know someone might be making it especially for you it may be wise to ask them not to.  You wouldnt ask a diabetic to eat it, or someone with food allergies to eat something they were allergic to, it is similar for me, baked goods will trigger a binge.

Allergy Remedies
Is It Possible to Go Natural?
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
